    670hp Model 3? Possible?

interesting, clearly tesla is underrating them today.
  2. 1.21GW

    670hp Model 3? Possible?

Based on all this information, i think them changing the front motor from induction to PM may be even easier than suggested.
  3. 1.21GW

    670hp Model 3? Possible?

The EPA documents in the video show the power ratings of the motors 131kW front motor (176hp) 190 or 195kW rear motor (255-261hp) - I couldn't tell which one goes to performance model Total of 431-437hp

Model 3 2023 updates? Or what would you guys like to see?

MORE POWER #1 less interior road noise Better/adaptive suspension
  5. 1.21GW

    670hp Model 3? Possible?

Agreed, but the motors are drop in replacements. It means no real changes to the manufacturing line but much higher performance with the LR Model S motors.
  6. 1.21GW

    670hp Model 3? Possible?

Do you think Tesla would upgrade the performance version? Seems plausible and quite easy

NHRA / IHRA rules for Plaid/Plaid+

This is great news... but it will need to be revised again soon. If the roadster ever makes it out or if Dodge follows through on its "eMuscle car" I think 8 second range is where many of these performance electric vehicles will end up. There really isn't a tradeoff to having a higher power...

    Model Y P vs Rivian R1S

Guys... the Ford Raptor has a top speed of 107mph Also, Ford realized it needs to develop its own EVs if it wants to survive. The Rivian play was their "easy button" to not distract the main Ford team from their regular ICE work... Then they realized "whoops, we should probably do that too"...
  9. 1.21GW

    Model Y P vs Rivian R1S

Agreed. For my use case, I will tow maybe 2x per year at most so that won’t be a huge factor.

New Edmunds' Article. Mach-E GT vs MYP.

The review seemed fine to me... They highlighted some major reasons that the Tesla was better. Every writer has some artistic liberty as long as it is his perception and not blatantly false. MYP ride is kinda rough... really needs air suspension (this is my opinion) Some people don't like...

Mason mother of 5 dead in Clermont County crash (Model Y crash)

So the article states at the very end, tesla's have 1 fire for every 205 Million vehicle miles traveled. That statistic doesn't mean anything to the average person. So looking at the tesla report they referenced, it also states ICE vehicles have a fire every 19 Million vehicle miles traveled...

    Wall Charger Installation

100% agree.. Any certified electrician can do the work. It is not hard.
  13. 1.21GW

    Model Y P vs Rivian R1S

I think you made a great point, actual hardcore off roading is only for a very small section of the population. The "image" of hardcore off roading appeals to a much larger audience. Glad to hear your experience with the Model Y, i too love my model 3 and would not go back to ICE. With all...

    Model Y P vs Rivian R1S

In my original post, the price difference is only around $4k given the tax credit. I was surprised by it being so close
  15. 1.21GW

    Model Y P vs Rivian R1S

I think this thread has helped me figure out new ways to be conflicted... lol Best thing on my side is time. With Tesla continuing to raise prices and Rivian's unclear production timeline... I think this will need to be re-visited 6-12 months from now for better clarity. I miss the days...

    Model Y P vs Rivian R1S

As others have said... the R1S will be thirsty! Also with the 11kW on board charger it maxes out at 25 miles or range per hour vs my model 3 doing 45 with that same power. It would effectively be like driving 2 model 3s in terms of power usage. But if i was in the market for a range rover...

    Model Y P vs Rivian R1S

For me, the extra room isn’t that relevant, it’s nice to have but Y is sufficient and R1S is a bonus

    Model Y P vs Rivian R1S

yeah, that is a good point, i only put my reservation in a little while ago. I am towards the end of the line. With all the other companies coming out with EVs soon maybe there will be another interesting option. The downside I see from many of the legacy OEMs is that they limit the...

    Model Y P vs Rivian R1S

This is a good way of putting it. The price difference was a lot smaller than I thought because Rivian still gets the tax credit, that's why I even started considering the R1S. If congress changes the tax credit rules.. that would throw another wrench into the works. I have ruled out the CT...

    Model Y P vs Rivian R1S

The supercharger network is a huge factor, It may be one of the biggest deciding factors. I love the reliability and convenience of road tripping in my Model 3

    Model Y P vs Rivian R1S

Yeah, i have FSD Beta on my Model 3, not sure I'd spend the money on it again. However, It's great when it's not actively trying to murder me.

Can you use key card only long term?

yeah, no issues with that. I also agree purchasing the keyfob would be a great idea.

    Model Y P vs Rivian R1S

So I was planning to get a Model Y Performance for my wife, then I went down the rabbit hole of looking into Rivian R1S. Now I am conflicted.. The reviews of the R1T are very good so far Model Y Performance Smaller / easier to park / less storage runs 11's in the 1/4 More efficient than...

Purchasing a Model S Performance from CarMax

Have you considered the new Long range model S? it is nearly the same acceleration as a 2020 performance (slightly slower 0-60, but 1/4mile trap speed is much higher). the new Long range would be faster at highway speeds. Only issue would be timing.

    Exact benefit of 19" wheels

This is exactly why Tesla has a lot of engineers :) However, the simple answer is that most aftermarket wheels/tires will increase the road load in an effort to extract the best traction. The tire companies and automotive OEMs don't offer enough information for us to do the exact calculations...
  30. 1.21GW

    Exact benefit of 19" wheels

The difference between the wheels should be pretty similar for the LR version as well. I’m not sure of the wheel widths on the LR though. Are they narrower than the Plaid?
  31. 1.21GW

    Exact benefit of 19" wheels

This is a bit of a technical deep dive (warning) but if you are interested to know how much efficiency and power difference there is between 19" Tempest and 21" Arachnids, this will show it.

Technical deep dive: Plaid Torque curve

Thanks! i 100% agree, not trying to beg for subscribers, I'll probably never get to the level to make anything off of these videos so I'm not quitting my day job. I just figured this was the right audience that shares my interest in the technical details, I found it quite fun to discover...

Technical deep dive: Plaid Torque curve

I created a video that goes into depth about the Plaid torque curve and shows how it compares to the Dodge Demon and C8 Corvette
  35. 1.21GW

    Will the Plaid exceed 200mph?

Tire limits are certainly one of the limiting factors. I also think Aerodynamics may have a decent impact as well. It would be interesting to see what speed this car would be drag limited….
  36. 1.21GW

    Will the Plaid exceed 200mph?

I could see Elon doing something like this as a surprise. Seems like the Powertrain is capable but Aero, tires, etc… is still TBD

"Acceleration Boost" option, discussion as to which models and how much quicker

Winter Weather [question about model 3 ownership in cold climates]

I'm in Michigan. car works great. Get winter tires for improved "greatness" I don't change settings, lube anything, etc.. Just take it through a touchless carwash to clean off salt.

"Acceleration Boost" option, discussion as to which models and how much quicker

I have 19s and my best so far is 11.82 @117.92 I shared a video a while back on this. To me, i think there are more factors than just the wheels that cause that gap.
  42. 1.21GW

Finally hit the 1/4 mile with my 21P

It won’t help anything. If you are having some trouble accelerating, just make sure you turn off the obstacle aware acceleration setting, I have had that slow me up occasionally. It’s probably not your issue, but sharing just in case.
  43. 1.21GW

Finally hit the 1/4 mile with my 21P

the 60ft is really where the Performance version gets ahead of the LR + Boost models. I am running 1.91 60ft times, I would love some 1.7s The Plaid model S is in the 1.5x range, so I don’t expect you’ll see that without a new powertrain upgrade

Master Thread: Model 3s on the Track / drag strip- Videos, Discussion, Setup, Etc

Makes sense, also I did not go back to the first post in the thread as my post was merged into this one. Also, could I make a request? If we are going to do master threads, can we have a separation of "Track racing" and "drag racing" videos? i.e. two different master threads. They have...

    EZ Pass problems

I just throw mine on the dash when I’m going through the tolls, it has been fine for a number of years. I don’t use it that often though. I have never heard of mounting them on the outside of the car..
