FS: MountainPass Performance Model 3 suspension goodies

Thanks Dude. For what it's worth, these parts let me dial in an alignment that made it easy to get within 10 deg F hot tire temps across their width. Not to mention the vast improvement in steering precision and reduction in unwanted dynamic toe curve and dynamic camber loss. Two big thumbs up...

FS: Carbotech XP10 brake pad set for Model 3 Performance

For Sale: Front and Rear Carbotech XP10 brake pads for Model 3 Performance. These only have six 15 minute track sessions on them, with tons of pad thickness left. The thinnest I could find on the front pad was 10.5mm (the material, not including the backing plate), and the rears measure at...

how long does it take to recognize new TPMS sensor on brand new wheels and tires

OP, I have those exact TPMS on my winter wheels and they work perfect. It takes about 1.5 miles at ~25 MPH. When going back to OEM sensors, the recognition time is identical.

    P3D+ Street/Track/Time Trial Build

I'm impressed you took the time to run through the math for the thermal dissipation. Your assumption that every corner at every track has a 145-40 MPH braking zone however is simply not realistic. For example, and using my SS 1LE personal best. My favorite local track (Grattan Raceway), the...

Cruise Control Unavailable -- Full USB might have caused it

I can +1 the USB getting corrupted by the Tesla operating system appears to cause TACC, AP, and rear camera to not work. I unplugged my DashCam USB drive, had Windows "fix the errors" and the car works fine again.

It happens most often on high-contrast (sunny) days when you drive under an over-pass. Best driving practice to avoid being rear-ended from it is to hover your foot over the accelerator pedal to quickly take over control.

    Four Windshield Washer Tips

After I took delivery I went to "top off" the washer fluid and ended up putting in damn near a full gallon. The main thing I'd like to see is an option to turn off the "courtesy wipe" after using the washer spray. 4 total wipes (3 + 1 courtesy wipe) after releasing the washer button has always...

    Track pack is here!

#4 in that list mentions data being "printed". If it even fractionally approaches the Cosworth Performant Data Recorder that some of GM's performance cars have, it will be a windfall for us track rats. Video with data+GPS overlay w/lap times would be the shiznit.

Adaptive regen setting for track mode, is that possible?

Three ways to tighten the loose nut behind the wheel: *Quicken your transition from brake pedal to accelerator pedal *Start your braking later, and transition to using the regen for the final few MPH "trail-braking" into the turn-in. *Use both feet to modulate friction and regen as you desire...

New Track Mode v2 and Track pack!?!?

You're throwing an awfully large blanket on the topic and dissing PUP owners using elitist language. Arguing that the factory top-of-the-line is somehow less sophisticated is nonsensical. You know, it's OK to admit you prefer the stealth for specific reasons without discounting others...

New Track Mode v2 and Track pack!?!?

More interested? Based on what? What time period does "original P3D- buyers" fall into? Like Knightshade said, there's no point to buy a Stealth right now, because you can click PUP and sell off the bits to offset the cost of track day stuff. You'd be a fool to leave that value on the table.

New Track Mode v2 and Track pack!?!?

Even if you were citing real examples, it is not indicative of the breadth of ownership intent. We're talking about expensive luxury toys with intrinsic depreciation, and within that financial whirlpool we're talking about track days. Making an argument that there's some "correct" financial...

New Track Mode v2 and Track pack!?!?

You're making a theoretical argument with imaginary owners using an assumption there's a fixed and clear end point of vehicular development with the primary concern being minimizing the financial cost to get to that particular end point. If only life was so cut-and-dry.

New Track Mode v2 and Track pack!?!?

It depends on their cost/profit calculations whether it's worth it to develop a comprehensive Track Pack [like Chevrolet's 1LE package for the Camaro]. At that point they know they're competing with the aftermarket and it would have to be very compelling to choose Tesla's offering. It would...

New Track Mode v2 and Track pack!?!?

That's the entire point of track tires though....to use them for hot laps at the track. Also FYI, the Cup 2 in 245/35R20 is only $345/each on Tire Rack, which is a reasonable price for that tire size. Track days aren't a hobby for saving money; they're a great way to turn a large fortune into...

When to switch from winter tire to summer/all season?

Typically, I run winters from early December to late March, as we usually get a late March encore blizzard here in Detroit. This season was unusual in that we had a big snowstorm in early November, so I've been running my winter set since then. There's been a few years where I didn't need to...

    How is passing performance

Here's a datalog from wugz on reddit that compares the power outputs of the LR AWD, AWD w/accel boost, and Performance, from 0-100 MPH. The Performance's advantage is from 0-75 MPH, and it goes to parity with all three as you approach 100 MPH. At 100 MPH, all AWD Model 3's make about 429 HP...

Efficient all-season road-tripping tire with some snow grip

Efficient all-season road-tripping tire with some snow grip

Your topic is "all season tire", and winter is a major season in the UP. You failed to provide use-case in your OP, and it was only when you decided to be a jerk did the main use-case finally come out. If you're trying to make enemies here, you're doing a great job.

Efficient all-season road-tripping tire with some snow grip

Oh, the UP eh? IMO, going to the UP is unwise for a Tesla owner even after the planned Superchargers are completed. When you get caught in a typical blizzard up there, a high-efficiency tire will get you stuck and there won't be any "20-30 extra miles". The Michelin A/S 3+ is what I'd...

    Get used to acceleration?

It all depends on what you're acclimated to. As a sport-bike rider and occasional American V8 owner, the Performance has good acceleration at lower speeds but I find it lacking on the top end. It's really similar to Diesel engine power curves where they run out of breath at high speed. In the...

    Track junkies, need some info

Yes, a 235 wide tire with about 1,018 pounds per tire is hard on tires even with good dynamic camber. A stock Model 3, as your pictures show, rides almost solely on the sidewall at peak lateral accel. The rest of the tire is essentially unused. Improving the suspension so the tire contact...

If SMT indicates "Max regen" is 85 kW, why don't I get that?

Battery temp and State of Charge are key factors in the regen amount. Wugz has a graph he posted on r/teslamotors. His AWD shows about 76kW. Does anyone know Model 3 max regen in KW? : teslamotors

    Track junkies, need some info

I have an alternate take on this tire. The PS4S are quite track tolerant....on other cars that aren't suffering from the lack of camber the Model 3 has. My most recent personal example would be my 2017 Camaro SS 1LE. I used PS4S's for wet track tires, and their tread wear was completely...

    Track junkies, need some info

I know it feels good to "stick it to the man", but in this case you'd just go broke from lawyer fees. If you want a new car that has on-track warranty coverage, your options are extremely limited. Here's an amusing article where Autoblog asked several automakers for warranty clarification on...

    Track junkies, need some info

Here's my take after three track days with the M3P, after at least a hundred days in other sports cars: #1. Like others have said, 18"s and 19"s work #2. My Performance came with 235's front and back. Like others have said, 265's all-around with no rub, 275's with more camber. #3. The stock...

Other than "competition, racing...or any other purposes for which the vehicle is not designed." Even if you could successfully argue taking your street car on a race track isn't racing, that big broad "other purposes" is ensuring they'll win and you'll lose. For comparison, read the warranty...

Is the Unplugged Performance high efficiency trunk spoiler the best Model 3 spoiler?

OP said in the first post that he added the Gurney flap to the High Efficiency spoiler. I agree it would've been clearer if he included "high downforce spoiler" in the thread title instead of him focusing on being click-baiting. Unplugged's website: High Downforce Trunk Spoiler for Tesla...

Is the Unplugged Performance high efficiency trunk spoiler the best Model 3 spoiler?

That's called a Gurney flap, named after race car driver Dan Gurney. The result is improved flow separation and reduced turbulence, not more. There is a small drag penalty. The Gurney flap on Unplugged's offering is an optional extra, the base "high efficiency" spoiler doesn't come with it.

    performance brakes

D1001 is correct. Since Brembo supplies many OEM, they use the same pad sizes when appropriate to minimize tooling costs. The [D]1001 is one of the most common modern Brembo 4-piston caliper pads out there. You can see on Racing Brake and Porterfield's sites; they show the FMSI numbers. So...
