Rated vs Ideal Remember you're using rating instead of ideal range at 100% State of Charge. Pic is my 2012 P85 with new (Oct 2022 build) replacement Tesla pack. Shows rated vs ideal. Pic represents 90 kWh pack corked to 85 kWh @90% SoC. I keep mine at rated.

15 MS 85D hv battery failure

@jack.l In my case, I paid $27k for my 2012 P85 in Oct 2022 from the original owner. I've since spent more than that for both new (not reman) pack and RDU, PTC heater and MCU2 upgrade. Given my current transportation needs and financial situation, keeping my #2446 on the road is a...

15 MS 85D hv battery failure

@jack.l $10k USD - That seems to be the current market rate for an 85 kWh used/reman/salvage replacement pack that gives the owner a rated range of around 240 miles. Just the pack. Any applicable labor, taxes, and warranty (explained below) are extra. $10k includes Tesla, 3rd party...

    RDU/LDU coolant bypass innovation

There are some options out there not requiring LDU removal. Here's one
  10. NV Ray

    RDU/LDU coolant bypass innovation

Tesla's U version does supply coolant to the gearbox in the same ways all pre U versions have - via the flyover tube/pipe and inverter.

    RDU/LDU coolant bypass innovation

@FireFighterHil @j.harris exemplary explanation of RDU/LDU cooling (pre Tesla U version seal manifold delete and pre 3rd party coolant delete) here by Professor Kelly of Weber State at the 32 min 46 sec mark
  12. NV Ray

    RDU/LDU coolant bypass innovation

On Tesla's U version, and many 3rd party coolant delete devices that keep the external tube (aka flyover tube/pipe), there is fresh coolant, not heat soaked from rotor going to the gear box via the external tube. Coolant delete bypasses the rotor entirely.

    RDU/LDU coolant bypass innovation

FYI Early MS LDU/RDU coolant leakage; current state of affairs
  14. NV Ray

    RDU/LDU coolant bypass innovation

Yes, Tesla's U version still supplies same amount of coolant to both the stator, gear box, and inverter.
  15. NV Ray

    RDU/LDU coolant bypass innovation

I understand what you're saying. Slight clarification with coolant bypass, the stator still gets cooling. The cooling of the rotor is what gets bypassed. If the coolant delete option keeps the flyover tube/pipe, then both the stator and gear box still get the same amount of coolant.

Firsthand experience with out-of-warranty battery replacement cost?

How much would you charge an owner if they wanted to keep their old pack? Do you have a business website?
  18. NV Ray

Firsthand experience with out-of-warranty battery replacement cost?

None. My 90% SoC rated miles was 244 when I first had the pack changed, and still 244 today. Pic is my old and new pack labels. And Superchargering speeds 130ish kW max, 50ish kW min. Much faster than original pack.
  19. NV Ray

Firsthand experience with out-of-warranty battery replacement cost?

In regards to the $25k issue, I've found that overseas quotes (especially Euros) would be close to the 25k number. Also, I've seen $25k estimates for pack replacement but included additional services other than the pack replacement.

The $19k--ish is before Tesla increased prices by $1000 last Fall. The current day new (not reman) Tesla 90/85 replacement pack will likely be $21k with labor and taxes. Do you has a Model S 85? The majority of your pack replacement options are addressed in this exemplary FAQs...

Firsthand experience with out-of-warranty battery replacement cost?

Current Tesla replacement costs for a 90/85 kWh are $14.5 base for reman and $18k base for new. Then add applicable labor, some suspension mod parts and tax. So about $16k total for reman and $21k for new. I paid for a new (not reman) Tesla replacement pack in Nov 2022. At that time both reman...

Early MS LDU/RDU coolant leakage; current state of affairs

If your speed sensor was dry, great news. After warranty is up you could do one of the 3rd party coolant bypasses and/or weep hole. Just to double check, you have single large rear drive unit or dual motor? If latter, I'd recommend no action as dual drive units seem to have a more reliable...

Early MS LDU/RDU coolant leakage; current state of affairs

Surest answer is with Tesla. Remember to stress "seal manifold delete" vs U version in case your year drive unit has not gone that far in the alphabet of revisions.

    2024.14.7 Software Update

2012 P85. Odd. Just did software update. Was 210 rated miles at 78% SoC before update. Now 217 rated miles at 80% SoC post update.

This whole coolant delete craze has become a hot (no pun intended) business opportunity.
  34. NV Ray

    RDU/LDU coolant bypass innovation

Remember, if you already have coolant leakage, especially if it's reached the inverter, that coolant leak issue will need to be addressed first. Implementing some type of coolant delect device will not address any current coolant leak issue.

    RDU/LDU coolant bypass innovation

I opted for a new Tesla U version LDU, I don't endorse this method in the video because it omits the flyover tube/pipe. But here answers your question.

    LDU failure

He calls it cooling rod in video. Tesla parts catalog calls it a pipe. Hope all is well.

    HV battery case sizes/forms

For the Model S/X, I believe there are two case sizes/forms - 60/40 without penthouse and 100/90/85/75 with penthouse. Correct? I there a new case size/form with the newer MS/Xs? To this day, still using 18650 cells?

    RDU/LDU coolant bypass innovation

Water jacket? Based on Professor Kelley's Weber Auto video only liquid in gear box is gear oil and coolant. Or by water jacket do you mean coolant?
  43. NV Ray

    RDU/LDU coolant bypass innovation

I'd be concerned that the cooling rod is removed. Possibly causing gear box air gap and/or lack of upper gear box cooling. I realize lower gear box is still cooled by coolant returning from inverter... Do you have data to alleviate my concern? Thx

P85D LDU failure leak past rotor coolant delete by QCC

Also, remember that if you currently have a coolant leak, simply slapping on an aftermarket coolant delete product will not solve any existing coolant leak issue. Any existing coolant leak will need to be mitigated. especially if coolant has reached the inverter.
