    Wireless Phone Charger

This is correct, but wireless charging is very convenient. The position of the phone on that pad also makes it handy to be able to use Siri whilst driving. I have an aftermarket charging pad in my 2019 Model 3. It stops the inductive charging when the phone is full. I don't know if the pad in...

    Wheel alignment

Kwik Fit can do it now (at least my local branch can), but I found a local independent who is much cheaper. They just have to get the information for their Hunter HawkEye computer to be able to do it. I understand there are some under trays that need to be removed to access the adjustment nuts...

Need a mini fridge for the centre console!

Does the 12v socket in a M3 get its power from the 12v battery or some transform from the high-voltage battery? I'm just curious to know if using such a thing might lead to some of the lockouts people have been discussing on other threads.

Need a mini fridge for the centre console!

I had considerable success with a miniature insulated bag and some frozen pads during the recent heatwave in Europe where outside temperatures were above 40ºC. It kept drinks and medicines cool nearly all day.

eCall emergency call system needs service

I had this issue a few months ago. In my case it was diagnosed to a faulty GPS antenna that Tesla replaced under warranty.

Help - MYP or BMW iX

Most of my previous cars were BMWs, and I do wish that some aspects of my M3 were as well put together. That said, I wouldn't buy a non-Tesla EV because of the charging network. Even with some of the Tesla ones opened up to other cars, it just wouldn't be good enough for me. Only yesterday I...

European road trip. Is there any reason why this wouldn't work?

I bought the various tails for the UMC for my recent trip to Europe, mainly in case I got stuck somewhere instead of intending to use them at my accommodation. I didn’t use the UMC because fast chargers happened to be near enough to my destinations. Reassuring to have them with me though.

Driving to France and Switzerland - advice needed

I just drove down to Italy via France, Belgium and Switzerland. I concur with what others have said, but have a few more observations. I already had Euro RAC cover. I also carry one of those puncture repair tools in case the wait would be too long. I've found that if you go into the headlight...

Rumour of free premium for leases cars ending

Ah yeah thanks. I'm being a bit dim and equating normal phone connectivity with the hotspot stuff we've been discussing. Sorry. In any case, I'm going off-topic. I'd expect to notice a jump from the compressed Spotify streams based on what others have said on non-Tesla forums about it. I...

Really, how is your phone connected to the car? I would have thought the BlueTooth connection would have nullified any potential improvement from the HiFi stream.

Just to add, that you can long touch the WiFi icon in Control Centre to get an icon that will toggle the Personal Hotspot. I've never needed to use the Personal Hotspot whilst driving. Does the car stay connected for hours?

    Kia e-Niro

Few that know me would call me a Tesla fanboi, on the contrary. The Tesla is both satisfying and irritating in equal measure to me. I do tell people that I would be unlikely to go back to a conventional car, and that I hope there will be other viable options to choose from by the time I come to...

    Kia e-Niro

I shall be compelled to drive a new Kia e-Niro for about a month whilst my model 3 is being repaired. I'm pleased because it is a far better alternative to the little ICE hatchbacks typically provided as courtesy cars. My initial impression is stoic acceptance of the fact that driving this...

BBC 1 - Panorama: The Electric Car Revolution – Winners and Losers. Wednesday at 19:30

I agree. I think the programme fell beneath both the BBC's and Panorama's standards. Not because I think Tesla or Elon need defending in any way, but because the programme will do bugger all to improve the plight of those suffering. I too feel sorry for the people being exploited in DRC, and I...

Taking an M3 to the garage to swap tyres - what to tell them?

Some of the big tyre fitter names now have them at their depots. It's still early days for Teslas. I'd have them if only to cope with the recovery van on the side of the road that I hope I never need.

Taking an M3 to the garage to swap tyres - what to tell them?

The torque settings on the nuts which are a little higher than many cars the same size as an M3. Most places now look them up on a computer as part of their safety procedure, but some don't. Good idea to put some lube on the jack pads to make removal easier afterwards too.

5Live via TuneIn. "This broadcast is not available in your country" - how to listen?

TuneIn sometimes get it wrong too. They started blocking URLs on a few other stations I listen to for that reason even though I could stream directly from the radio station's own website in the same place. I stopped using TuneIn on all my devices as a consequence.

UK RHD Model 3 Wiper Blades

No problem with them whatsoever. You do notice a different shape of uncleaned area at the foot of the windscreen due to the ½ inch less blade at the bottom, but this has no impact on vision. The ½ inch missing at the top means that the left blade only just clears the little circular sensor...

What charging apps and card subscriptions?

Depends where you go. Use ABRP to plan your route and work out what you might need. ev.energy to optimise home charging costs.

Tidal and in car audio with 2021.40.x

On an iPhone, there is a Maximise Compatibility toggle in Settings > Personal Hotspot. Amongst other things, this forces the phone's hotspot to 2.4 GHz (well it did when I just tested it).

    ev.energy wants my data

To be clear, I wasn't implying that ev.energy aren't trustworthy. I use the app to optimise my home charging costs, and I think it is great. I simply meant that it is a personal decision about what we are happy for any given app provider to do with our account credentials. Many people posting...

    ev.energy wants my data

I think this is down to your level of trust in ev.energy than anything else. You would be agreeing for them to track you. I can't see the full terms from the screenshot, but there doesn't seem to be any mention of anonymisation.

What's the best accessory for your model 3?

There is a bolt already on the car that projects from the parcel shelf into the boot about 6" into the boot on the top right. It screws onto that.

I wasn't suggesting you did, merely that I too find it useful to keep under those limits.

Phantom Braking now bad on vision only

I'd like to meet the Phantom and give him a heavy kick in the nuts. TACC/Autopilot (or whatever) is up there for the worst implemented feature prize IMO. I don't find it dangerous, just irritating in the extreme. Like @init6, the only circumstance I find it useful in is the average speed limits...

EO Smart Home App Is A Stinking Pile Of Garbage

    Tesla account for me.
  36. Jeeves

A view from the other side..

It's quite interesting to hear about the disparity between Tesla and that of a late-entrant, low-end, ICE car maker. However, apart from the drivetrain/battery management software, I think the in-car experience that Tesla provides is quite sub-standard in many respects. Whilst the display is...

EO Smart Home App Is A Stinking Pile Of Garbage

There is one good thing about the EO's smarts, you get alerts if it goes offline when the circuit breaker trips. This has happened to me four times in just over two years, and it was good to be able to respond and get the car charging again.
  38. Jeeves

EO Smart Home App Is A Stinking Pile Of Garbage

I don't disagree with the title, but given you have a Tesla, it's easier to use other smarts. I find the ev.energy app brilliant.

So, in your opinion, do you think the Tidal streaming is likely to be noticeably better given the cabin noise?
  40. Jeeves

Tidal and in car audio with 2021.40.x

Thank you. I hardly ever use the built in Spotify. I operate Apple Music with Siri on my iPhone and play it via Bluetooth into the car. I shall try Tidal when I get the car's firmware upgrade, but it would have to be a big jump in sound quality to justify the subscription for me.

    Schedule battle

I'd recommend the ev.energy app in preference to your charger and car's scheduling features. Not only does it work well in terms of optimising your cost, you also get money back for low-carbon charges.

    UK Tesla App v4

I couldn't agree more. I've not even experimented with the Tesla feature because ev.energy is better. The only downside is if the car's Internet connectivity drops and ev.energy can't control it. That only happened to me once though. Moreover, every few charges you get a £5 Amazon voucher back...

Tidal and in car audio with 2021.40.x

Sorry, I'm a simple soul and don't understand all these bit rate audio stuff being chucked around. I'm a punter with Premium Connectivity in the Tesla and Apple Music on the phone. Tidal and in car audio with 2021.40.x

Thanks @Epyx @Tony Hoyle . I subscribe to Apple Music which is now providing 'Lossless' for many tracks, but I understood that you can't play that quality over Bluetooth. Is there any way to get that higher quality audio playing through the car?

Thanks @VanillaAir_UK. I'd settle for just being able to switch off the TA in TACC and have the basic functionality that most cars with cruise control have available as an option.

    FSD beta cheats ;-)

Apologies if this is an FAQ, but will some of the FSD code replace the current TACC/basic Autopilot and have a sporting chance of making it useful?
