AutoPilot - do not let it see your spouse sweat (3 incidents in the past month)

I don't know about "typical", but after 3-4 incidents of phantom brakes and drunk driver-like lane change aborts, my wife has banned me from using AP while she is in the car. Does your wife also loathe cilantro? Maybe Tesla's AI doesn't like those people :-)

    What’s coming next in V11?

True. Another thing I really like with CP is how much more I can do with voice interaction than I'm able to do with native Tesla UI. It leads to less distracted driving for me. One more thing I like is the clarity of navigation, both visually and aurally.

    Full self driving capability

As a current owner of FSD+HW3.0 equipped Model 3, I find the current FSD features to be mostly unreliable or party tricks. If I were to do it again, I'd not rush to buy FSD due to possible price increases in future. I'd save my money until the day the actually available features are complete and...

    What’s coming next in V11?

I'm curious as to why your opinion is vastly different from mine. Could you please provide some examples of what makes CarPlay UX "positively caveman" and what makes the Tesla native UI not caveman? Thanks.

    No range loss!

I don't use TeslaFi, but here's my datapoint. Car has about 11K miles, made in Nov 2018. I typically charge to 80% and get rated range of 256 miles, which when extrapolated to 100% would be 320 miles. It has been that way for over a year. It dropped from 325-323 to 320 and has stuck around...

    No range loss!

The graph you included says Projected Range, not Rated Range. I don't know this for sure, but I don't think the rated range ever goes over 325.

    Expiring Free Supercharging Miles

I feel the same way as many of you here - not upset, not feeling entitled to the lost miles, etc. That said, if I were to run a customer loyalty program which I publicized as 5K miles for a referral (with the 6 month expiry buried in fine print), and the loot box showed only the miles left...

    Reason why no Apple Carplay

Thanks for sharing. Interesting study. The crux of it, however, is that using touch screen is more dangerous than voice based interaction. I hope Tesla continues to improve their voice based interaction. The recent voice enhancements for incoming text notifications, reading text, controlling...

Model 3 HW3 retrofit questions, wait time, issues

I set up my appointment for Palo Alto SC using the phone app around two weeks ago and it scheduled me for March 18th. They took a couple of days to retrofit and return the car today. Perhaps you can try scheduling yours at Palo Alto?

    Outdoor home charger doable? Cost?

Most, if not all, popular non-Tesla EVs in the market today charge only at 32A or less. That will probably change over time to higher current, like the current Teslas (except the lower range models) that go up to 48A. So you might want to look at 50A or higher capacity EVSEs like ChargePoint...

Phantom braking is the biggest issue with AutoPilot.

I wonder why Tesla relies on GPS and maps for speed limits rather than use its cameras for reading speed limit signs like Mobileye does with its systems.

Duh! That’s obvious user error ;)

Phantom braking is the biggest issue with AutoPilot.

Sorry, that was a bit cryptic. I was saying that Tesla allows us to turn off Navigate on Autopilot, but that doesn’t mean they accept failure. Tesla continues to say their AP/FSD related features are beta. So I think it would be be just fine to allow us to toggle the unstable features off...

Phantom braking is the biggest issue with AutoPilot.

It is not a slowdown, it is a sudden braking action. I’ve experienced it several times on the highway. It doesn’t consistently happen at the same place. So it isn’t a mapping issue. It happens when there isn’t a car ahead of me. So it isn’t a slowdown to maintain proper braking distance. I’m...

Why did my range go up after parking?

I haven’t seen this with my car before. I’m curious why it happened. This morning, I supercharged to 254 mile battery capacity. Drove home about 4 miles and the battery was at 250. So far so good. After about two hours, I get in the car to drive, and now the range says 256 miles. How did my...

:)It looks like the voice commands are being enhanced with the upcoming 20.40.50 software release. What’s coming next in V11?

Perhaps my point got lost. My point was that for years it has indeed been possible to have multiple windows on a screen with one window dedicated to Car Play. What has been made possible recently is the ability to have different aspect ratios for the Car Play window than just the default 4:3.

On-screen visualization of vehicle behind you

A month or two ago, when cars stopped dancing on my screen, I started noticing that the on-screen visualization stopped showing the car right behind me in my lane, and occasionally the cars behind me in the adjacent lanes. Why doesn't Mod3 user interface make reading alerts easier?

Absolutely agree! I just don't know if Tesla even thinks there is an issue to be addressed. Other than some messages from a few of us here, I don't see any serious outpouring of complaints from the Tesla owners at large. I hope Tesla is aware of the GUI challenges. In my opinion, the big screen...

Why doesn't Mod3 user interface make reading alerts easier?

I can understand that a project to completely revamp the GUI could be a major undertaking and could take a while. But the car already has a decent voice command interpretation framework. I'd imagine it is a lot less effort (than rewriting the whole GUI) to offer voice commands for every...

Why doesn't Mod3 user interface make reading alerts easier?

It wouldn't hurt to tweet Musk. I agree with you about font size. It surprises me that we don't see as many "complaints" about that on this forum or anywhere. Perhaps we are in the minority. One company that has done really well in understanding the challenges of car user interface is Apple...

Should I buy FSD before Nov 11, 2019, price hike? [Update: OP did not buy FSD]

At that interest rate, I wouldn’t spend $40K to $50K on a new car, let alone FSD. A reliable, recent model, used car (including g some EVs) can be bought for $10K-$15K.

    Dancing cars gone?

I don't think it will look odd to switch from showing the nearby cars to just our own car. They do that switch already with a smooth animated transition, for example when the car thinks you want to park. I hope the current display of nearby cars isn't an indication of how close they are to FSD...

    FSD increasing by $1K 11/1/19

Reading this thread, I don’t get the impression that people want something for free. What many (if not most) are saying is that, for them, FSD in its current state isn’t worth what Tesla wants for it, and are skeptical of Tesla’s FSD timeline.

    FSD increasing by $1K 11/1/19

    FSD increasing by $1K 11/1/19

Not always. Back in March, people who had neither EAP nor FSD were offered AP for $2K and FSD for $3K. To my knowledge, nobody in the no-EAP/no-FSD group cried for that price. Tesla did it on its own, which I presume was because it was Tesla's low hanging fruit for immediate revenue/profit...

Just to clarify, with a recent version of iOS, have you been able to receive incoming text notifications, and have the car read the message to you without CarPlay? I was under the impression that is not possible with iOS in the last couple of years.

    Dancing cars gone?

Other than the entertainment value of dancing cars, I'm curious if anyone has found the visualization of neighboring cars to be useful. (I mean while your car is stopped, not while moving). I think it is cool, but I haven't found it to be really useful. Am I missing some obvious benefit?

    Dancing cars gone?

Yes, that's roughly what I'm seeing also. In addition, while stopped, I no longer see the car right behind me in the same lane as me. Cars behind me in other lanes are showing up, but not the one right behind me. Is anyone else seeing that behavior?

Model 3 Long Range Rated Mileage at 310 or 325?

Per Tesla... LR AWD is 310 miles. LR RWD is 325 miles. (This model is not currently sold by Tesla). Many LR RWD folks never saw 325. It has been attributed to software/calibration issues. My Nov '18 made LR RWD with about 5500 miles on the odometer still shows 325 miles, give or take a few.

For anyone doubting buying FSD, go ahead and buy it now

Oh, I didn't know that. I have FSD. I thought anyone with AP was able to do the auto lane change upon manual initiation using the turn signal. I actually use that auto lane change feature (without NoAP) once in a while. I'm comfortable with it when there isn't too much traffic around me.
