Cool carplay accessory model X legacy

@Drrobmiller, thanks for the info. I sporadically consider stuff like this but have never acted on trying one out. My primary interest is that voice commands to text and make calls has never worked well in my legacy X. And way too much scrolling and pressing the wheel. And not being able to...

Cool carplay accessory model X legacy

Can you tell a little more about your experience with wiring it and its use? Do you still have your phone connected by Bluetooth to the Tesla screen or only to the CarPlay?

Good deal? Possible new Tesla owner here

Tires tend not to have a very long life on the model X and are pretty pricey. Be sure you have considered the cost of new ones. It would also give me pause of why the wheels have a lot of curb rash. Mine at 90,000 miles have essentially none.

Stuck on 2024.8.4 in my 2022 MX Plaid w/FSD

I think you mean 2024.14.8, but vast majority of those are still coming from 2024.14.6 and 2024.14.7. The article you linked to had a possible explanation of why it has seemed like those of us with FSD subscription or purchased are disproportionately being held back at FSD V11…. Because FSD...

I am also stuck on 2024.8.4 in my 2023 model S. I have paid for FSD and 66 days since any update. I have been watching the details of 2024.8.4 on Teslafi. Indeed, very few cars on it, and a perplexing mix of all models and a wide span of years. Feels like being a part of the placebo group in a...

@mouldsj, why not carry a keycard as a backup? It is less bulky than a fob.

Should I buy used MX 2016 P90D Founder series with expired warranty?

@azncaboiz, what do you find appealing about this car? I love my Teslas, which include a 2017 model X. But I would be slow to suggest an 8 year old Tesla with 117,000 miles as someone’s first.

Fix 2017 Model X suspension issues, or trade in for a new Y?

They first offered FSD transfer 3rd quarter last year. They skipped 4th quarter then brought it back 1st quarter of this year. I have expected they may make the transfer semi-permanent, maybe with an age limit of those who bought before a certain date. One of the reasons I believe this is that...

Fix 2017 Model X suspension issues, or trade in for a new Y?

@allie0610, I am one to keep cars forever. But in your case I would lean towards it being time to get a new model Y. They have great prices, especially if you qualify for the tax credit, and a low finance rate right now. You have enough going on and don’t need the hassle and uncertainty of...

    2021 40k mile Model X LR+ w/HW3 & Autopilot ($60k) or 2023 6k mile Model Y with HW4 & FSD included ($47k)?

Neither of those seem like particularly good deals. If you qualify for the tax credit, you can get a new model X for$71k. Or a new model Y for $41k. Or even better there are inventory model Y’s for less, plus 0.99% financing.

    Rebooting does not work

What do you mean by the car was turned off? Sometimes the reboot takes quite awhile — how long are you holding the scroll wheels? Another way to reboot is reset the wheels in the service menu.

parallel universe: assume $ is not an issue (gas, payments, etc.), would you still insist driving MX/MXP SUV over say BMW X7 SUV 100% fully optioned ?

I don’t have any built by Tesla qualms. Like @Sandiegodoug I have a 7 year old model X that is still amazing. Everything works and looks great and because of OTA updates I think it stands up to the test of time better than other manufacturers.

parallel universe: assume $ is not an issue (gas, payments, etc.), would you still insist driving MX/MXP SUV over say BMW X7 SUV 100% fully optioned ?

@ev919, I have never owned a BMW and never had a BMW on my potential purchase list. So I guess this thread isn’t meant for me. But just on the surface, the looks of that BMW holds no more appeal to me than a PT Cruiser. And it is a gas car? I will never go back to pumping gas.

How long between FSD computer update and download of version 12

I don’t think getting the FSD computer will do anything to hasten getting V12 vs V11. V12 is currently the 2024.3 branch. Many people are on the 2024.8 branch with FSD 11.4.9 and waiting for V12 to catch up. What software version are you on?

    Autopark Model 3 & Y vs Model S & X

I haven’t specifically compared autopark features, but I totally agree that Tesla has not utilized the larger/more screen space well on the refreshed S/X. It baffles me that we don’t have simple things like the tire pressure and trip cards like in the 3/Y, or even better yet, that info on the IC...

2017 X 100D. What is a degradation level that will trigger a battery replacement ?

@Marcboy I have never heard of any battery getting replaced due to degradation. The HV battery does get replaced for some, but it is due to other failure mechanisms, not battery degradation. I have always thought the 30% degradation number given by Tesla on newer cars is somewhat a red herring -...

    model x 2017 FSD upgrade

MCU2 will give you alternate routes. I fully think that Tesla should have paid for MCU2 updates for cars that purchased FSD since it seems to be necessary hardware. But it’s not a hill that I am willing to die on and for me, I am really glad that I just got the MCU2 update as soon as it was...

    2020 Model X LR+ w/FSD 40k miles for $48k - yes or no?

No it does not. The turn signal does not bring up the side camera view on my 2017 model X (with MCU2.) I believe this feature was never added for any of the vertical screen cars. I have wondered why not. It is indeed at the top of my list for things that this legacy car is missing.

@billionaiire, I don’t know why you are getting such negative responses and very little content in the responses. Thinking of trading 2018 M3 LWD for 2018 MX 100D with FSD

It can have FSD capability listed as a spec on the car without having the ability to download FSD Beta because of MCU1. Statistically, a 2018 is more likely to have MCU2 tho.

Thinking of trading 2018 M3 LWD for 2018 MX 100D with FSD

You would want to know if it has MCU1 or MCU2. Builds before April 2018 had MCU1 but it could have been upgraded to MCU2 for about $2500. I have essentially your currently model 3 and this model X (mine is late 2017, very similar to 2018). I love the model X but it has always felt much more...

@Odysseus007, wow that is a long list of things. I also have a late 2017 100D, 7 seater, black. Like @scottf200, first thing I wonder about is your MCU status. If it is MCU1 did it have eMMC chip replaced, or even better, has it been upgraded to MCU2? My car often had a wide array of varying...

Wiki FSD’s Earliest Adopters Still Waiting

I thought interior cameras were introduced with the 2021/2022-ish refresh. If so, all vertical screens are missing interior cameras and are referred to as legacy by Tesla. I believe the vertical screen and the lack of interior cameras could delay the roll out to us. For example, no interior...

Teslafi clearly shows FSD12 only on 2023.* versions. Wiki FSD’s Earliest Adopters Still Waiting

No. Tesla refers to all vertical screen cars as legacy. There are many vertical screen model S and X’s that came with the FSD computer and many more that didn’t need the exterior cameras upgraded. Many legacy S/X’s needed no hardware updates for FSD. My 2017 model X with MCU2 and originally...
