IMO the carbon footprint of Electric Vehicles simply depends on the grid. Once you have all electric vehicles you simply have to make cleaner the grid.
For instance in the USA fossil fuels used for transportation is 27%. If this data was valid also at Global Level you could get a good result by converting all transportation to electric.

Nice article. I had to add my 2 cents and my latest rant about gas stations to the comments. I've never seen any study or article that takes the gas stations energy use into their analysis. It has to be very high with all the pumps, lights, and refrigerators that are being used 24/7.
