Given the additional cost of $10k & $20k of the 230/300 mile versions of the Model S over the base model I imagine a lot of leases might be in the mix to make the vehicle more "affordable". When these leases are returned, will the battery be brought up to new specs or will the 300/230 mile batteries be de-rated by Tesla to 230/160 respectively.
Cost wise, I think it makes more sense to de-rate the battries and resell/lease the vechicles as 230/160 mile versions rather than replace like battery for like battery.
