Who else has done it? I still can't find any online references to people doing it successfully and properly.

But why wouldn't the holes be there from the factory? When I removed the middle row out of my prior 6s, there were lots of tapped holes, I figured that was for all the other seat configs... I can't imagine they'd have a whole different metal platform just for a 5s over a 6s/7s.

@geordi Thanks for responding at all! Much appreciated. Not sure I understand, so you did find that "One or a couple of the factory holes did line right up on the initial positioning."? Seems to me that a 5s folding bench seat should fit in a 7s or 6s because it's the same platform and year...

Extensive discussion here, sounds possible, but sounds like @geordi did drilling... one would think the screw holes would be there since a 5s had folding seats. Doesn't make sense to me why I can't just get a 5s bench seat and put it in a 7s/6s. Also referencing a similar conversation here...

Drilling and tapping new holes isn't in my wheelhouse... I was hoping the holes were already there.

So is it possible to replace the second row of seats with folding seats? On my last X, I removed the two captain chairs in the 6-s version to put in a camping bed, but it was a major pain to take them out and put them back in.

Good point. When I used to purchased BMW's (now I'm all Tesla or Toyota Hybrids), I liked to buy them still under warranty so *all* the service records the dealer had, and once the car became mine, they would inform me of all the service, though I couldn't see the prior owner's information, so...
