Audi vs Jaguar vs Tesla - Globe and Mail

Agreed, although a major interior redesign is a huge project. I dont think people spending $100k plus will tolerate an implementation of the Model 3 interior layout. My concern is the insanity of getting the Model 3 rolled out without bankrupting the company has meant that every other project...

Audi vs Jaguar vs Tesla - Globe and Mail

It doesn’t read like an Audi press release any more than the typical automotive journalist “first look / first drive” review. These pieces tend to be a bit less critical. The range is very disappointing on the Audi, but the interior design and (I assume) build quality are light years ahead of...

    Selling my 2017 MS 100D

Free supercharging, but only for the original owner. I'm sure that can be fixed with a referral? It is a 2.5 vehicle, yes.

    Selling my 2017 MS 100D

Selling my 2017 MS 100D so thought I would see if anyone here is interested. My new vehicle is arriving later this month, so I either need to find a private buyer or will be trading in the vehicle. The deal will be done as a "courtesy trade" through the new dealer (which allows me to offset the...

    Solar canopy superchargers

The solar canopies would provide a tiny fraction of the energy required to run the superchargers. I'm guessing the cost of install is just not worth it. Over 80% of Canada's electricity comes from hydro, nuclear and non-hydro renewables, so there is minimal environmental benefit from it either.

Starting to regret FSD pre-purchase in a major way

The more I think about it, the more I think this concept of FSD "features" is far more dangerous than the risks of people ignoring the nags on EAP. Regardless of the name, Autopilot is pretty clearly understood by most users as what it is -- advanced cruise control that is not a substitute for...

Starting to regret FSD pre-purchase in a major way

True, but since FSD has been on the market, not a single buyer has received a single feature in return for their cash (i.e. there is no precedent for anyone getting some kind of truly privileged access to Tesla software features). So you have to assume that what Elon said in August is, unlike...

    V9 imminent?

I got it over LTE. Wifi signal is too weak behind our house for the car to connect reliably.

Starting to regret FSD pre-purchase in a major way

I was initially very down on Elon and Tesla for the way FSD was positioned. It was never marketed as funding its own development but rather as something that existed, but couldn't be activated because of regulatory issues. This was clearly untrue, misleading and probably illegal under various...

Seeking opinions: Upgrade now to FSD or wait?

I understand your point, I'm simply saying that you are all-but guaranteed not to get FSD since no Tesla sold today has the hardware or software to truly drive itself in the real world with the complexity of pedestrians and cyclists and cops doing hand traffic signals, etc., etc., no matter what...

Seeking opinions: Upgrade now to FSD or wait?

I don't think you'd be able to find a single expert in self-driving / autonomy who believes that any Tesla has the hardware for true self-driving. Tesla is so far ahead in terms of what they actually have: a complete range of electric cars that can be driven every day by anyone who has a...

Seeking opinions: Upgrade now to FSD or wait?

Personally I think it's reckless of Tesla to continue to allude to their progress in autonomy, when all the signs indicate that they aren't remotely a leader in this area. It encourages people to think of AP as more than advanced cruise control, and likely promotes a false sense of confidence in...

Seeking opinions: Upgrade now to FSD or wait?

I love my MS 100D, but I continue to find the discussions about FSD bizarre. It seems pretty obvious that it doesn't exist at all, and that there is no prospect of it existing for years, even leaving aside the regulatory issues. I know the cameras vs. LIDAR issue has been beaten to death, but it...

Vancouver Delivery; the dark and dirty

I've bought many new cars, ranging in price from a $20k VW to a $95k Volvo, and my almost new $120k Model S. All of the new vehicles were immaculately clean and well presented. Yes, dealers have cars sitting on lots or storage yards for weeks or months, but they clean and detail them prior to...

Vancouver Delivery; the dark and dirty

This kind of comment is why views on Tesla are so polarized. OP makes a completely reasonable statement about a poor delivery experience, and you jump on him. I really don't understand why so many are unable to comprehend that it's possible to love Tesla's cars but be critical of the many areas...

Ontario EV Rebates Cancelled July 11, 2018

Yes, it's sad that many people in Toronto still think RoFo was a good mayor. The reality of modern politics seems to be that angry loyalty to the cult of personality trumps facts and common sense. My hope is that Ontario isn't quite so hyper-partisan that we'll see DoFo's supporters blindly...

Ontario EV Rebates Cancelled July 11, 2018

I'm surprised that anyone is surprised at Ford's behaviour. This was how he acted as a city councillor, as the apologist for his brother and as a candidate for mayor. Everyone who's familiar with Deco and the business he's in has known for years that he was an incompetent and unethical blowhard...

Thinking of selling my Model X

It's hard to price Teslas accurately. I'm currently thinking of selling my Model S 100D (I love it but it is too big to make the turn comfortably into our new carport, so we bought a 2018 Leaf which we can park there, and which in turn gives me the excuse to shop for something fun). Most of the...

Ontario EV Rebates Cancelled July 11, 2018

People whose party of choice wins a parliamentary majority are usually happy with the system. They're unhappy if their party doesn't win. Witness the Federal Liberals backing away from their proportional representation / electoral reform campaign promises as soon as they were the beneficiaries...

Elon Tweets He's Considering Taking Tesla Private at $420

Not sure I buy the logic that it has been miserable for Musk to deal with running a public company. Firstly, the company has been able to raise over $4 billion in equity, at valuations only really possible because of the willingness of the public markets to buy into a really good story that was...

Elon Tweets He's Considering Taking Tesla Private at $420

It just seems so unlikely that it's true that there is a fully funded opportunity to take the company private at a $70 billion valuation. If any portion of his statement is untrue (and reading the blog post it seems that most of it is just conjecture), then tweeting it out of the blue and...

I want your Model S Dual Motor with AutoPilot in Next 3 Weeks!!

I'm very sadly thinking about selling my S 100D, but not sure if you are looking for something this new? It's a 2017 100D in pearl white with 19,900 km, AP2, PUP and the grey 19" wheels. We are in the middle of our landscaping plan for our house, and as stupid as we feel for not thinking about...

Writing off electricity instead of gas?

Also, to answer the OP's question, my Chargepoint app / home charger gives me my cost of electricity based on the current Toronto Hydro rates. I have it set up so it will only charge at off peak times, and it provides reporting on the costs. Obviously doesn't factor in delivery, debt recovery...

Writing off electricity instead of gas?

Kms is an abbreviation for kilometres. He is saying that the CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) allows $0.55 per kilometre driven up to 5,000 and $0.49 thereafter. These amounts are nothing to do with electricity costs. In Canada these amounts can be 100% expensed by the employer and received by the...

Those with RWD cars, how'd it handle the ice storm?

I drove a couple of RWD BMWs and a FWD MINI through many brutal winters when I lived in Calgary. I always had good winter tires and never had any kind of close call that I felt was caused by having only two driven wheels. Seems to be some mixing up of "traction" and "grip" in the thread, but...

    Financing Tesla vehicles in Canada

Just wondering if they quoted the same " average of the last three auction prices" story to you or not. In my case, Black Book was close to $18k and they offered me $10k.
  27. B

    Financing Tesla vehicles in Canada

Curious to hear more about the trade. I found it a frustrating process since Tesla initially said they simply take the average of the three most recent auction prices for similar vehicles. After getting a ridiculous low-ball offer (close to half of the lower end of private sales for similar...

Through Tesla, but looking at the paperwork it is actually RBC underwriting the deal.

    CAD exchange rate and Price

I had a similar situation. When I first talked to Tesla (in the Oakville store, since I happened to be in the area), they said the same thing: there was one Model S 75D for sale in all of Canada and no mention of any demo or loaner cars. It was actually a really embarrassing experience, since...

    CAD exchange rate and Price

There seem to be dozens of Model X and S cars with more than 2,000 kms but which have been used as service loaners or test drive cars. These cars make way more sense now that the $14k incentive is dead. I was planning on getting a loaner, but one that still qualified for the incentive. They...

Tesla (Model S & X) no longer eligible for Ontario rebate?

There is something to be said for respecting the office and not defiling it with appalling behaviour. For all of his talk about serving the people, RoFo barely showed up to work, and there wasn't a conflict of interest he could resist. RoFo was so bad that simply not being publicly intoxicated...

    Financing Tesla vehicles in Canada

I can see how they would do that with test drive cars, but it seems like it would be impossible with service loaners. Either way, the EVIP is dead now so it's a moot point.
  33. B

    Financing Tesla vehicles in Canada

It is a former service loaner. Taking a bit of a gamble, since I haven't seen it in person (it's in Montreal), but they seem to have tons of 100Ds that were not eligible for the incentive because mileage was over 2k. I was told the 1.49% verbally, and then when I received the loan email it said...

only 4 CPO teslas for sale for all of Canada?

I'm guessing he means that the payments are the payments, in that they are governed by the residual and the term. Any $150k+ car is going to have a high lease payment.
  35. B

Tesla (Model S & X) no longer eligible for Ontario rebate?

Fair enough, but people who would vote for RoFo as mayor would almost certainly be at least open to voting for DoFo as Premier. I wouldn't underestimate the extent to which the election will be about who can channel voter anger the most effectively. The Fords were / are good at that.
  36. B

Tesla (Model S & X) no longer eligible for Ontario rebate?

Even if DoFo just replicates his performance in the mayoral election, he'll probably pick up 10 seats in Toronto.
  37. B

    Financing Tesla vehicles in Canada

I just got 1.49%. They dropped the rate to offset the loss of the Ontario rebate. I think only on 100s and for max 72 months.

only 4 CPO teslas for sale for all of Canada?

While I was shopping around, my experience was that the inventory function was pretty broken / inaccurate. There seem to be tons of Model S and X options, but for a while I could only see one new Model S in all of Canada via the website. Massive adjustments on many S 100D models as well, but...

Tesla (Model S & X) no longer eligible for Ontario rebate?

I hesitate to jump in to the political debate being so new to this forum (hey, I haven't even taken delivery of my S 100D yet!), but... Ford will almost certainly win. He can win seats in areas of Toronto that have historically been impossible for the tories to win since the Mike Harris era...

Tesla (Model S & X) no longer eligible for Ontario rebate?

I was literally going to place my Model S 100D order on Friday when I got a call from Tesla telling me the bad news about the rebate. I realize anecdotes and data aren't the same thing, but it did change my thinking. Instead of going new, I went with a service loaner with 9,000 kms (which would...
