The "star" icon accesses a menu for either a thumbs up or down. Is it a gold star, or a sheriff's badge?

Sorry brianman, that thread on the 1200 NA sigs was just too much... I'll be sure to give you a postive rating on the next helpful post I see from you.

Funny you use the word "trial" because with every reputation point, I feel judged.

Well there are different ways to set it up. Can be anonymous or not. Can disallow negative ratings, etc. I'll come back to it after I finish some other things. Judge not lest ye be judged.

How do I point to an avatar as a reason for a reputation point? Some of them I really like.

You can just say so in the comments, but it's always associated with a particular post.

Yes...the one with the most "thumbs ups" will receive an extra cupholder in their Model S (or X)...complementary of TMC!

Anyone can say what they want to you and you don't know who it is nor can you defend the comment nor thank someone for something nice.

is there a prize for the most, or hitting a certain amount of "points"? Is there a penalty for excessive snarkyness?

It's like an ebay rating only I'm not selling Pez dispensers.

So I can't give my own post a thumb (either way) but I can report it? How strange. "I find my post offensive!"
