Goodyear Eagle F1 tire damage?

MY with ~11k miles and the front tires (only the front) and seem to have damage in the form of rubber chunks coming off. City/highway driving, fairly good roads, have never driven the car off-road, we don't have winter weather - is this a known issue or seem weird? The tread depth is ok, the issue is just the way they seem to be falling apart. I didn't have this on my M3 summer or winter tiles (when I did live in a place with extreme winter weather)

Google for "TIRE CHUNKING".
Most sources are blaming road surface condition, gravel roads, heat, rubber compound, aggressive driving style.
One source from Florida blames "shell aggregate in Florida asphalt". Maybe they use the same asphalt in Hawaii as well?

ooh interesting, thanks! I guess our roads are hot, but as far as I know there's no suspension issues, at least it doesn't feel like it - and I have never raced the thing 😅. I heard from someone else that it might be common over here with these tires though. I checked a friend's M3 with different tires and the same number of miles and he has none of this, I'll ask an MY owners here next time I see one 🤔

I see this often on track when students don't set their tire pressures and overheat their street tires. Never seen it from just daily driving though! Crazy
Do you mean that the tire pressures arent being lowered enough prior to going onto the track? I've been having chunking issues on the outer shoulder of my tires and I've been letting less air out of my tires because I was thinking that there's too much tire rolling over to the sidewall. I just have the stock camber though, on the M3P

Yeah, people are driving with street pressures on track. Are you having issues on street or on track? Have you marked the sidewalls if you're concerned about it rolling?

On the track! i lowered mine from 45 psi cold to 40 psi, I used to lower it more but was worried about the sidewall rolling causing the chunking/peeling - I mostly tried to look at how far the way I went down the side rather than marking it explicitly

40psi doesn't sound abnormal on track. I've run 200TW summer tires anywhere from 33-40 PSI. You may need some more camber or may need to change your driving style. Next time you're on track find an instructor in a Miata and they'll probably be able to help sort you out. No harm in marking the tire though!

I have this issue on just one of the wheels of my Lexus RX350, though I don't recollect the brand now, it's OEM. The rest of the 3 tires are fine. I attribute this to manufacturing issues which they anyway do not cover. When the Lexus guy asked me if I have been off-roading, I asked him if it's possible to off-road on just one tire. It likely a manufacturing defect.
