Rated Range Comparison thread

This site may earn commission on affiliate links.
Anyone interested in tracking rated range over time? If you reply with some structured information (just like this thread: Lifetime Average Wh/mi) we might be able to see some trends.

Things we need:
  • Firmware Version
  • Battery Size
  • State/Province
  • Max daily range (90%) rated miles
  • Max range (100%) rates miles
  • Current Mileage
  • What Charge limit do you set your car to (on average)?
  • Estimate the number of miles you drive before charging (depth of charge)

Please let me know if we should add any other fields.

I'll start:

Version 5.6, 85, CA
90% = 218
100% = ?
Current Milesage = 11300 miles
Charge limit = 70%
Num of miles driven between charges: 45 miles

P85, 5.6

255 - 259 on 100% depending on when I get into the car vs charge completing..
225 - 232 on 90%

14500 miles

I charge to 90% 3-4 times per week and drive over 200 miles almost every day. I took delivery very late July 2013

I'd be curious to find out what a regular change on a new 60 is, with the 5.6 software.

At 7,700 miles, mine now shows 174 miles. It used to show 184 miles, but that was with a different software version and apparently the computation method has changed. So the 184 vs 174 comparison might be apples and oranges.

I've now done 4 range / full / 100% charges in just over 5 months of ownership. Two were this weekend for our first road trip. I have a 60, and the first 2 were on 4.5, the two most recent on 5.6. Here's the log of them:

Date End Time Mileage Rated Range
7/7/13 9:30am 1,807 208
9/30/13 7:50am 5,163 202
11/9/13 7:40 AM 7,239 201
11/10/13 8:38 AM 7,402 204

I noticed something odd on this morning's charge though. The dash display showed 201, but the charging screen on the touchscreen showed 204 -- see the attached pic. After driving a couple miles, the dash still showed 201, while the charging screen dropped to 203, then 202, then 201... Has anyone else seen this behavior? Wondering if its a bug in 5.6?

On yesterday's charge, both showed 101...

Very interesting! I've never seen a discprepancy between the dash and touchscreen. I'm also wondering if your increase from the second range charge in two days was the result of some rebalancing, as has been reported by islandbay with his/her 60.

Hi Tiggity,

I think what you are trying to do is track battery degradation over time?

Rather than adding data in this thread, I would recommend that you, along with everyone else, enters their data into the ongoing Model S survey being done by Plug in America on the Model S. You can also view and download everyone else's data (minus some personal info).

Hey Peter,

I forgot about this survey! I can easily merge Plug In's data with #'s from this thread, too.

I have 12,000 miles from delivery 12/22/12, and 90% range is only 213, which really concerns me. I am not an aggressive driver, averaging 320 w/mile from inception. Was getting 235 until version 4.5 a few months ago. Here in northern CA. a 15% degradation in 11 months and 12k miles does not seem right.

I did a range charge on Saturday and it was 259 miles. 8+ months, 13,500 miles. I make that to be 2%. Also I've never done a trickle charge to balance the pack. I'm not really concerned about what the standard charge might be because that seems to vary with firmware version.
