    Tire/Battery Life in Arizona

I see where this discussion went off track. You are correct that the newer 16v Li-ion battery, with its totally different chemistry, has a different life expectancy. I believe 12V lead-acid to 16v Li-ion change occurred with 2023 model year? Not sure. Based on multiple posts in this forum...

Is there an alternative to Modern Spare?

That's exactly what I did. Unused Vredestein SpaceMaster off a Levante, got lucky: $400. No regrets, everything is tucked nicely in the deep well: HarborFrieght jack, breaker bar, socket, collapsed spare. I just recently secured the wheel/etc. with a ratcheted strap, attaching it to pre-existing...

Normal. Expect a rough closing if car doors/windows are open. It's a heavy hatch.

    Amtrak Auto Train

HAHAHA! I'm the opposite. I NEVER let anyone drive my cars, even relatives. I've watched cars being clumsily loaded/unloaded on the Amtrak Auto Train. That taught me that it's a service I won't ever use.

    Tire/Battery Life in Arizona

For many cars, like you, I've just waited until failure to replace failed batteries, occurring anywhere between 3 and 8 years, various brands of cars and batteries. I'm no longer willing to deal with the uncertainty and inconvenience of the timing of a failure. The VAST majority of car owners...

Is there an alternative to Modern Spare?

QTownTaxiGreg: "I gather the lifting puck hole is a fair way in under so an extended handle for the jack so you can wind it from afar seems a good idea." Nope. The "lifting puck" jack placement is right under the door sill. No extended handle needed. Scissor jack? For a 4600lb vehicle? Nope...

    Tire/Battery Life in Arizona

weiner-bus: I've seen this map at Ford dealers, Firestone dealers, and elsewhere. It's based on averages. Modern cars give no indication of a weak battery, so it's impossible to tell when it's going to fail. Quality control of battery manufacture is inconsistent. I prefer to proactively...

Tire recommendations for 23 Tesla Model Y LR with stock 19"

Will my M3LR Modern Spare work on new MYP?

Strange sound during regen braking and feels like brakes are catching and releasing at speeds between >20mph. Randomly started yesterday. Ideas?

Hojoooo: 80 k miles, and you rarely use my brakes? Have you done a visual check? Since EVs don't use the hydraulic brakes very much, it's possible there's enough oxidation on the rotors to cause this problem. If you see a lot of discoloration, I'd ask Tesla about doing what I think they call...

Anyone else having issue with rear quarter glass exploding?

ssumit: Statistics? infinitesimally small number. Considering the gazillion cars being manufactured, it's surprising that defective glass doesn't show up more often. IMHO, it's similar to aircraft "failures." Considering the millions of miles flown, failures are exceptionally rare. Of course...

12V on 2021 MYP getting old?

OP: Simplify the process. Let the ranger remove/reinstall the battery. Less chance of there being an issue. I strongly recommend to anyone reading this that ANY 12v "warning" should be taken seriously. These batteries have been known to fail w/o warning, and WITH the warning, a failure can...

will 255/50R19 work on 19" GEMINI WHEELS for model Y?

QTownTaxiGreg: Now I see your point. Since so few have installed 255/50 X 19, I doubt there's any info on fitment clearance. Sorry about that.

    Heater makes a “whoosh” noise?

Several cars I've owned have made similar "whooshing" sounds. I wouldn't consider 25 posts in 2 1/2 years in this specific thread to be any indication of a "wide spread issue they'd rather sweep under the rug."

Update: 2021 MYLR, 53,500 miles. 3500 miles on Pirelli Scorpion A/S Plus 3 255/50 X 19. Vehicle is at 51k miles, with Mountain Pass Performance Comfort Coilovers installed at around 10k miles. I regret my Model Y purchase because of seat comfort and seating position problems

Interesting. Sorry about your discomfort. I"m the exact opposite. I've owned various cars since 1970, and I find the MYLR seat so comfortable that I actually look forward to midday power-naps, and the power-naps I take while road tripping. Now at 54k miles, I couldn't be happier with the comfort...

    Trunk tub, removing bolts

My OCD really had me needlessly worrying about this. It was ridiculously simple. (Sorry, my photos were blurry, didn't notice that until I had everything already installed.) Remove one corner bolt. Install D ring (photo) Repeat on the other side. Set the formed tub back in the well, marked...

Need help deciding on a purchase

Ride quality is totally subjective. I find it hard to believe that any MYP, any year, with 21" wheels, would ride better than a MYLR with 19". My opinion, of course, but the buyer should test drive BOTH versions in his own region and draw his own conclusions.

    Trunk tub, removing bolts

I pulled up the Tesla manual for this. To REMOVE the tub, the diffuser needs to be removed. It wasn't clear as to how the tubs bolts are attached. I'd rather not have to crawl around to remove the diffuser. My almost 70 year old body just isn't happy doing those things any more! Thanks for the...

    Trunk tub, removing bolts

I'm attempting to install tie-down straps for my collapsible spare which resides in the deep well sub trunk. The photo shows nowhere to run straps through the boxbeam frame. No Spare Tire - I Have a few Questions

HAHA! The joke's on me. Our cars have very different castings in the rear. No slots in the box beam, no openings except for the clip to secure the trim. Now I'm wondering if I could attach a hold-down ring to the low corner bolts that hold the actual tub? Can I assume these bolts can be...

    Backwards tire?

Of course you're right, if you're replacing tires every 3-5 years. Here in Texas heat, I replace every 3-4 years, regardless of mileage, because of heat stress potentially causing problems. I would NOT want a tire already 18 months old at the time of installation.
  40. P

    Backwards tire?

I would be more concerned about tires that are 19 months old being sold as "new."

    FSD free trial is over

I kept trying FSD (free). In my region of DFW, with erratic road striping, variable lane widths, I can only characterize it as ...neurotic as hell. New MY, always making steering corrections, as if driving in crosswind

evbuyer18: Are you still on the alignment from the factory? Big mistake. ALL cars from ANY manufacturer should have their alignment checked by an independent tire/suspension shop. I've never trusted any alignment from the factory.
  45. P

    Steering Wheel Centered?

Agreed. Poorly trained techs I've never used any dealership of any brand to do alignment work for me. I've always used independent suspension shops.

    Aluminium doors, who knew?

Uhh...yup! The industry PR raves about the weight-saving advantages of aluminum, but totally ignores the cost of repair, or rather, the inability to repair and the necessity to replace body parts after damage. Welcome to the world of capitalism!

Wiper Blade Replacement Tesla Model Y

Environmental differences, as well. Humidity, acid rain, pollutants, extreme temps, etc. play a role in wiper longevity. My 52k wipers live in TX, with its extreme high temps, BUT...the car is home garaged (unconditioned garage) during daylight hours, probably 80% of the time.
