    Car charging vs solar panels

I did a test on Earth Day where I charged while the solar was cranking. My 36 panel solar wasn’t free, but it looks like it’ll be about a 6 year ROI.

Trying to trade in 2 cars for 1 MY, advice?

You could keep the cars you have now and pay them off rather than getting a Tesla. Or sell off the car without the negative equity and pay down the one with it. Everyone wants shiny new stuff, but financial needs should outweigh the wants.

The Modern Spare tire doesn't secure in the trunk, or does it?

Looks good and the trunk floor appears to be flush. As for the crease, does anyone think a dealership will notice that at trade in?

My 2024 Quicksilver Model Y is here

It’s a nice change from the former standard colors. If I were buying today I’d probably choose Quicksilver over the white I purchased, but I do like the white.

I regret my Model Y purchase because of seat comfort and seating position problems

6’4” and 320#, I put 260 miles on my Y yesterday. The bottom of the seat was fine, the bolsters felt narrow an hour into the trip. The car only has 1100 miles on it, so there is certainly some opportunity for break in on the bolster foams. I may take a rolling pin and see if I can accelerate...

Help me decide Model Y performance or Model 3 performance

I purchased end of March 24 during the fire sale. I haven’t owned a 3, but I’m very happy with the new YLR. I test drove both the YLR and YP. The YP was really fast, savagely fast. The YLR is still faster than the majority of the cars on the road, I can’t agree with @holmgang that it’s...

    Model Y or 3 Highland?

Same here. I didn’t want my elderly folks who may drive my car to be even more intimidated without traditional controls. I think one pedal drive will be welcome as my dad has issues finding the correct pedal due to neuropathy.

    Wall vs Mobile vs @#$%

I had a ChargePoint charger for my Lightning at my last house, I did the Tesla wall connector at the new house. The ChargePoint worked fine, another one I considered was the Grizzl-E as it was very well reviewed in 2022. The charge cord is lighter and easier to handle on the Tesla. My install...

Model Y HW4 with OEM Tow Hitch Installed

I haven’t tested mine yet. I have a couple trucks at the house to tow my boat, but I have a mobile service visit scheduled for 5/4 to get the rear door PPF installed that wasn’t on at delivery.
  12. B

Will these Teslas be replaced for free?

Or longer. I also had to drive 70 miles each way to get to the service location. I had a couple things fixed post delivery, they were easy to deal with and addressed my issues.

The Modern Spare tire doesn't secure in the trunk, or does it?

Are there child seat anchors on the rear seats that should be secure enough for the spare tire? I’m thinking I’ll eventually modify the rear floor for carrying the spare all the time.

Buying a used Tesla and I have concerns.

Assuming you qualify for the tax credits, you’re not that far off of what I paid for my new 2024 MYLR last month. Spend another $10K and get a new car with new warranty.
  15. B

    Well, that’s lovely…

I lucked in to a Modern Spare Y setup for $200 from someone on FB Marketplace who had just sold their Y and gone to a hybrid. The tire was less than three years old and had never been used. It came with all the tools, but may be an older generation as the jack is too long to fit inside the...

Order before March 1 or wait until end of Q1

Mainly the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Mustang Mach E, and VW ID4 were the direct competitors I might’ve been interested in. Ford doesn’t seem to be able to give the Mustangs away and they cost more than Y. Hyundai is offering $7500 rebates since they lost the tax credit. If the Hyundai Ioniq 5 got both...

Order before March 1 or wait until end of Q1

I really don’t like that I have to turn off FSD to look at my phone. My wife was laughing when I turned it off yesterday and then replied to the prompt for a voice note on why I’d deactivated FSD and my reply was “I had to deactivate FSD so I could text and drive”. I was actually looking down...

    Punctured tire/question

Having experienced complete failures (shredded tire) at highway speeds both front and rear, I found the rear blowout significantly easier to control. The loss of the front tire caused the vehicle to violently change direction and swerve into the other lane before I had a chance to react. The...

    Punctured tire/question

That shoulder area of the tire is not approved for repair, the tire should be replaced. At least make sure it’s mounted on the rear where a blowout is less severe.

Order before March 1 or wait until end of Q1

Speculation on my part largely due to the hype of a new product. If they can reduce costs and hold or increase MSRP then they make more profit. I cross shopped the competition in March before buying, nobody else comes close on the value proposition of the Y currently so in a normal market...

I’m guessing there will be a significant price increase with Juniper. Removing the incentives now and raising prices will get people used to the higher MSRP so it isn’t such a shock.

    F-150 Lightning Thoughts

My former 2022 Lightning was averaging 2.3 miles per kWh around town and 2.0 miles per kWh highway at 70 mph in the fall before it got cold. At 42 cents per kWh for home charging the truck was eating me out of house and home. Now I’m back in the EV game since I added a 200% need solar system...

Are you satisfied with the range you get?

I’ve had my MYLR with 19” Gemini wheels for a couple of weeks, today was the first trip beyond just in town. I left the house this morning with 97% and arrived home with 43% after 164 miles mostly highway at 65 mph or 70 mph. Seems like 164 miles on 54% is about what I should be getting. The...

I regret my Model Y purchase because of seat comfort and seating position problems

I’m 6’4”, 320#, 34” inseam. Today I spent 3+ hours in the 2024 MYLR. The seat was ok, not perfect but not offensive, no pain or discomfort at the end of the day. I could see wanting to add a pad or something on the bottom of the seat to boost me up off the side rails a little as the foam...

Will the free FSD trial convince you to purchase FSD?

I did a 164 mile round trip today, much of the highway portion using FSD. When I was a mile from home the car decided I wasn’t paying enough attention (I had a hand on the wheel and was looking at the road) and kicked off the FSD generating the message pictured below. I don’t think I was doing...
  28. B

Will the free FSD trial convince you to purchase FSD?

The free trial has multiple purposes. First off is to get people hooked like a proper dopeman and earn some quick cash. One video I watched suggested the FSD revenue would be an estimated $600 million annually if there is a 25% take rate putting 500K cars on the road with FSD, about a 10%...

2023 Model Y Puck size (austin build)

I made a note of the parcel shelf only folding in two places instead of three at delivery and asked Tesla to replace it with the three fold version. My service appointment is Monday, we’ll see if they replace it.

Is there a reason to get the Tesla wall connector over other level 2 home chargers?

In the case of my installation there is about 15’ of the ~57’ run tucked down in the insulation next to a joist, 4’ is through an insulated wall, 5’ is in the conduit from the ceiling to the charger, and the remainder of it is secured across the top of the joists above the insulation. I could...

Which Model Y AWD would you get? (Factory/Engine/Options/Etc)

I noticed a difference on the test drives, I think most of it can be attributed to the 21” wheels wrapped with rubber bands. The suspension is lower, so theoretically less travel to absorb the really hard hits without bottoming out. I lusted after the MYP, but realized I’d quickly spend...

    Bogus "Gas Savings"

Your large solar/power wall arrangement wasn’t free, so some kind of cost needs to be assigned to that power. My solar was $50K out of pocket, $34K after tax credits and incentives, the real cost works out to 16.5 cents per kWh. Grid power here is 37 cents per kWh so the investment is well...

Is there a reason to get the Tesla wall connector over other level 2 home chargers?

Thanks for pointing that out. I told him 60 amps and sent him the installation manual from Tesla. He is a licensed electrician who does complete homes and commercial work. From reading some other posts on charger installation it appears the 6/2 and 60 amp breaker is a common mistake or...

Is there a reason to get the Tesla wall connector over other level 2 home chargers?

I had a ChargePoint L2 charger at my old house from when I owned a Ford Lighting. It worked well, but the charger itself was $700 in September 2022. I had an electrician install a new 60 amp circuit for the Tesla Gen 3 charger I bought off the website when I got the car. He ran 6/2 romex on a...

If I were that concerned I’d bite the bullet and buy a new set of tires without foam. The Michelin Cross Climate seem very popular.

Rusty (yellowish) liquid coming from center of the both front wheels

I love it when there are no weights, or just .25-.5 oz on a rim. Unfortunately the tire manufacturers would probably call that 5-6 oz acceptable, but it needs to be match balanced or road forced. I had one of the 35” tires on my old Bronco come back with 15 ounces on it, the others were all...

Tax credit 2024 [The tax credit discussion thread]

In MA I paid tax on the price of the car before state and federal incentives. Think about it this way, in 2023 the incentives would’ve been collected after the fact and full sales tax on the transaction would’ve been collected at time of purchase.

First impression of FSD and how TSLA should promote it

After doing a demo in my new Y I would consider paying $5,000 now that transferred to subsequent cars, or $49 per month for as long as I own a Tesla product. It would incentivize me to stay in a Tesla product the next time around rather than shopping elsewhere. $12K is just too much, almost...

Tax credit 2024 [The tax credit discussion thread]

Getting the credit is contingent on having enough tax liability due to offset the full $7500. I think that only applies for 2023 purchases, not the 2024 point of sale credit. If your income is $71K then your tax liability is only $4756, so you could collect $4756 of the $7500. The government...
