    Cabin Overheat Protection - Necessary?

That's one thing I really like about the Fisker Ocean. It's pretty cool having the solar panel roof up there, IMO. That's also something I like about the Aptera (if that ever enters production), though in that case they're not putting it on a window/glass.

    Cabin Overheat Protection - Necessary?

I agree that it's not going to be comfortable sitting in a ~100F car, but then what is it good for? :)

    Cabin Overheat Protection - Necessary?

If overheat protection was about protecting the interior materials of the car, then it would have options to set it much higher than 100F. 100F is nothing to a vehicle interior, and maintaining the cabin at that temperature just out of concern of material degradation is silly. Here is a thread I...

    Cabin Overheat Protection - Necessary?

The way I think about it is this: we've been using cars for over 100 years now and Teslas are the first to offer cabin overheat protection. Even most contemporary cars for sale don't have any sort of cabin overheating protection (especially ICE vehicles) even though they have just as much...

Do Not Buy “HEPA” Cabin Air Filters for Model 3

I wonder if you could use duct tape (or similar) on the bottom edge of the filter to do the same thing with less worry about the clip falling off.

    Off-peak Hours confusion…

Good question (and this is why I'm glad I don't have to use the Tesla app to schedule my charging). I'm not sure why Tesla don't have an off-peak start time configurable in addition to the end time. Personally, my peak hours are 4-9pm, but there's no way to tell that to Tesla. Anyway...yeah, I'd...

    $235 for cabin filter replacement?

The 2018 is the "original" design of the HVAC system/door holding the filters in and it's more annoying than later years (I'm not sure when they switched, but it was either before or at the time of the "2021" refresh). Still, $235 is way more than I'd want to pay for such a simple job. I have...

Stalk or no stalk argument [not] settled

Almost instantaneously once a car falls into water, a door release is going to do no good. The pressure keeping the door closed is massive as the car sinks. You need to IMMEDIATELY roll your window down. I wouldn't even bother trying the door unless the water isn't deep enough to submerge the...

    New here. Driving Efficiency Question

Yes, I'm talking about when one must slow down and has to choose between regen or traditional brakes. I believe you are incorrect about where the regen power comes from in a dual motor configuration, though. Most braking force in a traditional scenario is applied by the front brakes. That is why...

    New here. Driving Efficiency Question

I think the braking advice is key for someone coming from an ICE vehicle. The regen in the RWD cars is not as strong because there's no front motor to contribute to regen, too. That said, any use of the mechanical brakes is waste. Instead of putting energy back in your battery, you're making...

You didn't watch the Bjorn Nyland video, did you? He showed the safety issue and demonstrated why it's a problem very clearly.

They could save even more money by removing the rear seats. Why don't they do that, too?

Stalk or no stalk argument [not] settled

Putting turn signals in the wheel isn't free, either, particularly if you're going to include things like the cost to design it. It's not like there's no software, design, or engineering work involved with buttons on the steering wheel. IMO, the cost saved per vehicle is probably only a few bucks.

Wireless charging of smartphone is slow

The wireless chargers don't work very well, and it's not just in the Model 3 or even Teslas. If you have an iPhone with MagSafe and really want to charge your phone wirelessly while driving, pick up something like this: Amazon.com

Stalk or no stalk argument [not] settled

Bjorn said it best: "Shiiiit man, get the stalks back! I don't know what Tesla is trying to do, but they want to cut cost, fine, but there is some stuff you don't wanna mess with." The stalk-less design is less functional, and it involves a critical safety component. I will not buy a new Tesla...

Will wipers on -> headlights on ever happen?

Yup...it happened. I'm glad to see it, because it's very distracting to access and manipulate the headlight controls while driving, and it's not always "dark" when you need to use the wipers.

Lane Assist Only Works with Autopilot

If you want to manually control speed while using lane-keep assistance (Autopilot), you can do so by setting the Autopilot speed to something below the slowest speed of traffic you will likely encounter. Then just use the accelerator to actually control your speed above that set point. What you...

Do Not Buy “HEPA” Cabin Air Filters for Model 3

I've had no problems with the Temai (now Vion) "HEPA N98" filters. I'm on my second set in the car and have no complaints. They seem to be good quality and I like that they include the necessary tools and instructions in the package. They definitely haven't fallen apart. With that said, I don't...

Antifungal spray for cabin air filter

Yikes, those are extremely rough. Anyway, there are intake protectors sold on sites like Amazon, but you have to be careful about restricting airflow too much and hurting the performance (and probably lifespan) of your HVAC system.

    Can Auto Wipers Learn?

I don't believe there's any "learning" taking place with the automatic wipers. It's just inconsistent behavior. It seems that Tesla have given up trying to improve them, too, since I haven't seen any notable change (improvement) in their behavior since I got my car at the end of 2020. I think...

    Off-peak Hours confusion…

I do this through my charging equipment (EVSE). If you're able to set up a permanently-mounted charger that supports scheduling, it's super easy. I just tell my charger to turn on at 9pm (when my peak rates end) and turn off at 4pm (when my peak rates begin). I don't do any scheduling from my...

Confirmed that MCU3 (Ryzen) in 3/Y does NOT have a discrete GPU?

It would be possible to disable the dGPU when not gaming, but it is extremely wasteful to put a dGPU in a car that would only require it for gaming.

Repeater camera issues. Blinkers seen on screen when flashing.

There's no way to fix the issue in firmware. It's possible that they can write some code to decrease the visible impact, but this is a hardware issue. It's "normal" because it was a design flaw, as mentioned, on all the Model 3s produced up through maybe a year ago.

    Filling tires using 12v

I always connect the power first, then screw the hose on, then turn the pump on. I also keep my driver and/or passenger door ajar while inflating the tires because the power cable has to run out of one or the other anyway. I would think that would prevent the car from sleeping. My process is...

    Filling tires using 12v

Yes, it's still working great for me. Just a few weeks ago, I topped off all four tires in one go and had no issues with the pump whatsoever (it does get hot, though). It sounds like the pump was tripping the virtual breaker on your 12v for some reason. I wonder why your car's breaker would...

Keeping an Infrequently Driven LFP Happy

I have an LFP home battery and they're set up to charge all the way to 100% as often as my solar panels can do it (basically every day unless it's cloudy all day). Even once they hit 100% SoC, they draw 100w, so my battery manufacturer is definitely not worried about overcharging them. The...

Anyone try the new Turtle Wax Pro Graphene Wax Yet?

I can say that the TW Flex Wax on glass does very well with beading water, just as it does on body panels. And yeah...DON'T over-apply it.

    NEMA14-50 question

Is your total draw on the system 20 amps, or is that 20 amps dedicated to your 14-50 outlet? If 20 amps is for your entire home, I'd be sure to subtract out your household use from that 20 amps. I'm able to use the mobile app to set my charging rate all the way down to 5 amps in 1 amp...

wall charger $400 vs. NEMA installation

This is a recent and very dumb change to the code when it comes to EV charging. All EVSE has built-in GFCI and GFCI at the panel will make it much more likely to trip the breaker for no reason. There are plenty of EVSEs made by companies other than Tesla which mount to the wall, have cord...

wall charger $400 vs. NEMA installation

I like having a plug available (and I have a ChargePoint Flex plugged into it) in case my EVSE dies or I need to use something else for some reason. It's just more flexible and I can reconfigure it easily without rewiring or hiring an electrician to do it. The only downside is that I'm capped at...

    Model 3 microscratches

I wouldn't recommend using any of the brushes at a self car wash. When I used to use them, I brought my own microfiber towels/wash mits and only used the power washer/soap gun from the self-service wash business. Almost every car has tons of tiny scratches all over it, though (except for PPFed...

    Filling tires using 12v

I use a Viair 85p that connects to the cigarette lighter port in the center console. It works great and is super easy. I've used it several times already to balance and top up my tire pressure (I over-inflate and then use a dedicated gauge with bleed valve to bleed down to the precise PSI). I...

    Screen Unresponsive Upon Waking Up

I haven't noticed this problem again since my last post and I just got a new firmware update this week, so hopefully it's resolved. I'm going to keep an eye on it, though, and update here if it continues.

    Screen Unresponsive Upon Waking Up

In the past several weeks, I've had an unresponsive screen issue twice. The screen will display things just fine, but it doesn't respond to touch at all. I can still use the app on my phone to activate features like Homelink, etc. so the issue seems to be isolated to just the touchscreen...

Everything wrong with V11 update / user interface.

Yeah, a lot of manufacturers seem to be running into problems with their UI/UX for various controls. Part of it's definitely the overall trend toward fewer physical buttons (sometimes good, sometimes bad IMO). The other reason for it is the increasing overall complexity and number of...

Anyone try the new Turtle Wax Pro Graphene Wax Yet?

I've applied Turtle Wax Graphene Flex Wax (spray bottle) on my windshield a few times now with great results. You can apply it to any exterior surface, which is what I do. It's everywhere on the outside of my car, no problems. I'm very happy with its performance and ease of maintenance.

Has anyone used a product called "Smart Tint" on a Model 3?

I have not tried that Smart Tint stuff, but I do have sun shades that can clip into the trim around the glass roof areas. As far as I can tell, there is no noticeable difference to heat inside the vehicle. I got them because I have a baby/toddler who was bothered by the sun pouring in through...

Repeater camera issues. Blinkers seen on screen when flashing.

There are three holes in the PCB for older camera revisions which allow light to bleed through it and hit the camera sensor. The fix is, essentially, to block that light transmission from happening. Tesla apparently became aware of it at some point because even with the old holey PCB, they...

Wall Connector or 240V Charger adapter

:) One thing to be aware of for the SR+ is that I believe its L2 charging is limited to 32amps regardless of what EVSE/charger you hook up to, so for that particular car any theoretical higher amperage (>40a) that would be possible with a hard-wired EVSE/Tesla Wall Connector would be wasted, as...

Repeater camera issues. Blinkers seen on screen when flashing.

Both of the side cameras on my 2021 (black trim) have this issue. One was replaced due to a cracked housing (tech thought it was probably over-torqued in the factory) that allowed water infiltration and eventually killed it back in July 2021. I don't particularly like the light from the turn...

Wall Connector or 240V Charger adapter

I went with both. I had a NEMA 14-50 outlet wired in my garage, and I hooked it up to a non-Tesla EVSE (ChargePoint Home Flex). I did that because I don't want to have to worry about swapping out a Tesla Wall Connector or finding some janky Tesla to J1772 adapter later when I buy a non-Tesla EV...

Tesla lowers Model 3 range estimates in Europe due to extra power consumption of AMD Ryzen processor

I highly doubt it. AMD's chips are made by TSMC while Intel make their own Atom chips. Intel actually has plenty of capacity for their Atom chips (which tend to be on older process nodes that are in low demand) while AMD's chips are on high-demand TSMC nodes. This was almost certainly not a...

Unexpected 100% volume since last update?

I was able to resolve my problem somehow, but I'm not quite sure what did it.
