2019 Model 3 opvolger kiezen

(Tenzij men Europa toch eerder gaat voorzien).

Optie zou nog zijn om na inleveren auto een pool auto te gaan rijden en te wachten totdat Juniper beschikbaar komt en dan te bestellen, maar dat kan best nog lang duren.

Benieuwd naar jullie afwegingen en keuze.

Wiki Everything you wanted to know about Intelligent Octopus But Were Afraid To Ask

Why write this post?
A lot of people are starting to get interested in IO. I don't think Octopus do a very good job of spelling out the benefits in their website. They have some FAQs, but the same questions keep coming up over and over on the forums.

What is it?
In a nutshell, IO is a split tariff that gives you a cheap off-peak rate for charging your EV and other electrical items in the household, including home batteries.

Isn’t that the same as Octopus Go or Go Faster?
The principle is the same, but in exchange for some benefits which we’ll explain, you allow Octopus to control the timing of your EV charge, so they can choose low carbon intensity and/or cheap wholesale priced time slots.

So I’m not in control of my charge? I don’t like the sound of that!
Well yes…and no. You’re in control of how much to charge and when you want the car to be ready, just like you would be normally. Within those parameters, you’re allowing Octopus to control which half-hour slots the car chooses to get to that target % charge. And you can always override IO if you want to “bump charge” through the day.

OK, but what are the benefits you mentioned for this trade off?
First of all, you get a larger guaranteed off-peak window for using household appliances and charging home batteries, etc. It’s six hours between 23:30-05:30. Go, for example, is a fixed 4 hour window.
In addition, when IO schedules your EV charging slots it sometimes creates schedules that fall outside of the fixed, six hour window. If that happens your EV charging and all your household use in these extra-slots is also charged at off-peak rates.
I have frequently had schedules give me seven or more hours of off-peak rates. On one occasion, I had a total of ten hours of off-peak rates.

Am I eligible?
You need a smart meter and a compatible car and/or charger. Since you’re reading this here, I assume you’ve got or are thinking of getting a Tesla. IO works with the Tesla API to create the charging schedules. The advantage of this is that IO will work with any* home charger. If you have a charger with smart features, you need to disable them so that the charger acts as a dumb switch. IO will control everything via Tesla’s API to start and stop your charging.
*Even your granny charger - but you need to tell IO what the max throughput is when you go through setup so that it can work out your schedules properly.

Some of this sounds too good to be true.
Phantom drain caused by having smart charging enabled in the Octopus app has been fixed as of 30th August 2022. One small side effect appears to be that schedules sometimes take longer to appear in the app after plugging in.

Further questions (to be updated in the main thread body once the edit timer on this post expires)

I have two EVs, can I charge the other while on IO?

Not with IO scheduling the charging, but you can charge any other car in the fixed 23:30-05:30 off peak window or at any other time at peak prices.

What are the rates etc?
Octopus do a decent job of explaining the peak and off-peak rates along with contracts etc. Head over to their pages to discover that.

I asked for a target % of x, but I got less than x.
There are two or three reasons for this.

The first, most common reason, is that Tesla reports battery % differently depending on where you look. The API (that IO uses) reports the gross battery %. This is generally fixed but can fluctuate very slightly. The Tesla app shows usable %. Apps like Teslamate and Teslafi can display both. Quite often, there is a delta of 2-3% which may be down to battery temp or other factors. This usable % will often be recovered as the battery warms up during a drive.

Some users have reported charging % being way off, perhaps 10% or more. This could be down to an error in the onboarding process. Some of the charger database entries incorrectly assume the charger you are onboarding is the 11kW version, without actually saying so in the charger description. The Andersen A2 was an early example of this. If you suspect this may be the case, the easiest thing to do is go through the on-boarding again and choose "Generic 7.4kW charger". It won't affect your functionality on IO in any way.

Lastly, it has to be mentioned that occasionally IO just craps out. It may be down to a comms error, a server error at Octopus' end, or just reasons. IO is a beta product and it's wise to expect one or two quirks from time to time

Opening the trunk with some button ?

On my M3, 2023, There is a button on the trunk to close it. Once it's close, the button is no accessible anymore.
Is there a button to open the trunk instead of using the app OR open the car door then touch the "trunk open" icon on the screen ?
Most of the time, we open the trunk first to put stuff in there (groceries, bags, etc...) before entering the car. And this is quite a pretty quick operation. Just unlock the car using the remote key then manually pop the trunk up or push a button at the trunk (exterior) to open it.
On Tesla M3, I could not find something similar.
Kind of weird having to enter the car, open the trunk, go put things in it, close the trunk then enter the car again to drive.
This has been an annoyance to me since day 1.

Vertical Scratches On Model S Window

I would like anyone who has a model S to have a close look at there door windows for thin vertical lines.

These lines are difficult to see unless you are looking for them and are caused by anything getting stuck in the seal at the bottom of the window.

Every Model S I have ever driven has had these issues to some level (4 in total)

I've seen on other threads that Tesla has sometimes resolved the problem or remedied it in other ways.

My question is, how many other people have this issue and given that it's a standard manufacturing/Design issue and Tesla have repaired the issues for some. Am I being unreasonable for them to fix this on my 3-year-old 16k warranty car?

Gauge cluster not working

Interested in purchasing a model S. Only major issue with vehicle I am looking at is that the instrument cluster does not appear to be working (black). I searched the forum and found others mentioning this issue and potential firmware update fixes but would like some clarification.

I have attached a link to a video link, see below, which illustrated the lack of instrument cluster display (see 1:35 mark in video).

Disc brake significant grooves - performance only?

So, I’ve read multiple issues online but I think I have SIGNIFICANT grooves on my discs.
I popped into Leeds SC yesterday just to ask. They didn’t assess the car, but the lovely lady said “do you have a performance with red brake callipers”. Apparently it’s a currently rising issue, and they’re currently preparing a case study with brembo.
Advised to book a service and upload pictures then await to hear something.
I’ve attached the pictures. My car was delivered 28/03/2020, I’ve done 6,800 mile so definitely not something I’d expect to be normal in that time frame

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

Greetings. I know a lot of people in my area have Solar on there homes. Some have Tesla Solar. I didn’t see a Thread for My area discussing the Install time , Permit time and PTO time of Tesla Solar. Also I would like to find out What type of systems Tesla has designed for your home. How is it working? What Energy company did you sign up for ? Do they offer net Metering? Tesla has advised me to use MP2( Shell). Tesla has also said a 9.6kw system would be good for my current energy usage of 13,500 kWh’s per year. I opted to get a Powerwall. Only 1 to keep cost down. Should I go for two? Tesla. Said I absolute have 2-3 days back up.

Supercharger - Augusta, ME - 281 Civic Center Dr

Permits just went in for the addition of 16 stall v4 Tesla EV charging station with an address of 281 Civic Center Dr, Augusta, ME 04330. This shows as a 99 Restaurant and Comfort Inn. This is a NEVI award site so will most certainly be a V4 post build as was recently done at the Rockland Tesla NEVI site.

Given the Rockland site is done, there is a possibility this might be done by the same contractor - possibly soon although it's anyone's guess.

Post amended to include site plan info. The plan confirms a v4 traditional construction site (ie. it will not use pre-fab supercharger units).

Plaid suspension warranty issue

Morning,

I purchased a new 2022 Plaid and just broke 10k miles. Have had two front drive units replaced, steering wheel internal mechanism replaced (somehow broke) and two alignments done. I now have constant squeaking from the front driver side suspension at low speeds. I made a service request and they are charging $152 to diagnose. Has anyone experienced this issue and is there a reason warranty isn’t covering this? I asked Tesla and still waiting on a response.

Soundskins Cabin Noise Dampening Kit

Has anyone used and installed the below sound dampening kit from Soundskins? If so, what are you're thoughts? Did it help with the reduction of road noise inside the cabin?

I've gotten my vehicle back from Tesla after 2 months and they readjusted the rear lift gate, and installed the lift gate stoppers but the car is still unbearably loud inside. Looking for an alternative to get me through to next April when I can get rid of the car after doing my taxes.

Thanks!

Front window issues after tint

Hello, long time Tesla owner (2013 S, 2018 3, 2022 S) here. We picked up a 2016 Model X last week and took it in to get tinted yesterday. Upon completion the drivers window is now misaligned and now doesn’t seat into the trim seal when closing. The window and is extending about halfway up the outside of the window trim. The detailer denies they caused the issue. The passenger window is having issues as well. That window seats in the seal but then re opens a couple inches before stopping. I read through some options on recalibrating the windows using the window switches but that did not resolve the issue. Amy suggestions on how I will need to fix this? Is this something I can do from home or will it need to be taken in to the service center or maybe a window specialist like Safelite?

I am not letting the detailer touch the car again.

Thanks for any feedback on how to resolve
