Tasmanian Fast / Ultra Fast chargers

Great news! And the single charger output of 150-180kW (presumably shareable) is really useful. Midland Highway traffic (and most oher places IMHO) needs more than 50kW chargers, but 350kW units seem like expensive overkill to me.

    Single Phase Charging Options

To get 7kW from the UMC, you will need to put in a 5-pin 3-phase industrial socket & buy a new tail to fit the UMC. I have one (which cost ~$185) with only 1 of the 3 phase lines connected. The most you can get from the standard tails is ~3.5kW using the 15A tail. if you can afford it, I would...

Tasmanian Fast / Ultra Fast chargers

Ah yes, The UTAS tritium was tuned on recently, but at $0.80/kWh for a 50kW charger, you'd have to be desperate IMHO. I have used the AC chargers there in the past, but they weren't working the last time I tried. Not sure what amount of maintenance Exploren actually does on sites they "manage"...

Tasmanian Fast / Ultra Fast chargers

Thanks @Chuq. Happy to stand corrected :) Out of curiosity, what was the single one added in 2024Q2? Glebe Hill in Hobart? Yes, I do know about the *planned* installations and that EHT is working hard to get some of them in, particularly the expansions. However, Tullah seems to be delayed by...

    Ampol AmpCharge network

Yes, really great... if you live on the mainland :-} I cannot help but feel a little left out in that the number of new fast chargers available in Tasmania over the last 12 months seems to be approaching something like... zero.

How do you listen to music?

I use Apple Music (AM) all the time and it works well. But, you will need to log in to your AM account within the Tesla app (which I gather you have done). Tesla Premium Connectivity is required for it to work. Unlike Spotify, there is no basic account that comes with the car that can be used...

    Boombox in Aus?

I had it installed by Tesla. Very quick process. It's fine. I'm glad to have it. I think it should be required on all cars (not just an EV). A lot of ICE cars are really quiet at low speeds also. The spaceship reverse sound is very noticable, but the forward white noise sound is so quiet, you...

    Charge On Solar Australia

Yesterday, I DID turn off CoS under Schedule/Charge and it was no longer available. So, I could not turn it back on! However, I got the CoS install option showing again after logging out of the app, restarting the iPhone and logging in to the app again. It would be good if you could turn it off...

    Charge On Solar Australia

It came good for me after I logged out of the app, shut down the iPhone, restarted the phone and logged back into the app. Good explanation, with one exception. You do NOT require a Tesla Wall Connector. I don't have one and it works just fine. Nope! Only in the mainland parts of the NEM. Not...

    Charge On Solar Australia

I had to log out of the app, then completely restart my iPhone before the CoS option appeared. I had previously done the logout, then login dance, with no effect. My phone was already paired to my PW, but the process seemed to either do it again or it accepted the existing pairing.

    Charge On Solar Australia

Nope! I just started charging the car. No option appeared. Ah well, I guess it might happen when Tesla deign to bless my account.

    ChargeFox EV charging Network

Pretty normal from my experience. Electric Highway Tasmania uses some 80kW Kempower units (e.g. Oatlands). They share the power more intelligently between the CCS & Chademo plugs.

    Is Scheduled Departure Buggy?

Of course. I was completely wrong about this aspect. I became confused when reading the manual's description about what is and isn't available in conjunction with Scheduled Charging. Apologies for posting incorrect information.
  14. T

    Is Scheduled Departure Buggy?

Rather than the Scheduled Departure setting, I think it is more some limitation on the Off-Peak Charging. It seems to be just a case of not being able to complete the charge (fully) by 0600. See the note at the end of the manual Charging>Scheduled Charging & Scheduled departure: "Once charging...

Anyone Using 'Watch App For Tesla'?

Yeahnah……. Doesn't work for me, unfortunately. Apple Watch added OK as key (both from phone AWT app and from watch AWT app), all settings are as described, but no unlock without phone. Queensland EV Charging Infrastructure Scheme

As moa999 said, these are mainly for government use. Hopefully, they'll expand their thinking past that in the not-too-distant future. Good use of the extra coal royalties, though.

Anyone Using 'Watch App For Tesla'?

Yes AWT=Apple Watch for Tesla. I don't know about the automatic lock/unlock with AWT, since my phone does that. I can lock & unlock using the buttons, but (I think) not automatically like the phone key does.

Thanks, I hadn't seen it before, particularly when I was using the charger last (on 30 June) :)

    ChargeFox EV charging Network

Thanks (and apologies to Chuq) I hadn't seen that EHT branding before. I was referring to the signage on the chargers themselves. I can see from older photos on Plugshare that they used to have an RACT logo on them. Though what the significance of that was (aside from the motoring club...

    ChargeFox EV charging Network

Are you sure, Chuq? The only Chargefox-billing ultra-rapid charger I know of in Tassie is the one at Kings Meadows. It is Chargefox-branded, not EHT. More generally, I feel the RACT has been a dead loss at supporting EV's. No action at all, aside from a few articles on EVs in their magazine...

    Boombox in Aus?

Yes, I had read your earlier post, and had decided not to proceed with the installation. However actually hearing the noises made by the PWS on the YouTube video made in Sydney by Not in the Manual ( See: Tesla Model 3/Y Pedestrian Warning System & Boombox - YouTube ), I went ahead with it. Glad...

    Boombox in Aus?

Sorry to disillusion you, but the retrofit DOES have a forward noise. It is quite quiet (increasing slightly with speed up to ~20kph), and you cannot hear it from the inside, particularly if the windows are closed. The reversing (spaceship) noise is louder, i.e. you can hear it from inside...

Tesla app unable to wake car

A user on Whirlppol recently reported that Tesla service had acknowledged that "it’s a Telstra side issue impacting Tesla and that their engineers are working hard to get it sorted". https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/9p8n0q09?p=193#r3854

    Showroom - Hobart, Tas

Great that something is happening in Tassie, at last. If this centre is to be used for servcing (as well as sales & deliveries), I hope those of us in the more far-flung outposts of empire will not lose access to the wonderful mobile service provided by Will. I'd hate to have to drive 700km just...

Extending the reach of a 10A home charger

My apologies to everyone here. You are correct. I thought it was national, but NSW (at least) does not seem to allow it (without training). I wasn't attempting to do that. The cord itself is rated at 15A, but the original plugs were 10A. With hindsight, I agree. If I could remove my incorrect...

Extending the reach of a 10A home charger

Not sure why you might think it's a no-no. It's perfectly legal for a non-electrician to add plugs and sockets to an extension cord in Australia. It did this with a 15A rated 10m cable which is sold with 10A plug and socket. Arlec 1.5mm2 10A 3 core Extra Heavy Duty Extension Lead 10m (There is...

    V2L modelS

I thought Tesla's charging circuitry used diodes, rather than bi-directional components which might allow the DC to flow out as well as in to the battery. At least, from other posts I've seen (on TMC, I think), that seems to be the case with the later models 3 & Y. But, I have no idea on the S/X...

Big announcement on EVs & emissions standards coming from federal government this Wednesday

Except that they've been "working" on this since just after they were elected. So, after 10-11 months (with supposedly extensive consultation with industry already, i.e. Toyota & FCAI), they are now delaying for another 8 months! And providing zero indication how it will compare with European or...

    Wall connector amps question

The car & app do allow you to dial down the amps by tapping on the left side of the bar showing the amp rate. I've used that to control the charge rate at a motel with limited wiring which would not support 32A.

    Wheels and Tyres

If you don't wish to muck about with self repairs, then Tesla roadside assist is your first option. If they cannot get to you in a reasonable time, then in Noosa Heads you should be able to get towing with RACQ reasonably easily. I've have put together all the kit I'd require to fix a...

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

I had my first dry-wiping episode on a drive recently (2022.44.2 - pre-Christmas update). Beautifully fine day, but at certain sun angles the wipers would fire up, even though the windscreen was generally clean. I found that on TACC or AP, there was no way to turn them off. That is a real...

Tasmanian Fast / Ultra Fast chargers

@Chuq Do you know when the Oatlands site will be available? It isn't shown in Chargefox yet and not listed in EHT's "Coming Soon" page (even though I understand that is who is responsible for its installation).

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

I had this happen on my 2022 RWD after the 2022.4.1 update. The passenger side windows were fine. The driver side windows would go down OK. The rear window lost its automatic operation and would only go up if you held the button. The driver's window, however, would go up if you held the button...

    Newbie autopilot question

No, you need FSD (or EAP?) for red lights. I always turn AP (or TACC) off when approaching roundabouts, otherwise there is too little control on your speed. But then (IMHO) you shouldn't really be using AP in relatively complicated traffic situations like intersections anyway.

    Showroom - Hobart, Tas

That's great for those of us in Tassie. I'm eagerly awaiting more news as it comes. At least, you'll be able to see (maybe even test drive) the cars BEFORE ordering. Even a long drive from the North West would be worth it, compared to flying to Melbourne! And yes, Will does a fantastic job for...

Chargefox network bought out by motoring clubs

Good to know, although your use of the word "still" implies that it is some form of legacy deal that may not apply in the more newly serviced states (like TAS & WA it seems). Your point about ownership vs a billing service is well taken. This post gives me some hope that the RACT (& maybe EHT)...

Chargefox network bought out by motoring clubs

The discount for motoring organisations (20%) is only available on the ultra-rapid (350kW) chargers, not on the smaller ones. That reduces the cost from $0.60/kWh to $0.48. It would be great if that changed with the takeover. At present, there is only one of these chargers in Tasmania at Kings...

Tesla no longer including mobile charger bundle?

I get that the UMC may not be so useful in the US, with only 110V electricity. Different story here. They might be 'only' $400 there, which is about AUD 540. Even with the Australia Tax(GST), they should only be ~$600. But, in Oz, Tesla charge $860. That's rather excessive, particularly given...

I'm in a similar boat to you. I live in regional Tasmania, although I now have a final invoice (in the order page of my account) which shows the allocated VIN.
