    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Ouch. I'd heard of this and was fearing the worst when I got caught in a heavy downpour on the way to work yesterday (on 14.3), but was happy they worked perfectly. Unending dry wipes is the worst I've had in the last few weeks.

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

In a way, it does. In one of the AI Day talks (probably Andrej Karpathy), he mentions that a big improvement was feeding the NN temporal (time-based) training data, and also I believe inference data (several consecutive frames from the cameras, though I am not sure about this -- it could still...

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

There's a very nice recent attack using this: New Attack Against Self-Driving Car AI - Schneier on Security It's called GhostStripe1 and GhostStripe2 if you're looking for other articles on it. Paper: https://tanrui.github.io/pub/GhostStripe-MobiSys.pdf I'd say this kind of thing will always...

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

I've had this a couple of times too. The funniest was when they were all in a "forward only" lane, but all indicating right on the display :) Most of the time it's correct for me, with the occasional glitch. I always see the visualisation as a bit of fun.

    Evie EV charging networks

Yeah, got this as an email yesterday too. Mentioned the last place I charged on Evie (Lawson).

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Looking forward to this new toy :) What a shame I only just picked up 14.3, so I'll probably be waiting a couple more weeks.

    Evie EV charging networks

I agree, I'm in a similar situation, although I have free access to a 11kW AC charger nearby, sometimes I have to use a DCFC. If they split the survey into "road trip" vs "local", and included similar questions, that would've done the trick.

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

I heard people talking about the regen changing and kept an eye out for it (got 14.3 last week), but hadn't noticed it change. Perhaps I'm just not that observant? :) I like the change in the parked display, but miss the regen bar a bit (I know, but I liked it across the top). The new brake...

    Superchargers in Australia

Wouldn't that have been mentioned that in the earnings call a little while back?

    BP Pulse Network

That seems really good. My local (ACT) is 2x50, and one's CHAdeMO.

Car Network connectivity solutions 2G-3G-4G-5G - Australia

From what I can see, 5G modems are still considerably more expensive than 4G ones (retail), so that must be a big factor. On the other hand, 5G was supposed to be better for carriers : more low-bandwidth devices in the same area, better separation and QoS of IoT devices from other types of...

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

There have been a couple of times when the keycard has been really useful for me. When my phone needed to be repaired by Apple, I could still drive the car. And when doing outdoor activities where I can't bring the phone, I can put the phone in the boot with Bluetooth off, and just use the...

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Yep, I saw that too. Apparently live updates of this kind were part of the 4.30 app update. https://www.notateslaapp.com/news/1940/tesla-updates-its-app-making-it-more-intuitive-with-new-menu-and-reorganized-vehicle-and-app-settings They just say "under the hood changes" to the app, to enable...

    Supercharger - Yass, NSW

My friend sent me a screenshot of Antarctic pins from Plugshare the other day. We were having fun trying to guess which base had EVs :)

    Car seat cleaning

I've been using 303 products (Automotive Interior Cleaner mostly) on the seats, and it's been good. They have a leather and "leather" cleaner too, but I've not tried that yet. Think I got them from Autobarn.

    Tesla survey

I just received and answered the survey. Sorry, I also didn't record the questions, but generally they were: are you happy with the car overall are you happy with the exterior quality and design (which bits, why/why not) are you happy with the interior quality and design (ditto) are you happy...

    Supercharger - Yass, NSW

Interesting to see how popular this site is. Midday and a 5 minute wait already on 12 stalls, and half of those could be non-Tesla vehicles.

Growth of Superchargers vs Teslas/EVs in Australia

We were there yesterday (16 Dec) a bit after 2pm. The pie shop was about half full (we were there for the pies), and only 1 car charging. Goulburn a little bit later was about half full when we were charging there (stopped off to stretch our legs in the park).

Driver side headlight gets lower and lower

I'd always thought the same thing (or been told), that the drivers' side headlight was aimed lower. https://pcc.gov.au/uniform/Australian%20Light%20Vehicle%20Standards%20Rules%202015%20-%2022%20March%202019.pdf So not explicitly, but implicitly? And then: Basically, "lights must be mounted...

    Full Self Driving in Australia

Interesting thing, after all the talk of Dojo, is that Tesla have bought a big Nvidia cluster (10 000 H100s). Dojo and the H100 are quite different architectures, perhaps they're finding one's better for training one type of NN and the other for another (and they already had an A100 cluster...

That's us! Also, memories of going to the footy and people parking their cars on the hill, then flashing their lights and tooting horns every time there was a goal (ACTAFL).

    Jolt EV charging network

Haha I've yet to have the pleasure of using a Jolt charger, but I do remember the whole thing about them winning the bid and then getting quietly removed :)

I noticed for the first time Jolt advertising on buses around here (Canberra). As a new EV owner, they might've been doing it for a while and this was just the first time I noticed.

    Australian Model 3 Waiting Room

I originally didn't want the 18"s but then saw then in the showroom without covers, where I thought they looked great (also on a grey M3 -- same as what I have now). Also, I thought it would bug me if I got less efficient wheels (actually was a big reason I bought the M3 in the first place --...

    Australian Model 3 Waiting Room

Ah, I haven't seen the "km/h" thing in the app, only in the car when it's charging (and on the DCFC display, if it has one). In the app, the supercharger account part has total cost, location, number of kWh and price/kWh, and a link to the PDF invoice.

    Australian Model 3 Waiting Room

Ah interesting, this is the built-in wireless charging pads (below the screen)? That explains why my partner's phone displayed the "phone too hot, charging reduced" warning for a while.

    Australian Model 3 Waiting Room

That is the neatest cable roll-up I've ever seen, I think :D Mine twists at one end and I can never get it to roll up properly. Like the external thing for putting the handle into, that's very neat. Where's it from?

    Australian Model 3 Waiting Room

I've been thinking about getting a screen protector. Then again, I accidentally left the from-factory screen protector thing on for a week before I realised :) Is that "Adelaide Tesla no service" the roadside service, or just that he couldn't get the tyre repaired at their service centre on...

    Australian Model 3 Waiting Room

Haha. I had boxes for the two boot/frunk mats, wall charger, mobile charger, and roof racks all sitting in the living room for months!
  36. Z

    Australian Model 3 Waiting Room

Heh you reminded me, we had the wall charger in for months before we got the car. I was half thinking of getting my friend to come over and charge, just to test it out! Never did in the end, as I didn't want him hanging around all the time, charging his car :D
  37. Z

    Australian Model 3 Waiting Room

Ah yes, I forgot the compressor and the tyre puncture kit. Also, I ended up getting a type 2 charging cable (32A) as a backup. It did come in handy last weekend while we were away, but it's hard to say for sure if you'll need it. I see they're on clearance from Supercheap for $150 (which...

    Australian Model 3 Waiting Room

I know completely where you're at -- little bits of info keep you going while the waiting time crawls by :D Yeah, I think a lot of the difficulties with charging will get fixed over time, and also with more experience of what to do (and what not to forget i.e. RFID cards!) I had heard so much...

    Australian Model 3 Waiting Room

UMC (granny charger) if you haven't got that sorted out yet (and if you need one). I got boot and frunk mats because my hobby drops a lot of dirt and dust inside the car. From other vendors I got high intensity boot lights, and a shopping bag hook (really missed this from my previous car)...

    Australian Model 3 Waiting Room

Hehe, good question! I rewrote this a couple of times, so hopefully it doesn't come out as a jumble. Driving in the city is great. Mostly it's just like any other car, except: the acceleration, which gets better the more you use it nice and quiet inside the cabin, and no ICE noise good...

    Australian Model 3 Waiting Room

I'm a month into ownership, and already it's starting to be a dust bucket! Additionally, I got the ceramic coating (GTechniq) and I swear it's made it so slippery, when I'm sitting on the boot lip getting my MTB gear on or off, if I'm not careful I'll slide right off :) Then again, yesterday...

    Australian Model 3 Waiting Room

Haha, 47, that'll do it. At highway speeds the 42 psi feels nice and smooth. For sweepers (corners) it feels pinpoint accurate, and for 90 degree outside-apex-outside corners it's pretty good, but I am less daring with those compared to the old car (so far :) ). It's also brilliant for...

    ChargeFox EV charging Network

Reminds me of the old rumour that ATMs would give away free cash if their comms line was cut. Yes. Petrol stations would have similar problems if they lost power, wouldn't they? Couldn't run the pumps. Comms infrastructure is usually well protected (especially mobile towers seem quite good)...

    Australian Model 3 Waiting Room

Haha I know exactly what you mean. Took me at least a couple of days to stop closing the door by holding the window too, but fingerprints around the door handles still bug me :) I had something similar after driving for a while. The car felt a little fidgety. Tyre pressures were around...

I have to say, I'm winning every traffic light grand prix easily at the moment. Sometimes I don't even realise until I see all the cars in my rear mirrors. I'm still too tentative on the initial start though, because the old car needed to feed the power in gently at the beginning so as not to...
