Charging at home at 16 amps instead of 32

Was happening on both my Teslas so knew quickly the charger was the cause. I had cleaned both ports and the handle with alcohol and no improvement. I was ready to buy a new one but Tesla stepped up with a replacement.

Charging at home at 16 amps instead of 32

I believe in “Data is God”. I recently troubleshooted my 48amp charge getting cut in half after some period of time. Downloaded the app “Wall Monitor”, looked at all the streaming data and saw my charge handle temp hitting almost 150F after 20 mins and then cutting back. App also has numerous...

Long Term Battery Costs, Fears, and Serviceability

The chiller is active in mainly battery cooling modes where the battery is in its own coolant loop. The chiller is a refrigerant coolant heat exchanger. So Cold Refrigerant is routed through the chiller and pulls heat out of the battery coolant loop. Will add, It is also active is battery...

Long Term Battery Costs, Fears, and Serviceability

Yes the heat is dumped to ambient but check the arrow thickness. The heat is still cabin to refrigerant to coolant to air (through front radiator). It doesn’t stay in this mode for long as the decoupled battery loop heats up as well without the cooling (valve to chiller is closed) so system will...

Long Term Battery Costs, Fears, and Serviceability

Living in the desert in the summer, I can comment on this as I’ve watched thermal management temps closely. The AC takes the heat from the cabin and dumps it into the refrigerant which then dumps that heat into the coolant before dumped to outside air. This is the same coolant that circulates...

    Ran Over a Curb...

Here’s another view of brake line (w/ red colored mounts) behind the side skirt. This is with battery removed so yeah maybe 3-4 inches up? Just wondering why your side skirt was wet..

    Ran Over a Curb...

Agree but you will have to be the judge on that. Couldn’t tell how big your hit is from your pictures.

    Ran Over a Curb...

The dripping in the front center of your car is from AC drain. Normal. The dripping from the side skirts area doesn’t look normal unless you just drove through a puddle and water coming out. There are coolant lines and brake lines in that side skirts area. Cant tell how deep your hit is from...

Long Term Battery Costs, Fears, and Serviceability

Do you start charging as soon as you plug in? Or schedule charge/departure? What is your daily max charge set to? Finding it hard to understand you have not lost any range in 6 years. Trying to see if you do something unique in your charging/usage routine. What city?

Bad front upper shock mount (short close-up video)?

Searching forums for top hat advice. Found this one related and what you purchased too! Were the aftermarket front top hats from rockauto decent enough for helping with the strut shaft play you identified? Or maybe your response is yes I’ve tracked/autox the aftermarket top hats many times...

    Rear Damper Top Hat

You’re right. The rears are damper only with no upper mount included.

Keep bugging them on intermittent fault that you dont trust to drive a car around with the thing saying pull over immediately.

    Rear Damper Top Hat

Looking for top hats for all 4 corners on my MPP coilovers. Are you suggesting buying the 4 assemblies would get me the pieces I would want? See attached cart from rockauto. Look right? Seemed too good to be true all 4 shock assemblies for this price. The aftermarket/race ones are overpriced...

    More Price Cut(s)?

I hope. Would love to get into a 7 seater Model X for under 80K and get federal ev credit. Right now when you add 7 seats, it is only $1500 over the threshold. Have a 2022 MYP would trade out for.

Tesla launches 19’’ Gemini Dark Wheels for the model Y

Based off two things: 1. Looking closer at the Tesla.com order page rim, the outer perimeter of all Gemini wheels is exposed showing a darker color than the light geminis. The perimeter is part of the wheel and not the aero cover. 2. Media intel photos on dark Gemini wheels without any aero...

    Heat pump compressor short cycling

That undervoltage and then the heat pump cycling is interesting. At least you now have reason to get them to address that. Your numbers for heat pump performance seem fine but the reset/glitches does not sound normal, unless you are in some predefined heating/cooling zone by Tesla that requires...

I like to think the other way around. This issue is exactly why we look at service mode.

    Heat pump compressor short cycling

See 3 pics -Temperature Setpoint matching outside temperature (76F) around 800-900RPM. -Setpoint Max Cool (60F) Around 3800RPM. -Setpoint Max Heat (HI) Almost 7000RPM. Not once did the heat pump go to 0 RPM but definitely different valves open/close for different configurations. Are you...

Tesla launches 19’’ Gemini Dark Wheels for the model Y

The actual rims are dark too. Not just cover. You can expect to pay that much between powder coat and mount/balance so decent option without going to the $2000 20” option.

Do you have any scan my Tesla or other thing operating in line that could be messing CAN communications?

Also can you pull up this low voltage alert and see if it is old or constantly occurring. It should show set/trigger/reset conditions as well. Could be related or unrelated.

    Heat pump compressor short cycling

I just watched the video and definitely seems weird. I thought the cycling was like 30 sec on and 30 seconds off but I see the cycling is like momentary 0 RPM for barely a second then back on again. That doesn’t seem right (but I am not Tesla). If if needs less heat/cool you would think it can...

    Heat pump compressor short cycling

Hi again Sam T. What is your outside temperature and your setpoint temperature when this is occurring. I have stared many time at my heat pump screen in service mode and have never seen it cycle like that. The reason I am asking of your outside and setpoint temps is wondering if this cycling...

Reset SOC button in Service menu?

I have M3P and the <15% and >90% are there as well. It warned me to to ensure car was rested (not driven, charged or Climate On) for at least one hour within the range before it ran the routine. Thinking the end points are needed for the BMS to establish and fit/shape an updated OCV vs SOC curve.

Reset SOC button in Service menu?

Just wanted to let you know that I tried to push this again today and it did do something this time. This time the contactors self opened, short delay, and then self closed. It also changed my SoC from 10% (30 miles) to 11% (29 miles). My car had been sitting at 10% almost all week. I am going...

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

Thank you! Interesting that you charge immediately and then your car sits at 60% for overnight (half day?) and cycle is 60% to 50% back to 60%. Was wondering how your battery had handled lithium plating and SEI buildup through your procedures. Lot of literature on how some of these help maintain...

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

Thats awesome. And wasn’t it born (delivered) with no charge where you had to get trucked to a supercharger on your first day of ownership? Do you start to charge as soon as you get home for the day or do you set departure charge? If departure charge, How long does your car rest at the 60%...

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

We really need a case study with you. Your charging habits, DoD, temps, driving style, etc. Maybe you are invoking some kind of battery healing within your concept of operation and operating environment.

Some new data from research on Tesla model 3 cells

I find myself in that position as well where the biological factors don’t align with the battery schedule. Especially if there are multiple bladders or kids bladders in the vehicle. Changes the flow but end up taking advantage of any charging accordingly. Hence I haven’t seen the need for going...

Reset SOC button in Service menu?

Many of us have tried pushing it and couldn’t figure out which/where battery contactors to open to get the item to successful take action. Right now if you push it, you will get a failed message because your contactors are still closed. Since it is a BMS related, it needs a open circuit on the...

    2024.8.9

Great data point. I never thought of it like that but makes sense and can see that happening. I will have to try it and experience it. Thankfully there is a switch in the menus to be able to just go back to Autopilot and disable the FSD function.
  35. D

    2024.8.9

Yeah that would have been a nice drive back in FSD to try out. But I only do updates at my house and never when on the road somewhere else, unless I know there is a service center or I can manage being stuck somewhere a day or two. My nephew had a failed update once and had a tow back to...

    2024.8.9

Downloaded. Nothing really new for my M3P. Its not an FSD trial build and not complaining since I have a road trip in Mid May and hope my FSD trial slot lines up with that.

Did Tesla reduce the MYP EPA range again

Is there more to this answer? Officially and within the car guess-o-meter they don’t. But surely the batteries didn’t shrink (or did they?) nor did the drivetrain become more inefficient, so what should a 2022 MYP owner make of this 2024 MYP EPA range delta? Asked another way: If you had a...

    Rattling noise 24 model y

I would think it would either clip in or go under something. I think mine is a plastic panel and not carpet panel. I have a 2022 MYP.

    Rattling noise 24 model y

That carpet panel looks loose where the seat belt is running from? Maybe a clip or something rattling. For these I typically like to get a frequency generator and play it through the car Bluetooth loudly and see if I can find a frequency that makes the rattle happen and diagnose from there in...

    Side-scraped in a parking lot.

Get some estimates on your own. Not through the insurance. They can still raise your premium with a $0 claim. From there decide cost analysis of impact to car record carfax and insurance premium increase. Good thing is this is pretty easy to repair. Other car looks to be white as well.

    Constant VCFRONT_a59 error

I get the same 2 faults since I had the car. Looked around in forums and saw others with same faults and service center claim no issue with this nuisance fault since its only in service mode not customer facing. Have left it alone. Numerous road trips, and no issue.

Martian wheels scuffed/scratched during install at Discount Tire?

Gives me flashback to when I had this similar issue at a VW dealer with my new car that needed a tire balance for vibration. Nice gloss black rims and every rim and lugnut hole was chipped. The dealer investigated and found were not using a protected socket when supposed to. Got all brand new...

Feature Request - Eco-Mode Air Conditioning

Really good conversations going on here. Valid points on both. Wish I can contribute but I have the heat pump system and my knowledge and opinion is around the operation of that system type which the OP was inquiring about. For the PTC version, let’s be honest and transparent. Do you we think...

be careful with seat buckle extenders

Same situation here. Kids in boosters and they can’t buckle themselves and it is difficult finding original buckle buried in the seat from outside position by rear door with my ass crack likely already exposed. Anymore and will need soap… But haven’t had issues with the SBPros unbuckling but...

Feature Request - Eco-Mode Air Conditioning

    Snippiness 2.0

Sam T, what an inconsiderate and rude post. In a nice way I liked to explain but I regret now even responding and adding to the thread. Good luck with your quest towards “eco mode”. For everyday you drive your Tesla and don’t have your requested feature, think of this thread and what the...

Feature Request - Eco-Mode Air Conditioning

I would like to explain further since maybe your response here makes me believe you may not know what a heat pump is nor how heat transfer works. There is no “heater core” nor “air-con” in the traditional sense in a Tesla. A modern Tesla doesn’t have a seperate heater and a seperate air...
