"Buy Today" because CA Rebate will no longer work?

I was just in a Tesla store and was told that come next year, the CA rebate would no longer be valid... Also, today was the last day before 2016 that the factory could get new orders for Jan 1st.

Is this true about the CA rebate? I know it will be 'means tested' - ie they will look at your income, but we are not a huge salary (wife and I)

I was hoping to get the S70

Thoughts?

I wouldn't count on it if anything like Illinois... I ordered Dec 2014 thinking I would get the $4K Illinois rebate. Got delivery in late March, and the delivery specialist promised to send info on the rebate but never did after multiple calls/emails.. so I looked it up online and found out Illinois processes rebates twice a year and decided to save $ by cancelling all rebates, even for many of the people that got their car mid 2014 and had already submitted their forms before 2015 to be processed.

I think you're eligible unless you make a combined 500k/year.

Do you make over $250,000 a year or you and your spouse make over $500,000 a year? If that's true, you're not qualify for the rebate starting 2016.
On the other hand, if you make less than $35,310 a year, you are qualify for $4000 rebate, instead of $2500.

Good thing Tesla doesn't mislead you like a regular car dealership. 8-|

Really??? Come on... That was unnecessary and uncalled for. Tesla tends to assume, and for good reason, that it's buyers are reasonably well off and this income cap could impact them. Now, since none of us were there to hear what the employee actually said, we have nothing to really go on. I can safely say that throughout my almost 6 month dealings with my local gallery asking a million questions I never once was told anything that was a lie and it certainly wan't anything like a regular car dealership.

You are fine until they implement the changes sometime in 2016. But if you order before the 31st you can aslo claim the $1k referral credit (see mine below;) plus get the $2500 from the state and potentially the $7500 from the Feds. So ordering before the end of the year is advantageous if only for the extra $1k discount.

"Implementation of the income changes is anticipated late in the first quarter of 2016. The implementation date will be announced at least two weeks prior on the ARB and CSE websites and through a press release."

Tesla does _not_ assume that all customers are wealthy, because if they did they wouldn't ever have spoken about the fact that not all of their customers are wealthy.

I'm not talking about lies. I'm talking about misleading. Misleading can be true or false, deliberate or accidental. It's obviously a relevant matter, and a relevant amount of money, and the OP, despite going in knowing that it's mean-tested, has come away uncertain. Doesn't matter why it happened, it shouldn't have happened, because the rule is simple. I've experienced similar tax rule nonsense buying a car at a regular dealership.

If Tesla really wants to be different, they need to stop nonsense like this.

Really unfortunate, actually. There are many low income folks that will be wanting to take advantage of the $4000 rebate for the 16 MY Leaf and further delays will only serve to discourage EV adoption among this segment of the population. They've had plenty of time to implement the changes, they're just dragging their feet at this point.

No need for low income buyers to wait for this issue, just send them over to Replace Your Ride > Home
for all the current options including huge rebates for upgrading to a new or used EV
