Ultra Red: What Made You Pay Premium For It?

I got black on my 2019 because it was free at the time. Liked the look, hated the upkeep. I'm really glad that gray is now the standard color, as that would have been my first choice anyway. I'm surprised it's the free option since it's a multi-stage metallic. I will say that for the past...

Review of my 2024 Tesla M3 RWD after approx 2 weeks

Congrats, I'm happy you're happy! You'll probably be more satisfied overall that you waited until 2024 refresh to pick one up. Much nicer car than the older ones--which were great in some ways and not-so-great in others. I just picked up my 2024 a couple days ago :)

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

I don't think anyone has tried swapping all the bits yet, though a few people are working on spring and damper swaps. Definitely worth experimenting with the new 24+ suspension arms/bushings if a few hundred dollars on parts and the time spent tinkering doesn't bother you. I don't know to what...

Highland suspension on 2019 Model 3

I would go ahead and install it. Get the 3 top hat studs through the holes and loosely install the the 3 nuts. Then wiggle the bottom into place and intstall the bottom bolt. Then torque down the top nuts. It will straighten out.

I'm considering going that route as well 🤔

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

I disagree with this statement. I ran three different suspension setups on my 2019 3, all known for their "comfort" design. It still never rode like a civilized car and NEVER fixed the awful road harshness transmission into the cabin. The suspension is just a part of the whole package that...

Is the new Model 3 “Highland” sufficiently different to warrant its on Forum?

Another vote for "no." They should be in the same forum.

    Model 3 highland build quality

My highland is brand new, only 143 miles so far, just picked it up yesterday :) I know it takes time, abuse, potholes, temperature fluctuations, etc. for the creaks and rattles to really set in, so all I can give you is an initial impression. No squeaks or rattles to speak of so far. Ride...

Stalk or no stalk argument [not] settled

There were technically two turns involved in the overall maneuver, a left and a right, so no, not really. And the other car wasn't at the intersection when I started going, so I didn't think of signaling. I would guess that most people don't signal their moves in a parking environment--the...

Stalk or no stalk argument [not] settled

1/4 mile out of the dealer parking lot and I ran into my first indicator "fail." I was in the Chik fil A parking lot trying to pull out onto the feeder road and someone was coming out of the Five Guys parking lot across from me. I needed to signal my intent to the other driver (who was...

    Tein EnduraPro Plus - Review

A little better than my old 3 with the Teins dialed to be pretty soft. Competent, but not super sporty. A good balance for a daily driver. I think the softer Highland setup with some aftermarket swaybars would be the ticket for someone looking for the best balance of ride and handling. I...

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

As one of the people saying the S feels boaty (maybe not the best description) I'll respond to this. I agree with all the points you make. I carved up my favorite local canyons at Mach Stupid speeds in the S and it did impress in terms of sheer capability. What it really comes down to for me...

Stalk or no stalk argument [not] settled

I'm picking up my new Highland today. I'm firmly in the "stalks not buttons" camp (more so for the turn signals, the screen gear select seems to work OK) so I'll check back in in a month or so and let you know how I feel :o

    Sorry I didn't see you...

I've been in some cars with massive A-pillar blind spots, but I don't think Acura falls into that category. Probably on the phone checking their X feed. :edit: maybe because you're downhill of them, you were behind the mirror from their vantage point.

Mockup of Screen with No Map, Visualization

I've certainly never shipped my own car to Europe and tried driving around in narrow alleyways :D I've only driven tiny econoboxes abroad.

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

2020 LR+ I just never bonded with the S. The ride and road-holding ability are good, but handling (steering feel and input) are poor. The steering wheel is an inch or more physically larger and the steering ratio is slow and ponderous with pretty much zero feedback. You can also really feel...

    Tein EnduraPro Plus - Review

You could try sourcing some highland dampers for the rear. Might be more comparable in ride to the teins.

Mockup of Screen with No Map, Visualization

I've never folded my mirrors except when going through the carwash (that likes to beat them forward). I always thought folding mirrors when you park was a gimmick. I'd rather someone swing their door into my mirror than my door or fender 🤷‍♂️

Mockup of Screen with No Map, Visualization

I'd get rid of the animation on the right side of the screen and just to a full-sized map 24/7 except when I'm reversing.

    reliability

I agree with everything about this statement except the rattles comment. I owned my 2019 M3 SR+ for 5 years and 100k miles and it was far and away the most reliable car I ever owned. I replaced tires and the 12v battery. That's it. 2 months after selling to switch to a Model S, I already...

Daily Driver - Model 3 LR vs P?

I'm in a similar boat. Right now the M3LR and the M3P are almost the exact same price with tax credits. I know the LR is the better car for my needs (comfy commuting) but the fact I can get a Performance for the same price has me getting a little irrational. The Performance is a lot of fun...

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

Sorry for cross posting with the 18" wheel thread, but can anyone confirm whether the brake size changed between 2023 and 2024 highland performance 3? Deciding between a LR and a Performance and the ability to run 18" wheels will be a factor in the decision. Again, sorry if I missed it, but...

Will 18" Aero wheel fit a car with Performance big brakes?

Also bumping this thread to see if anyone knows if the brake dimensions changed between the earlier M3P and the 2024 Highland M3P, or if the list of wheels on the first page still applies. Deciding between LR and Performance since the price is basically the same with tax credit, but the...

    Smaller Steering Wheel?

I did consider that, but it would be hard to integrate the steering wheel controls for volume, etc. :p
  30. H

Plaid S or Highland Model 3 Performance

Having driven a 2023 and a 2024 back to back, I strongly disagree with this statement. I think the improvements to the highland are well excecuted, exactly what the car needed and enhance the quality quite a bit. 2024 M3P has adaptive dampers and traditional coil springs, which is fine. Air...

Plaid S or Highland Model 3 Performance

No doubt in my mind the 3 is more fun to drive. A little slower, a lot less refined (although highland upgrades make it less of a POS than the old one). If you're looking for a more rounded sense of "fun to drive" I think the M3P is the right choice. I recently sold my 3 and I'm thinking of...

    Smaller Steering Wheel?

I know this is a longshot, but I figured I'd ask. I've got a 2020 Model S long range (owned for a little over a month now). I would love to install a smaller diameter steering wheel on it. I'm coming from a Model 3, and I found that steering wheel to be the perfect size (both smaller diameter...

Not a refresh, but my 2020 LR has a vibration under medium acceleration.

Is the Model S worth it over the Highland M3?

I owned my 2019 model 3 for 5 years and put about 100k miles on it. It was time for a replacement due to the glaring "low quality"ness of the interior, truly heinous suspension, NVH, etc. Rattled like an '85 dodge omni. All this basically made it too embarrassing to use for work (which...

Let's see your white Model S

Reviving this old thread to see if anyone has suggestions on the best vinyl wrap color to match the white on a 2020 Model S. I want to do a chrome delete, but I think I'd like to do black around the windows and mirrors, then match the white paint color on the door handles and trim under the...

Do you hand wash or car wash your Tesla?

My car has 96k miles, I'm the original owner, and it's never gotten a "real" carwash or detail in it's whole life. Just drive through carwashes (with brushes). I generally don't pay attention to the condition of my paint and only wash when I'm meeting a client. I just took a close look...

M3 Highland - Demo Drive Thoughts

Doug Demuro is a crack-head, but his videos are informative. Especially the "quirks and features" segment is really the closest thing to checking out a car in real life that you can do on the internet. I've used it a lot in preliminary shopping/research. You just have to know how to cut...

Trading in your Tesla? Be sure to factory reset! I didn't....

I just bought a used Model S from a dealership. My wife told me to ask it to "navigate home." Now I know where the PO lives! I'm going to stalk him if the car gives me trouble, lol.

Should I keep or trade in my 2018 Tesla P3D for either a Model S (or when available a Highland Model 3)?

After driving the BMW i4 and the new Highland model 3, I just pulled the trigger on a used Model S long range. I was really only half-way looking as I had planned to keep my 2019 a couple more years, but this Model S was a great deal, black interior (my fave) and just felt so upscale and...

    Tein EnduraPro Plus - Review

No, that's not normal, but it's probably also not hurting anything. When I installed the shocks the first time, I installed the rear dust boot upside down and the bump stop was riding pretty loose in there. I re-installed with the dust boot in the correct configuration at the top of the shock...

    Tein EnduraPro Plus - Review

I get a clicking noise from my fronts, not the back. Only at low speed over light road imperfections. I never figured out what it was and I still have it. It happened when I adjusted the shocks softer. Noise was not present at 8 clicks, but became noticeable around 12-14 clicks. :edit: I...

What makes a car "fun to drive"?

I grew up around autocross and HPDE. Done many track days in a variety of cars, mine and others'. i have driven all sorts of sports cars, model S plaid, owned some heavy hitters like the supra turbo, driven custom built racecars and a nascar on the track, my buddy's home made "ariel atom"...

I bet these shocks would ride really nice with a good dual-rate or progressive aftermarket spring. I just never bothered because I don't want to lower my ground clearance.

Highland suspension on 2019 Model 3

I'm trying to get a couple more years out of my 2019 before splurging on a new car. But yeah, I test drove the highland and also a BMW i4. Both were night and day improvements over my 2019 ride quality.
  47. H

Highland suspension on 2019 Model 3

If I can get my hands on *confirmed* 2024 suspension parts for a reasonable price, I'll be the guinea pig. I've already changed out my suspension 3 times in pursuit of a better ride, and my recent highland test drive confirms, that is the ride I want! Looking for used highland suspension has...

Should I keep or trade in my 2018 Tesla P3D for either a Model S (or when available a Highland Model 3)?

Recently drove the highland model 3 and just drove the BMW i4. The BMW will cost a bit more, but it's worth considering if you're not set on a Tesla for supercharging or specific tech needs. The BMW rides like the highland, but handles much better with steering response more akin to the older...

    Trains displayed as trucks

This. I remember back in 2019 or 2020 when they shrunk the map to make the animation larger. I was so pissed I almost sold the car, lol. That was early in my ownership before I got used to over the air updates occasionally being horrendous, but usually harmless and sometimes helpful. If I...

    Tein EnduraPro Plus - Review

Yes, I just drove a new highland last week. I'd rank it like this in terms of ride quality: Highland>>>>>>>>>>>>teins>MPP comfort non-adjustable>>>>stock The 2024 suspension really is where it's at for ride comfort. I'm sure the revised bushings and subframe mounting hardware help a lot in...
