USED MS LR/Plaid OR MX LR/Plaid

I have a 2020 S and recently had a refresh (23?) X as a loaner for 2 days while my S was in the shop. Auto-open and close doors were a nice luxury touch, falcon doors were very cool and very practical to load kids and I loved the wireless charging pad for phones right underneath the console, but...

Oil change in drive unit tesla model S

Just adding my two cents to the debate earlier on whether this is required and why does Tesla say its not required etc. I got a new rear LDU replaced recently and over the past 200 miles, my efficiency has improved to the tune of 20-25 wh/mile. All other factors constant. 54k miles on original...

    2020 Model S drive unit whine/whirring noise

Just updating here for reference - Tesla replaced LDU under drive unit warranty. They finished in under 48 hours so they must have remanufactured LDUs on hand. I got the '1025598-01-U' spec LDU.

Thank you for sharing, really good info for Tesla owners.

    2020 Model S drive unit whine/whirring noise

I have the often-reported drive unit noise in my 2020S. 54K miles. Car runs excellent, efficiency and range unchanged. Just in last 2k miles the drive unit has gotten notably more audible. At all speeds, it makes a noticeably louder noise both on acceleration and deceleration. Have a service...

    Michelin ePrimacy tyres

"e" Primacy must be new, it doesn't show on Michelin's website. I just finished running a set of regular Primacy MXM4s and was unimpressed. Efficiency was lower than non "EV Ready" tires I have run before and since and they got very noisy right around 9k miles before giving up at 12k.

    Resetting the BMS

Has anyone with a Model S actually successfully completed a BMS reset?!?!

    Resetting the BMS

I don't have any errors, however, I believe my BMS may have drifted after 52k miles. My rated range has been inconsistent / lower than it used to be so I would like to reset.

    Resetting the BMS

Cool. Has anyone with a 2020-2021 Model S successfully done the BMS reset this way? I am curious.

    Resetting the BMS

Hello, I am about to replace my 12V battery and I believe you have to disconnect the fireman's loop to do that. Wouldn't that open the contactors and has anyone tried resetting the BMS after disconnecting the fireman's loop?

    Michelin Primacy MXM4 sucks!

Thanks all for putting up with my vent, and for the suggestions. I am running 19s - 275x40x19 in rear. I may try the P-Zero Elect for next go-around. PS4S are awesome and all my other cars run that tire, I assumed a grippy performance tire would be less efficient on the EV? This is my wife's...

    Michelin Primacy MXM4 sucks!

After only 11k miles, the MXM4 rears are down to 3/32nds and they are EXTREMELY LOUD. I had a set of Continental DWS06+ before this and they were good, but also only lasted about 14k miles on the rear. I got marginally better efficiency on the non-EV rated Contis too, compared to the MXM4 which...

2023.12.1 Updated Service Menu and tools for legacy cars

Has anyone with a 2020+ Model S successfully accomplished BMS reset via the service menu? Seems like @geordi tried in his X by unlatching the fireman's loop but it was still a no-go. I am wondering if anyone else has had success.

I replaced my own battery heater

I love home-made ingenuity and resourcefulness, nice job OP. Now, can you please share how you disconnected the first responder loop? I was thinking of doing a BMS reset on my 2020 Model S via the service menu, but that requires the contactors to be open and I believe disconnecting the first...

    Model S Trailer Hitch Installation

I have the x7201 on my 2020 S, and instructions did not say to reinstall the reinforcement bar. However, I frequently move kids in the third row so I did go ahead and reinstall my reinforcement bar (for added protection) and it fit right up without any problems.

Towing motorcycle trailer with coil suspension?

I have been towing with my Tesla this past year. I have a tow truck, but when its unavailable the Tesla is my backup tow vehicle. The only place the hitch scrapes is on my driveway, and my S is lowered with links (air suspension) to start with.

10+ Reasons Why I Love My 2023 Model S vs. My 2022 Model Y Performance

Agree, the widebody of the refresh is very good looking. Even the older S's, if you lower them just right and put nicer wheels on them with the right offset, they look very good. Long, low, quiet, fast - all the right ingredients of a great family sedan.

2023.12.1 Updated Service Menu and tools for legacy cars

What the heck!! I have been doing the urban legend BMS reset ritual to reclaim some "lost" rated miles over past 12 months so this is timely. This BMW reset is now in service menu for 2020 S?? (wife has the car and is out of town so I can't quite check it!) Why the nervousness about trying it...

2020 Model S Trailer wiring question

OK update - I used trial and error and found the left and right turn signal wires. They work consistently. The running light wire remains unconnected, however I am getting running lights consistently. The only issue is brake lights. I found a wire that triggers them but its inconsistent. They...

2020 Model S Trailer wiring question

Trying to setup the 2020 S to tow a lightweight motorcycle trailer to haul a dirt bike. Installed a stealth ecohitch from torkcentral and while their packaging was poor and lot of hardware was missing when arrived, install went without a hitch (ha). I even kept my re-inforcement bar for 3rd row...

Hello, I am trying to enable Sentry mode and interior cameras. 2500 Mile Road Trip Report

Great report OP, thanks for sharing. I live in DFW area and frequently drive to Houston. Keep in mind the winds are a major factor near Houston. There is almost always a 12-15 mph headwind as you head south towards Houston and that same wind becomes a tailwind on your way back.

    Floor Mats Again

I got these "car mats customs" mats recently. $150 for pair of fronts. Fitment and coverage are excellent. Definitely will not be as durable as weathertechs or spiders but changes it up for a bit. P.S: I take no accountability for what's playing on radio, its my wife's car! :p

2021 Model Year Refresh: Owners' Thoughts?

I am trying to understand the discussion and emotions surrounding it - sitting in your car in the garage or driveway and playing cutting edge video games is a thing? And that is better than a game console in the house because?

2021 Model Year Refresh: Owners' Thoughts?

    EVOFFER power frunk on 2020 Model S - what a no-brainer

Once you get past how a $100k car doesn't come with a power frunk (glad they fixed this with the refresh cars) and you buy the EVOFFER kit, its only upside from there. I have no affiliation with Evoffer, paid full price and and there are other kits out there too. Well thought out kit and makes...

2021 Model Year Refresh: Owners' Thoughts?

All this talk about screens in the refresh is great, but what about 3rd row compatibility people!! One of the big hidden gem features of the pre refresh Model S is factory third row. Do those station wagon jump seats still fit the refresh cars??? (someone lie to me and please say yes)

2020 Model S with BMW wheels including range impact

My CS ran 265 front on a 19 inch wheel and 285 rear on a 20 inch wheel. The 763M wheels look pretty awesome. Refresh cars with wider track should definitely get the 763 and they are even lighter than the 437s!

Does Tesla lowball you to trade in your Tesla?

There is a reason carvana is very rapidly going out of business. If I am trading in an S for another S/X and the transaction value is high, its a wash between tesla offer and carmax offer once you factor in sales tax savings.

Lucid Air Grand Touring vs Tesla Model S Plaid.

Nice write-up OP. Any new EV is a good step forward and Lucid looks like a good looking car. As someone said above, the decision to go trunk instead of hatch is a deal breaker for me as well. A hatch makes a sedan so much more useful (dogs, cargo etc.) that I don't see myself ever going back to...

2020 Model S with BMW wheels including range impact

2020 Model S with BMW wheels including range impact

Precisely. The whole catalog of BMW M wheels opens up many inexpensive options for Model S guys like us: I have always liked the 437Ms, their offset is pretty close to stock Model S 19 offset (in fact, slightly better in my opinion). For the refresh cars with wider track, I would suggest 12 or...
