    Few Model S/Tesla Questions...

Not on a 2015 Model S It was with Model 3 and then new vehicles that they made a viable key solution using a phone. On the older cars like Model S you could still unlock the car if both you and the car have internet connectivity and are both awake, but realistically it's clunky compared to...

    Octopus Energy Saving Sessions

It works on average, there will be exceptions. I'm less sure that forcing discharge is as valuable given charging losses and battery degradation increase the carbon cost.

    Octopus Energy Saving Sessions

Even without the financial incentive, it makes environmental sense. During the day when there is typically significant demand your solar power is consumed likely in place of fossil fuels, and then overnight when there are typically more renewables on the grid you charge your car, heat the bubbly...

If the rise in insurance is because of repair costs why isn’t third party cheap too?

Yup, my Mrs was hit by another driver, her insurance put her in an Enterprise rental, but as soon as the claim was clearly the other parties folk they tricked her to come back into the Enterprise office and sign a new loan agreement for the appointed claims company that was 50% more. They then...

If the rise in insurance is because of repair costs why isn’t third party cheap too?

I think when you renewed is the biggest factor, I'm due in about 6 weeks so last years price was about 25% up on the previous year, when I renew this year it'll be +50% I expect. The reason is clear, they've allowed claims management companies to exist that massively inflate the cost of third...

I doubt that very much, Android phones only get updates to the operating system if the manufacturer bothers.

From my personal testing the priority is based on the exact orientation of your car to lay lines, dowsing rods are essential to ensure early updates.

I would highlight the words 'not a strict rule' and 'generally'. Your personal example doesn't invalidate that.

It's not a strict rule, but it seems that new cars generally don't get updates for the first month or so.

Agreed, looked like an illuminated sign perhaps going in at the car park entrance. They had closed 4 of Tesla bays which was a bit unfriendly. I use Sarn fairly regularly and it doesn't really need more capacity. I'll be going back in a couple of weeks so will have a look round again.

In nearly 5 years of driving a Tesla, once at Woodall was the only time I had to wait for a charger. This was back when there were only 2 that had CCS cables, and they made the mistake of making those 2 the nearest to the path to the services so they were both occupied by free SC Model X's

Do options/accessories ever make much of a difference to used car prices? OP while I'm sure you are well informed, just to mention that in the past some dealers have highlighted the 'Full Self Driving Computer' that all cars have, rathe than actually having the option.

Did Tesla design cars to be able to take a range extender just incase?

I agree there we now have too many EVs in London to keep offering things like free parking, congestion charge etc. I do think that the Vehicle Tax incentives should remain being based on emissions and a different threshold should apply to EVs to be classed a luxury.

Did Tesla design cars to be able to take a range extender just incase?

I'm sure people will hold onto their ICE cars, that's not a bad thing. I think my point is if we cant do it in 2030 then we equally cant do it in 2035 or 2040. It just needs to be done, only impending doom will really get things moving at all.
  28. GRiLLA

Did Tesla design cars to be able to take a range extender just incase?

The challenge around chargers won't happen overnight on Jan 1 2030, there's at least another 3 years before its potentially a massive issue so 9 years from now, its resolvable, plenty of time.

Did Tesla design cars to be able to take a range extender just incase?

It's a time to hold on EVs as far as I'm concerned, at the moment there is a lull as the desperate party will say anything it feels is right wing populism ahead of the election. Assuming bacon sandwiches are carefully avoided we will be back to a 2030 phase out and there will be far more...

Intelligent Octopus, charging, location and automation

I've no idea about the two charge limits, why doesn't it just sync with the car, it clearly can read the value. It certainly complains if the car is less than Octopus whatever that means. Daft Liverpool decision to ban EVs from car park

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Heatable claim their panels will generate more on average in UK weather conditions where you are unlikely to get the full wattage of the panel anyway, although I've not really seen them provide particularly scientific evidence of this. Solar panels do probably need some standardised testing to...

I have USS and Ryzen, so not all but it was a fairly small window at the start of 2022. The UI we've seen already in the US is a toggle between USS and Tesla Vision, not a fusion of them both. Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Indeed, my installers fitted a battery powered smoke alarm, but I've added a heat alarm that's interlinked with the rest of the house. My Sunsynk will also do DC to DC into the battery, so I've occasionally seen more than the inverters rating of solar being consumed, it's rare though as you need significant house load, charging batteries and lots of sun. It, and the 2 batteries are in the loft mounted on the gable wall, I...

Pretty hard for anyone to tell you if it's worth it, it's a large capital cost with a payback over 5-10 years, only you can choose that. AFAIK Octopus sub the work out just like Heatable, Contact Solar and many others. I would get some alternative quotes. My install was Contact Solar and they...

Did Tesla design cars to be able to take a range extender just incase?

So other than a driving holiday in the Highlands, where there is infrastructure but you are scared it might be broken despite lots of EVs doing NC500, there being several hotels/airbnbs with 7kW chargers, and 3 pin charging is universally available, there's really not many other scenarios in the...

I think that you need to divide 2 into some sub categories 2a - Misinformed/Ignorant of the capabilities of EVs 2b - Lives in a location where at home charging is not readily possible yet 2c - Somehow would benefit from a range extender I would suggest that 2c is a very small group, and a...

I guess I'm more positive about Tesla than most, but when I eventually do change Tesla will need more solid reasons to pick them than they do at the moment. I'm likely to keep this car quite a while though, no particular need to change it for another 3 or 4 years.
