TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

Interesting, is that we all say we want to improve the environment, but it has to be on our terms. A PHEV was to improve the environment, not to be able to say you owned one. I am just as guilty. I can afford any Tesla. But I am driving my MB's until I can buy the $35k model for a commuter car...

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

Yet in the meantime you will continue to drive your two ICE vehicles even though a Volt, Bolt, Leaf or Prius are affordable on a budget but you are not willing to compromise (on range?) for the benefit of the environment. Welcome to the majority of car buying consumers. This is precisely why...

Good grief. Where did you read me saying that? Of course there is pent-up demand for Model 3. People have been waiting for 2.5 years for the car. So it was not just about an EV for you? It also had to check all of your boxes first. So you continued to drive an ICE long after a PHEV was...

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

Tesla sells cars under 50 miles as new "in the wrapper". Showroom models have almost zero miles. I was not talking about test drive or loaner cars with hundreds or thousands of miles that are also sold as "new" but discounted. According to reports on the threads here on TMC in Atlanta...

You mean these numbers updated through Q3? They are Tesla's own numbers since 4Q16. They are NOT my numbers. Check the Tesla production and delivery reports yourself. Then I tweak the numbers when the 10Qs are released. (Numbers always seem to change slightly). I got accused of lying and...

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

In CA you can lease a Bolt or Leaf for around $300 a month and still the cars are sitting. I just do not get it. That is a HELL of a bargain. People are buying uglier ICE cars every day. The mass market just does not get the EV necessity yet. Let's hope they wake up soon.

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

Have to disagree on Ford and GM. They have $billions in cash to weather the change in course. But the Japanese and Korean automakers could be in trouble. But again it all boils down to consumer demand. Unless we can light a fire under the mass market nothing is going to change very quickly.

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

I was just at the Tesla delivery center Tuesday. They have all three models available. Call your local showroom yourself. At the end of September you could buy the showroom floor Model 3s. You can find that on the threads here on TMC. You cannot ban someone for telling the truth. Good grief.

Okay wrong word. How about apples and oranges? Or skewed? You just can't compare the two sets of numbers was my obvious point.

Far forward looking? Tell that to Amazon and Google tonite. Tesla just had the best quarter in their history with a brighter future and look where the SP ended the day. I wish the markets were as smart as you make them out to be. ;)

Let's revisit that assumption in January-March. I am expecting Europe to be the sales driver in Q1 until the $35k Model 3 is available here. We will all learn a lot when the FITC is cut in half and how the lower price point can counteract the reduction. If the $35k unit does as well as I expect...

Agree. That is why I think Tesla will end up with a P/E ratio of 30-40.
  13. B

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

Revenue does not reflect market share. The measurement is number of units sold. When they report global total sales they talk about 95 million units. Not "x" $ in sales. The same applies to the U.S. at about 17 million estimated sales this year. No one compares revenues to determine market...

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

A 35-40 P/E ratio is pretty freaking high for a $50-60 billion tech/auto company. "As high as I see Tesla going" by the end of 3Q19. I did not say ever. And I used $12 where others were talking $8-10. I just plugged in $12 to show how we get to $420 SP everyone would like to see. For all we...

Most often the placements are free of charge from OEM's in exchange for screen time and are coordinated with promotional campaigns and website advertising. In some cases, directors and producers will use their own cars (and get paid for the use as a prop rental). There are also companies that...

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

Revenue is irrelevant. What matters is how much FCF is generated and net profits are realized. If increased revenues do not improve FCF or profits what is the point? With record Q3 revenues, if Tesla had not shown a profit and improved FCF the stock would have tanked. There is no doubt of that.
  17. B

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

Close but not quite. Tesla did not have to turn. They started in the BEV direction from day 1. All of the other OEM's together have over $500 billion invested in ICE factories and technologies, maybe more. They cannot scrap that overnight nor do they need to. Customers globally are not rushing...

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

Who cares about the other guys? I was asking what everyone thinks the P/E ratio should be for Tesla? If Tesla becomes perma-profitable then the market measurement becomes their P/E ratio. My point was I believe this may be what is driving some of the lower analyst valuations. I think they are...

Their current cars are costing 200,000 Yuan ($28,000). We have no clue what parts and service prices are. But you think they should pay a 27% premium to buy a Tesla? Between now and when the Model 3 is available to them there will be a whole other batch of competing models available. Time will...

Sales tax in CA is due at delivery if you intend to drive the car within the state. So a fly-in for delivery option may not be a very good idea. Some states will give you credit for sales tax paid in another state when you go to register the car in your home state. Some will charge you tax...

Karen, Even if Fremont ships BiW's to China to finish assembly, isn't there a parts tariff in place? I don't think Tesla could achieve much in savings if all of the major parts to complete the cars are shipped in from the U.S. It would make more sense to build another GA line in a tent at...

You are missing the bigger picture. The legacy OEM's answer to their shareholders. The legacy group are mostly all profitable. To do a major about face and go all EV would produce HUGE losses and cost many $billions. Tesla has racked up $11 billion in debt to get where they are but their...

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

Raise it to what? At your $8 that is a P/E ratio of 37.5 for $300 SP. That exceeds almost every company in the tech industry. Most auto OEMs are in the single digits. How high would you have them price TSLA since Musk was clear that growth from here forward will be internally financed?

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

If they are hiring drivers to drive company-owned cars they are not an "Uber-like" service. They are a taxi company that has to pay a minimum hourly wage. That is one of several advantages Uber and Lyft have over traditional taxi companies where drivers complain of making as low as $5 per hour...

As a former new car dealer, every OEM walks a fine line on repair costs for out of warranty cars. Why do you think separate repair shops do so well and can be found everywhere? Dealers are locked into higher technician and overhead costs driven by the OEM's requirements. They cannot compete. So...

At the end of last year Uber claimed to have 750k drivers in the U.S. and 2 million globally. With a parttime take rate of 10% of Tesla Model 3 owners, it could take a decade or more to be able to support a service. Tesla drivers are better off just signing up for Uber or Lyft as they do now...

One percent profit on parts/service? Not a chance. Assume you have not seen a parts bill for body shop repairs? This is where Tesla can start making serious money but hopefully balanced with what owners will find "reasonable" or they could kill resale value on out of warranty cars. That could...

Found an interesting pic in the Atlanta delivery thread of crates of Model 3 battery packs. Could Tesla be planning to switch out packs from inventory LR RWD cars for MR orders? Makes sense as a great way to reduce inventory while speeding up deliveries to meet the year-end FITC reduction. All...

Who buys at $270 and sells at $275-272? You have no idea what their entry point was or their motivation for selling. Get over it. If you are selling off 280k shares to move quickly into a new position where timing matters, you are not going to sit there and make 56 trades @ 5k each to avoid a...

You joking? The stock just rallied over 10% yesterday. If they bought under $260 they are banking a whopper of a profit. I left money on the table yesterday when I sold Nov options at $5.50 that have since gone over $6.00. So what? I bought at $1.52. Not everyone owns TSLA over $300.

Karen, That F-150 is not a heavy duty truck. HD starts with the F-250 on a heavy steel frame. Unit body construction does not work for HD applications due to the stress loads that can lead the bodies to warp and twist. HD applications are almost entire crew cab 4x4 configurations too in the...

Karen, I can appreciate your position. Cannot believe I am saying this (since your intelligence level on a wide variety of topics never ceases to amaze me) but I think you need to do more reading on options. Ex. You buy a share for $250. TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

I think several factors are in Tamberrino's SP number. 1) Increased number of shares. 2) Tesla achieving a real P/E ratio on low profit levels 3) Increased debt from Chinese factory and rolled-over debt causing increased interest expenses. Tesla cannot easily be compared with other companies...

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

You rolled call options into stocks? I just sold some Nov $350 calls for a 300% gain yesterday. Why would you actually buy shares? If they rise $100 you make 25% or so. Why are so many investors here limiting their gains and increasing their risks by owning shares? I just do not get the...

Today's and yesterday's SP movement seems almost entirely based on what people think happened in Q3, which ended nearly a month ago. And partly because people think Tesla moved up the ER date a week to rush good news. If you go back and look at 3Q16 you will see the ER was released on 10/26/16...

Given that price normally works in opposition to demand, if production of the maximum numbers of cars was the goal why raise the price of the MR? I thought the point of the MR was to decrease the number of cells needed per car until Panasonic can get all new lines humming allowing Fremont to...

But Tesla is not Walmart or a grocery store doing weekly markdowns. They also just dropped the LR $1,000. So is that indicating a reduction in orders/interest? Being too transparent in setting prices can have ramifications. The MR is only a week old and this tells us the pricing was initially...

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

But it can cause hesitation with buyers. "If we wait another week the LR could drop again". This weekly tweaking points to a confused pricing strategy. That is not the position of strength investors want to see.
