On a related note, I was going to switch to the Time of Use (TOU) rate with Austin Energy. After talking to the woman who does customer service for the program, I decided not to do it. She basically said that the way it's structured, it penalizes people with electric cars. This is due to TOU rates not being properly bracketed; it's kind of hard to explain concisely. She encouraged me to go to a city council meeting and advocate to have the TOU rate plan changed. So, it probably doesn't make economic sense to have battery backup in Austin right now.
 
Treehouse still had an enormous markup on the Powerwall last time I stopped by. Couple that with the fact that SolarEdge doesn't seem to be able to deliver the upgrade kit (StorEdge) that was promised for existing customers makes it less appealing...
