I have a 2022 model 3 dual motor. At 8k I had tires rotated. Yesterday took car in to have tires rotated again at 17k do I need to have an alignment?

Correct. Front toe is the only alignment angle for which there's a deliberate adjustment feature. Adjustment of the other alignment angles is done by loosening suspension bolts and playing with manufacturing tolerances.

I have a 2022 model 3 dual motor. At 8k I had tires rotated. Yesterday took car in to have tires rotated again at 17k do I need to have an alignment?

Since we're discussing the model 3, not the model Y, let's reference the correct service procedure: Model 3 Service Manual | Four Wheel Alignment Check and Adjust Admittedly I did not read through the alignment adjustment procedure when I installed my coilovers since I don't have the equipment...

Deep scratch in front bumper / fender. Best approach to fix this?

There's a reason why it costs $2k just in labor alone; auto body repair technicians are skilled and can restore the car to it's original appearance. You can skip the labor costs and try to do the repair yourself, but unless you're skilled in auto body repair and have access to the right tools...

Do you hand wash or car wash your Tesla?

    1. hand wash 2. dry using electric leaf blower (faster than hand drying, prevents water spots) 3. apply XPEL ceramic boost

psi reading on my tires is not accurate, car says they are 37-38 psi, I connected my compressor to it and it says 33.5 psi

Possible reasons may include: - poor seal between tire and rim (eg due to damaged/defective bead, tire sidewall, or rim; over/underinflation) - leaky valve - poor valve steam seal - tire puncture

psi reading on my tires is not accurate, car says they are 37-38 psi, I connected my compressor to it and it says 33.5 psi

The "car" doesn't measure tire pressure, the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) senor in each wheel does. The UI on the screen simply reports the value that each sensor is measuring. If all four sensors are reading close to one another but significantly different than the gauge on the...

I have a 2022 model 3 dual motor. At 8k I had tires rotated. Yesterday took car in to have tires rotated again at 17k do I need to have an alignment?

The only alignment angle that can be adjusted in the stock suspension is toe, which is the direction that the front tires are pointing when the steering wheel is centered. This is done via an adjustment in the steering linkage. Camber and caster cannot be adjusted, nor should there be a need...

    Your M3H 'Stalkless' Driving Experience....

I'm guessing you've not driven a lot of roundabouts. Some roundabouts have two or more lanes. Quite common in Europe, and they're increasingly a thing here in the PNW too. The idea is that you take the right most lane if you're exiting at the next right, while you use the inner lane if going...

    Your M3H 'Stalkless' Driving Experience....

In full disclosure, I've yet to drive without turn signal stalks. I struggle though to image how it's easier to locate the correct turn signal button when the wheel is clocked as I'm preparing to exit a roundabout than it is to use a stalk. Even when changing lanes or making a turn I can simply...

Heckraiser said "no tangible benefit to anyone" - which is incorrect. No tangible benefit to the end user would be more accurate. I'm well aware this is all about cost cutting.

    Your M3H 'Stalkless' Driving Experience....

There's a tangible benefit for Tesla. I'm quite certain it costs less to install two tactile button on a steering wheel than a stalk.

    Your M3H 'Stalkless' Driving Experience....

My two biggest pet peeves regarding other drivers: those who drive too slow in the left lane (eg. doing 35 MPH in the left lane of a 45 MPH zone on a four lane hwy), and those who fail to use turn signals. I sincerely hope you're being facetious. There's already far too many poor drivers in...

Highland suspension on 2019 Model 3

What would be great to see is this: -average track time over multiple passes both on OEM and upgraded suspension, using the same car and driver for comparison. -subjective scoring on a 5 point scale from multiple reviewers in the following areas: ride comfort, perceived noise, handling, and feel...

Highland suspension on 2019 Model 3

"significantly more inexpensive." That's an awkwardly pedantic way of saying less expensive. I'd be interested in seeing a few of the top aftermarket suspension options for the M3, like MPP's comfort coilovers, bechmarked against the highland's OEM suspension. Reportedly the highland's...

New nitrogen filled tires riding very rough

I agree. Tesla likely chose touring tires for comfort, tread life, and noise. This reduced handling characteristics so they balanced the tires with stiffer dampers. The combination of high performance tires paired with the OEM dampers has resulted in a pretty rough ride.

New nitrogen filled tires riding very rough

Not entirely; different gasses have different coefficients of compressibility. Two tires filled with two different gasses to the same gage pressure could have measurably different damping characteristics. But since these tires were filled with nitrogen, and as MP3Mike pointed out air is mostly...

    MPP comfort coilovers problem

Surprised it's even possible to mount them on the wrong side (or upside down). Simply staggering one of the bolt holes would have prevented this. I guess their manufacturing controls don't require a poke yoke design.

    MPP comfort coilovers problem

I recognize that the FUCA can only translate a few mm in each direction, but this also likely means that it can rotate a few degrees about its axis of rotation too. The face of the wheel is approximately 16" from this center, which means just 1° of rotation will move the wheel forward/backward...

    MPP comfort coilovers problem

Curious if you ever figured out the cause of the forward bias? I have MPP coil overs too and my car's wheels look much more centered in the wheel well compared to yours. I second the opinion that this might be an installation issue. I chose not to drop the FUCAs using the alternate method that...

    2023 Model 3 suspension sucks

On smooth roads the OEM suspension isn't too bad, but on rough roads it really sucks. I hear NJ has some pretty rough roads. I improved ride quality by installing MPP comfort coilovers. Less jarring, but still sporty. They're roughly $1500 + install (I did it myself, so no install cost). A...

Service center was no help, looking for advice on a knocking sound coming from my back right side seat.

I had the same issue and fixed it by shoving acoustic foam into the gap between the sheet metal and fabric cover of the shelf behind the rear seat. I suspect adhering the fabric down could work too, but I prefer a solution that creates separation. To mitigate rattles, you either want full...

Solution: center column & seat rattles

Found and fixed another couple sources of rattling in my M3 in and around the center column. Hoping this will be of use to others. I noticed that the latch for the bin beneath the center armrest has some play and will tend to rattle. The fix is to apply a small piece of self-adhesive felt, cut...

Solved: Road Noise & Front Wind Noise

Some brands of mineral wool added asbestos to their product, though this is no longer the case. Mineral wool that does not contain asbestos does not cause lung cancer. It is however an irritant, so still best to take precautions and wear PPE when working with it. Note that ceramic wool is...

    Rear Passenger Door Rattle

Did you ever locate the source of this rattle? I have a transient rattle from the same region of the interior. My daughter sat in the rear to listen for it and said it was either in the door panel or the seat near the door latch. It sounds just like the rattle in your video.

    What tires are you running?

Seems about right. I'm averaging ~300 Wh/mi in mixed driving conditions. These tires seems to have slightly higher rolling resistance than the stock tires, but to be honest I didn't spend enough time on the stock tires to assess their impact on efficiency to make a fair comparison.

    What tires are you running?

Michelin CrossClimate 2 235 /40 R19 96V Been happy with them so far. A little noisy at speed, but they handle well and grip well in inclement weather which is important where I live.

Help me choose: M3P inventory vs. Highland?

I support this message. @Tezla1: if you really like the gen3 model and don't need the upgrades the performance model adds, then wait a year for Tesla to work out some of the bugs in the gen3 model first. Don't buy a first model year. If you really want a faster M3 with a better audio system...

Help me choose: M3P inventory vs. Highland?

Before my M3, I had a 2018 Audi SQ5 with a Bang and Olufsen system. The system in the LR/P comes very close to Audi's B&O system, whereas the SR's system sounds dull in comparison to my ears. Maybe it was just the lack of bass, but I felt the mid and treble were also lacking. I too wouldn't...

Help me choose: M3P inventory vs. Highland?

A 2023 M3P, hands down. AWD, MUCH faster, and a better audio system. If you think the ride on the M3P is too stiff, get MPP comfort coil-overs or downgrade the wheels to 18". Personally I think the gen 2 M3 looks better, save for the tail lights. The front of the gen 3 is a little too boring...

Help me choose: M3P inventory vs. Highland?

You can upgrade tires and suspension to suite whatever type of ride you want. However, a SR cannot be upgraded to go faster, or to improve traction in icy / snowy climates. The SR model's audio system also sucks IMO and would be difficult to upgrade to match that of the LR and P models. From my...
