Master Thread: Definitive 14-50 NEMA Outlet Guide

The plug blade contacts shown in the above photos of the apparent Hubbell RR450FW do not look like they are brass. If they are steel, that could mean higher resistance and heat generation.

The map directions are wrong—way wrong—for 2411 Pawtucket Pass, Mount Dora, FL 32757. Google Maps is correct, so this is a safety issue.

Since there are now aftermarket stalk kits available, someone who prefers stalks or is not sure may want to look into that (with consideration of the cost of the aftermarket stalk kits).

LFP vs NCA database of Wh/m for Model 3 SR+ and others possibly starting May 2024

Apparently, Tesla Model 3 drivers reporting to Recurrent average 28% worse efficiency (39% greater consumption) than the EPA drivers / test. (Not LFP, since LFP is too new, but effects of driving habits should be similar.)...

Recurrent: Model 3 drivers got 72% of EPA range with new cars, 64% after three years

https://www.recurrentauto.com/research/how-long-do-ev-batteries-last Study says that Tesla Model 3 drivers reporting to Recurrent were getting about 72% of EPA range with new cars, 64% after three years. 72->64 is about 12% loss, which is apparently considered fairly typical for NCA batteries...

Model 3 SR+ LFP Battery Range, Degradation, etc Discussion

At less than 2,000 miles per year, perhaps the car spent a lot of time parked at a high state of charge (>55% for an NCA battery like a 2019 SR+ has)? I.e. if the customer habitually charged it every day to 80% and drove <10 miles per day so that the car normally does not get below about 75%...

FSD needs to learn how to read signs

At L3, the Mercedes-Benz Drive Pilot does not require constant supervision (like L2), but can require a human driver to take over at any time when it detects an upcoming situation beyond its ability (one example for this system is a construction zone).

Highland SR not using LFP battery, or VIN code change?

Looked at the VIN of my 2022 Model 3 base with LFP battery. The seventh character is E.

Highland SR not using LFP battery, or VIN code change?

    | Tesla says that E = Li-Ion Battery and F = Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery. However, a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery is a type of Li-Ion battery, so either E or F could be literally correct for an LFP battery.

How many service visits in 6 months of ownership is too many before asking for a buyback

That would not be unusual. Bypassing the lemon law(suit) process when repurchasing a "lemon" vehicle costs less than going through the lemon law(suit) process where lawyers also get paid. So if the car falls under the state lemon law, the vehicle company has some incentive to make a repurchase...

LFP vs NCA database of Wh/m for Model 3 SR+ and others possibly starting May 2024

Tips for good efficiency and range when driving: When buying a Model 3, note that 18" wheels are more efficient than 19" wheels or 20" wheels. With 18" wheels, use the aero covers, at least on the highway. Consider rolling resistance when choosing tires. Higher highway speeds consume more...

LFP vs NCA database of Wh/m for Model 3 SR+ and others possibly starting May 2024

You can go to the service screen and select wheels and tires to tell the car that 19" wheels are installed. However, the tire type is only "all season / summer" or "winter", so there would not be a distinction in rolling resistance between various all season and summer tires that the car can...

LFP vs NCA database of Wh/m for Model 3 SR+ and others possibly starting May 2024

Lifetime average of 219 Wh/mile. About half of driving is with stuff on the roof rack. With only the empty rack, looks like about 190-200 Wh/mile. This is a 2022 car with LFP battery (60.5 kWh when new, 56.9 kWh now after 2.3 years according to Scan My Tesla) and 18" wheels and original...

LFP vs NCA database of Wh/m for Model 3 SR+ and others possibly starting May 2024

19" wheels with OEM tires are less economical than 18" wheels with OEM tires. Non-OEM tires that are not low rolling resistance (that OEM tires are commonly chosen for) could cause an additional penalty. Also, 272-273 miles is the US EPA rated range for the 2022+ LFP battery with nominal new...

    NEW Model 3 Highland review!

It is hardly new. In the late 1990s, some Japan-based car companies, feeling exchange rate pressures, cut costs to the point that some of the redesigned models were worse than their predecessors. More recently, there were some cars in the recession era that were widely seen as downgrades from...

LFP battery - how often is too often to charge?

If you are really concerned about worse battery degradation over time at high state of charge, it may be better to keep it under 70% most of the time, but charge it to 100% occasionally to keep the BMS in sync with the actual state of charge. However, this may matter less for LFP batteries than...

Page 15 of the instructions at https://www.tesla.com/sites/default/files/downloads/model-3-roof-rack-owners-manual-en-us.pdf says to remove the rack before going through an automated car wash. This is the Model 3 roof rack instructions, but the Model Y roof rack is similar.

All US Cars capable of FSD will be enabled for one month trial this week

Based on what I saw of the one month trial of FSDS, the "good" drivers who trained the system are not that good. Would a Performance with 18" aero wheels (e.g. FastEV EV01+) and LRR tires be like a LR in economy and range?

Under inflation tends to result in excess wear on the outside edges of the tyres. It also results in higher energy consumption while driving.

All US Cars capable of FSD will be enabled for one month trial this week

Regarding no right turn on red... In some states like California, a red right arrow means no right turn on red (although many drivers apparently do not know that). In some other states, a red right arrow does not prohibit right turn on red after stopping. Did FSDS correctly interpret red...

USA MY RWD has soft limited LR battery!

Did they ever advertise specific charging rates? Seems that as long as a recharge from 10-60% takes 15-20 minutes or less, there may not be too much complaining.
  44. 3

The few times Tesla has addressed battery degradation, they have simply lied and dismissed it.

The miles at the top of the screen are a measure of remaining battery capacity. That number can be useful for tracking capacity loss over time. Note that this is different from most other EVs where the miles number adjusts based on recent economy. On Tesla cars, this "guess-o-meter" miles is...

    Link ABRP to Tesla map

For longer distance trips, ABRP defaults to fastest trip which can give a different set of stops and charge levels (typically something like 10% to 50-60% to stay in the fastest charging range) than the Tesla trip planner which favors fewer stops to charge to higher state of charge (but charging...
