2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

Yep, the S does outperform the 3 in corners, as well as pretty much any other metric you can think of. I've tracked my Plaid, and even on a very tight course it is an absolute monster. Yes, the steering could be quicker and firmer with a more direct feel, but the adjustable suspension, track...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

It comes down to efficiency and range vs grip. Sure, you can spend all day obsessing about wheels and wheel covers and tire sizes and compounds, but at the end of the day, do you want an energy efficient pooch on some 500-600 treadwear tires, or do you want a performance car with proper tires...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

The 235's on the previous generation did not slow it down a bit, the thing dead-hooks even in the wet in a straight line. Even with $89 Westlake tires with a 500 treadwear rating they dead-hook, traction just isn't a factor for acceleration. My Plaid is about 5,100 pounds with me in it, has...

    Future classic?

The only one that has a chance of being somewhat desirable is a Plaid(S or X I guess), but we're talking 20+ years in the future, and it will be surpassed several times over by then. So.......none will be desirable classics. I think it's more likely they'll be bought cheap, gutted, cut, stripped...

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

Who is paying attention to EPA range in an M3P? Drive it like you stole it, get 200 miles of range, and charge it back up. My Plaid is advertised at 395, shows 372, and gets about 200 with me beating on it, with somewhat close-to-advertised cruising down the freeway, None of my gas cars ever got...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

    If it can run a 10.99 @ 120 bone stock I will be impressed. Mid-low 10's and/or a 122+ trap are crack-smoking territory.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I beat on my M3P like a rental car every day for a year, and I do the same with my Plaid. Tires are a necessary expense, and to many, a car is boring if all it does is potentially turn in slightly faster than a model with nearly twice the power and AWD. I would argue that always having the power...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I'm down for a hot hatch with 600+ horsepower, AWD, and all the goodies to make it an absolute gut-punch weapon in the straights and the turns. Something like a WRC car, but with massive grip.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Same as the old car's top end, just bumped up a bit. Nothing about the drivetrain has fundamentally changed, just a slightly "better" rear motor of the same design. A Hellcat will absolutely destroy an M3P from any 60+ roll.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I launched my 3 and Plaid right in front of the Tesla dealer and have beat on them every day ever since.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Looking at the Draggy chart, it appears the car dead-hooked and did the run nice and smooth without any tire spin. I compared it to some of my 0-60 graphs and looked closely at the last 1/2 of the pull. It lines up perfectly with my run, meaning the power output is more or less the same, it...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Did you just tag an admin because you don't like hearing about others' real-world experience? Here's mine. I had a 2023 M3P for 2 days shy of a year. Falls on its face after 50 Mph. The new one, even with a 10%, hell, a 20% increase in power is still going to feel just like the old car, slightly...

Plaid Drag Racing - Not such a great night

I had to turn off pedestrian/object detection, had that happen a couple times in the left lane. My best time there last month was a 6.39, creeping up into the 6.5X range. Most passes I was spinning for a good 150-200 feet, it's a very slick surface. I may go back this Saturday and try running...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I'll take the actual specs(motor, battery, etc...) over the subjective opinions of a few journalists/bloggers who drove an M3P once for a few hours back in 2018.
