FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

On a 25 mph small road near me, V12 consistently slows at two locations. At these locations there's writing on the road. "SCHOOL" at one and "STOP AHEAD" at the other. V11 never slowed. Anyone else notice that?

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I see almost no advantage for the company that operates that versus, say, one that operates a normal taxi. That is, in both, the driver is working the same amount of time. In one he's in the car, in the other he's in the office. The only upside I can think of is he can easily switch to a...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Interesting. I find any long drive tiring and much less so on FSD. Might be age related. Serious question: What about driving on a four lane for twelve hours? We did some twelve hour drives on a road trip, and I wouldn't have done that without FSD.

    Please explain software branches

When I search, many posts say there's no understanding branches, but a lot of posters speak of them as if they are clearcut. I want to understand them so I can find out when I'm likely to get a new feature (e.g.Audible). How many branches are there? Has anyone diagrammed these branches? BTW...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Note that you can't clear that nag by just torquing the wheel. You must torque the wheel AND look up at the road. Yes, this invaluable in a strange town. I learned that here, when the nav said, "Enter the roundabout and take the second exit."

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Not saying this is happening to you, but when my wife started using autopilot she would unintentionally disengage via torque all the time. I finally realized that she was trying to influence the car's path. That is, if she felt the car was too far left, she would turn the wheel a little bit to...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I've seen all those things. Concerning Item 5, you really can learn a hand-on-the-wheel approach that rarely disengages unintentionally. I used to use button or stalk presses to satisfy the nag, but decided having a hand on the wheel is safer, giving you a faster response to rare time-critical...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Please report again after ten drives or so. I've seen a world of difference from one drive to the next without recalibrating. I hope you're right.

Wall charger cable starting to distort

LOL. Yes, I soon added a better way of supporting it. As for the orange cord: Guilty! That cord is really stiff, and that's why it's not well hung. I think I have to beat it.

FSD Performance Degraded due to poor weather

Absolutely. I've seen that multiple times.

Using FSD for 3 months - Is my experience typical?

One reason I asked that is related to a particular lane drift problem. At one location, the car frequently, but not always, went into a right-turn-only lane inappropriately. Then, it stopped making that error. Ten times in a row, it behaved perfectly. Problem solved? Did it learn from my...
  13. PianoAl

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Not reproducible. In the post, i reported the car riding the center line on a straightaway. Yesterday, same road, same spot, it stayed in the lane perfectly. However, there are curves where the car almost always drives over the line.

Using FSD for 3 months - Is my experience typical?

Is there any chance that some things get fixed somehow even within the same version? I've had similar experiences. But the software can't learn from our disengagements except through new releases, right?

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

For my usage, country highways with little traffic, V11 was better. Note that I rarely let the car make UPLs, and I take over in dicey situations. With V12: I need to use the accel pedal frequently to get up to the speed limit. There's a big difference between letting the car drive vs...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

That's a tough nut to crack. I came upon a small pothole going 65 mph on a highway and had almost no time to decide it was a hole and turn to avoid it. My immediate thought: FSD will never be able to do that. Big, obvious potholes at slow speed, maybe. If they try to solve it, we're going to...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

The amount of inconsistency from one drive to the next is stunning. Yesterday the car just kept driving with wheels on the double yellow line rumble strip on a straightaway until I disengaged. On a related note, has anyone been pulled over due to FSD behavior? If so, what did you tell the officer?

    J1772 adapter stuck

That will release the adapter and plug from the car, but not the adapter from the plug. And you meant driver side, right?
  19. PianoAl

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

It's inconsistent on this road. Sometimes it gets the 65 mph sign, other times not.

    J1772 adapter stuck

If you're still trying to remove it ... If it's an issue of debris and a tight fit, my fix for a stuck two piece sailboard mast might work. The key was repeated percussive pulls straight out. That is, I set up a jig so that I could repeatedly slam the mast such that each collision was pulling...

Why don’t the cars talk ?

Yes, that's important. I get annoyed when devices that can talk try to communicate with beeps. Occasionally I'll hear a beep but won't know what it's trying to communicate or even which device it's coming from. I walk around. Toaster, coffee pot, computer, phone, tablet, charger, microwave...

    Upcoming Audible App

    Upcoming Audible App

I currently listen to audiobooks via Bluetooth. The disadvantage is that I can't change books or get an audiobook started without stopping the car. Apparently, Audible will soon be supported natively. That's great, but there's no way I'll spend $15 a month for Audible when I can get audiobooks...

    Turning signal button "stuck"

That is weird. So the car will make the lane change unless you disengage?
  28. PianoAl

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Well, apparently the cabin camera will better detect inattention, making the steering wheel nag necessary only when the camera can't monitor you sufficiently (hat, shades).
  29. PianoAl

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Yes, all the time. I think there was quite a discussion about this upthread. Concerning getting rid of nags completely, I'd be surprised. Nags are a good thing, and stop my mind from wandering.

Perhaps do more test driving of the 3 and try different seating positions. I'm 70 and find our 3s very comfortable and easy to get into and out of. You can also experiment with easy entry mode though I don't use it.

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I gave up on Autopark yesterday. It took so long and had so many back-and-forth corrections that I wanted to get out and announce to any onlookers that I wasn't driving.

    Turning signal button "stuck"

The steering wheel indicator buttons on the new Tesla Model 3 delivered to us Feb 2024 randomly failed upon first press of either button within days of delivery and I immediately laid a case with federal recalls branch. FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I saw this again today. I'm a cyclist and I appreciate motorists giving them room, but the car went way too far over the double yellow line. I'd upload the video, but it's similar to the one posted.
  39. PianoAl

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I have seen similar behavior for pedestrians and have disengaged. It's the amount of lane departure plus doing it when there's limited visibility that's the issue. I never noticed that prior to FSD V12.
  40. PianoAl

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

The only degradation that I've seen is a failure to make automatic lane changes. Is there anything else. Limiting the top speed is handled separately. Do you mean that Tesla must be liable because the operator can't intervene? IOW, they can't call them SASS and SBanish. Interesting.
  41. PianoAl

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

The slower speed issue has bothered me less lately, in part because I've learned how to deal with it. The key is to tap the accelerator pedal whenever it's driving below your MAX setting, but be ready for it to drive too fast around upcoming turns. Often it will seem to take the turn too fast...

Noise while driving on the freeway, 65-80 mph?

Have you done a fine toothed comb walk-around of the car and looked extensively underneath it? I bet you can find something. Can you open the windows when driving and tell where it's coming from? Check at the front bottom of the A pillar.

Two teslas over two days with FSD (12.3.4)

It can be very inconsistent. Same situation, different result. There's a place where it sometimes lane drifts into a right-turn-only lane. Other times, not. Other times, halfway.
