Network not working (MY LR 2023)

I had the same issue. No navigation. I stopped by the Tesla Service in Torrance, CA as it was a quarter mile from another stop I was making. They told me it was a satellite issue and implied it was GPS. They further stated it was intermittent and slow.

Does anyone have any knowledge of a device called a SmartSwitch?

No, I didn't get the Simple Switch. I passed inspection with just the DCC-9. Whether I should have to further cut the maximum potential draw on my 100 amp main circuit is another question. I am going to see if the main breaker ever flips and what we are using at the time before I make a decision.

Do I have to buy and carry extra charger in the car for long trips?

I wish this was true. I am sure it is largely true for driving on the interstates between metropolitan areas, however, this still isn't true for rural areas or trips into the National Parks in the west. In National parks and surrounding areas, the charging infrastructure is more likely to be...

Do I have to buy and carry extra charger in the car for long trips?

I have a wall charger at home and carry the UMC with the standard 120/15 adapter and an extension cord in our MY. Its come in handy at hotels that have destination chargers but they aren't ever available due to other Tesla owners that treat them as "theirs". It also works at friends homes...

    Siemens new home-charging solution

I don't see how this would work without having some device, far beyond a dongle, that is capable of monitoring the current flowing through the main.

    Siemens new home-charging solution

I am one of those people. I live in a 40 yr old townhome with 100amp service at the main which is in a HOA owned utility closet. The conduit leading to our unit's panel is buried under concrete and too small to allow new wiring to be pulled through it. The HOA's electrician who had previously...

Why did Tesla remove option to disable regenerative braking?

I agree with you to a limited extent. I don't think that Tesla should be allowed to take away features that were present in your car when you bought it (e.g radar). On the other hand, I can see you being frozen at the last version of software that supports that hardware and having to pay for...

Tesla Model Y Glass Roof Sunshade

I can echo this about the Top fit shade that I bought on Amazon. Excellent fit and the see-thru aspect is great when traveling.

Does anyone have any knowledge of a device called a SmartSwitch?

You are probably correct and I am hardly a subject matter expert. My concern is making sure that, we are safe and have the ability to pass inspection. If you have experience with the DCC product line, I would love to discuss it with you off-line. The reason, I am considering a SimpleSwitch as...

Does anyone have any knowledge of a device called a SmartSwitch?

Thanks again for your suggestion. It is my understanding that using the DCC-9 allows me to ignore the TWC when doing a service load calculation. Per the NEC load calculation pdf I am using for Los Angeles, we are at 94 amps with the AC and heat pump water heater and without the TWC. I assume...

Does anyone have any knowledge of a device called a SmartSwitch?

Thank you for the reply. Our current panel is now full and over 40 years old. Our general contractor says we need to replace it, stating we need more dedicated breakers for the AC and other major appliances. He also wants us to have arc fault breakers as well. I have no problem doing the...

Does anyone have any knowledge of a device called a SmartSwitch?

Thank you for the suggestion. My, perhaps faulty, understanding is that the DCC-9 with a 50amp breaker for the TWC, is the recommended solution with a 100amp service. FWIW, I have never experienced a tripped breaker on either the main panel in the HOA's utility closet or on the 60amp breaker...

Does anyone have any knowledge of a device called a SmartSwitch?

Thank you. Their DCC9 is very similar to one of the Smart Switch options. I will need to go through their solutions in more detail, but definitely a possible fit. It would be nice to present the general contractor and his electrician with a series of options that all comply with code. It...

Does anyone have any knowledge of a device called a SmartSwitch?

The Neocharge works in a similar manner but with plugs. I believe that all of the major 240 items we have or are considering, need to be hard wired via conduit. I don't know that it's acceptable to have a break where these lines exit to a plug. If I had an electric dryer in the garage and was...

Does anyone have any knowledge of a device called a SmartSwitch?

We are remodeling our townhome. It was built in 1981 with 100amp service at the meter which is in a HOA utility closet. The conduit from the closet is 1.5" and buried in concrete. The general contractor says that upgrading our electrical service from 100amp to 150 or 200, would be...

Don't get in an accident in your Tesla unless you like waiting for repairs

I have reported this before, but my daughter's 2021 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid was in the shop for over 6 months with most of the time spent waiting for parts. This includes, at the end, Hyundai sending a damaged replacement part that was supposed to be a brand new part, 3 separate times. Each time...

    Tesla Owners' Everyday Navigation Use

I can't speak, the UK experience, but I have my MY set to reroute if it saves more than 2 minutes. Earlier this month, we were on a road trip and the freeway was closed in all lanes due to an accident with a fatality. The Tesla navigation system, matched Google's (or whatever my SIL was using...

Another example of the world's worst customer service

My experience with having AAA is that it's a bunch of separate insurance companies that masquerade as a single entity. Model Y Repair Experience (Tesla Insurance)

It's not just Tesla, my daughter purchased a 2021 Hyundai Sonatas Hybrid in September. She had the car a few days less than 3 months when a driver in a MB made a u-turn from the right lane in front of her, claimed he didn't see her. The car has been in the shop for over 4 months and they are...

This will stir things up if approved - California's Proposal to Ban New Gas Vehicles

Is Watt Ave part of the state highway system or a local road? If the latter wouldn't having Cal-Trans fix it be an example of a subsidy to the local residents?

This will stir things up if approved - California's Proposal to Ban New Gas Vehicles

I agree with most of this, but I don't think the mandate should be revised. Imagine the costs to protect areas like the bay area (with all of its reclaimed land) against sea level rise (even the modest 1.6 ft of rise forecasted for 2050). Ditto San Diego and the Long Beach/Seal Beach areas.

This will stir things up if approved - California's Proposal to Ban New Gas Vehicles

You may be surprised but I do think that a substantial portion of the surplus (40 to 50 percent beyond the legal obligations to pay this down) should be used for paying off the states bonded debt and any state underfunded pension obligations. I am not sure that the state should "bail out" local...

This will stir things up if approved - California's Proposal to Ban New Gas Vehicles

I have been hearing all of this crap about rich people packing up their bags and leaving California for years now from conservatives (most of whom are not rich themselves) and outside of a few examples like Musk, it just isn't' happening. In point of fact the Budget Surplus is getting extremely...

This will stir things up if approved - California's Proposal to Ban New Gas Vehicles

Your assumption is that all of those high income people disagree with the policies in the state and are going to pack up their bags and leave in mass and that no one will come in to replace them at similar income levels. I find that highly unlikely. However, AMPd's post was not about tax...

This will stir things up if approved - California's Proposal to Ban New Gas Vehicles

Why? Do you really think the taxes paid by one individual are material to the total revenues of California? Even if you are in the top half of 1 percent, there are hundreds of thousands in that elite category. So we won't miss your tax dollars

Tesla Model Y Standard Range AWD to be priced at $59,990 USD

My youngest daughter borrowed my 2005 Prius for her first post high school road trip a decade ago. She got a ticket for doing 100 on 5 just north of the 99/5 split. Not a cheap ticket.

Tesla Model Y Standard Range AWD to be priced at $59,990 USD

You need to stop supplying false information about SCE's electric rates. The non-peak rate available with TOU-D Prime is $0.22 per KWH. To the best of my knowledge, no one has posted that a Tesla can be cost justified by the difference in fuel and maintenance costs alone when compared to one...

I am no This doesn't make sense. Assuming $4.per gallon that is approximately $8 per day for gas at 45-50 mpg. I average less than 250wh mile so 100 miles would be no more than 25kwh of power, which at .22 per Kwh would be $5.50. FWIW my wile drives a Prius and her cost per mile just for...

Best method to "gift" TSLA for newborn?

I think we are in agreement. I also funded my 2 daughter's college education via 529's (and the original educational IRA program). I understand the OP's challenge wanting to own a single or set of specific stocks and I agree with you that it can be done with a Roth IRA. However, I also agree that it's not smart money management to use a Roth to accomplish this. IMO, a financial advisor who went along with this would be...

Best method to "gift" TSLA for newborn?

Why in the world would you want to do this as opposed to a 529 (outside of the ability to own stock)? There are so many downsides, the first of which being you are limited to a single $6000 per year contribution (plus catchup) that would need to somehow divey among your children or...

That used to be the case and some quick research showed that it was the case for 2021. I did tax harvesting for my kids when I set up their gift accounts back in the 90s. Garage Door Opener?

If you have an older garage door opener that uses a static code or gates that use static codes (which is typical for gates with a large number of users), then all you need is a working clicker for each code. Rotating code opener's typically require access to the learn button on the opener...

Tailwind maybe a good solution for a single location where you own or control the opener (I don't know but will take your word for it). However, based upon the little research, that I have done, it doesn't seem to work for multiple locations like SilverString stated he used homelink for. Nor...

    Garage Door Opener?

The italicized portion of your statement is wrong. Homelink simply replaces clickers. Multiple cars with Homelink (not just Teslas) can easily share the same garage door opener. To the best of my knowledge, your Tailwind "solution" is based on your having the ability to integrate it into...
