2022 MYP Tires after 68k miles

At 68k miles, no doubt your alignment has changed, as spring/struts break in and relax. When you get new tires, it's customary to have the alignment checked. Ask them NOT to modify the settings, and get a printout from them and post it here.

2022 MYP Tires after 68k miles

It might be interesting to know how your alignment is dialed in. Maybe that's the secret. :) PSI? Kept at 42psi?

2022 MYP Tires after 68k miles

87% highway? I guess that's the secret. 86% or below, and the life of the tire drops dramatically... 🤣 I'm curious. Do you live adjacent to all your "highway" driving? Do you ever punch the throttle, or do you always just idle up to highway speed? Do you routinely travel the speed limit...

Would you Purchase a model Y Again?

I would never buy ANY vehicle that doesn't have a service department reasonably close by. It isn't exclusively a Tesla thing.

A nut size scratch and a nut size dent

What are you talking about? There's nothing anywhere near the trunk button. I don't understand your point. I have a very real complaint about the Homelink setup, since my gate and garage buttons are very close to each other, and initially I would push them in the wrong sequence. My solution...

A nut size scratch and a nut size dent

Disagree. It is unreasonable to open the hatch, or your car's door, w/o understanding how wide it will open.

A nut size scratch and a nut size dent

JDThomas: Thank you for your information about your Subaru. Door lengths, hatch lengths, etc. aren't ever going to be engineered to accommodate every possible scenario. For instance, 2-door car doors are much longer than 4-door car doors. It isn't "poor design." I shopped for minivans 2...

A nut size scratch and a nut size dent

Show me any other SUV that has a different design. It's universal. Tesla provides the ability to modify the opening height.

The external surface of roof and back glass is so “sticky”

On the outside? Doubtful. ALL car manufacturers recommend against rain repellants, in the washer fluid, because of past history of clogging or fouling washer fluid pumps.

    Charging Rates/How to find them

I have free nights, 8:00pm-6:00am. We do laundry, dishwasher, Tesla charge, during those times. We pay a higher rate during daylight hours. The average rate we pay is virtually identical to if we paid a single rate. The ONLY way we would see any difference would be if we turned EVERYTHING off...

    Yearly brake service

When my brakes start squealing while in reverse, first drive of the day, I do the following. Overnight charge to 100%. Early morning, drive to a long downhill (there's one adjacent to my community) that has zero traffic. Accelerate to 55-60, then brake heavily almost until full stop. Loop...

The external surface of roof and back glass is so “sticky”

crunchor: There's nothing unusual about Tesla glass. There must be something on your glass that needs to be removed, and the cleaner you're using obviously isn't working. A qualified auto detail, or body shop, should be able to help you.

    Model Y Tool Kit Suggestions

I haven't carried a set of jumper cables in my car in over 50 years. I maintain my batteries by proactively replacing them BEFORE they fail. I've never had a battery fail: Audi, VW, Ford, Honda, Toyota, Cadillac...and now Tesla.

    Model Y Tool Kit Suggestions

For 40+ years, there hasn't been a whole lot you can do on the side of the road. I've given up thinking I'll be able to fix/adjust/repair anything on a road trip, and just take my chances. Plug kit, spare, jack, breaker bar (129lb-ft...yikes!), inflator, Leatherman-type multitool. That's about...

2021 MYLR Dual Motor: grinding/squeal when shifting into Part

Could you explain how this works, please? I don't believe the friction point, causing the noise, is associated with brake fluid, which is internal.

2021 MYLR Dual Motor: grinding/squeal when shifting into Part

I didn't believe the SC when they said it was normal. They also claimed Tesla isn't the only brand with this issue. Our 2019 Toyota Avalon Hybrid makes the exact same noise. It is normal.

Is there an alternative to Modern Spare?

What do you think other brands' owners do when they get a flat? The vast majority of new cars do NOT have spare tires. Tesla is unusual because it pretends to be able to rescue any Tesla with a flat. This works well in urban areas, assuming the number of requests if low. AAA probably has an...

Is there an alternative to Modern Spare?

Okay, you win. Everything you've stated about hub-centric vs. lug-centric wheels is correct. I've known this for many decades. Okay, I win. This is for temporary use only. Can we stop now, or do I have to leave God-awful Texas and fly to Queenstown to discuss this in person?🍺 Seriously, let's...

Is there an alternative to Modern Spare?

One more time. I'll monitor the situation. When I've ground down the beveled holes in the wheel to the extent that it's measurable, I'll let you know. It might take a decade or so, depending on the frequency (so far, ZERO times in 2 years!)

    PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: Alignment

With a 4WD, 400+hp, 4400lbs vehicle, it's a very wise thing to VISUALLY inspect all 4 tires on a regular basis, regardless of its straight tracking. I'm surprised by the number of posters who come here AFTER thousands of miles of driving with unevenly worn tires, asking for tire warranty...

Is there an alternative to Modern Spare?

What chance? Installed correctly, conical lugnuts (which are used on numerous vehicles as OEM!) will center the wheel properly. I'm not autocrossing, off-roading, driving in excess of 50mph with a spare installed. I'm driving the shortest distance possible to get the tire repaired/replaced.
  29. P

Is there an alternative to Modern Spare?

I've never felt any "grind" when the conical steel nut is centering the alloy wheel. IMO, a non-issue. If I were doing it on a regular basis, maybe an issue, but once? Twice. it's a SPARE tire/wheel, only to be used rarely (or...not at all, since I've not had a flat in 2 years!) I'm not losing...

    Tire/Battery Life in Arizona

I see where this discussion went off track. You are correct that the newer 16v Li-ion battery, with its totally different chemistry, has a different life expectancy. I believe 12V lead-acid to 16v Li-ion change occurred with 2023 model year? Not sure. Based on multiple posts in this forum...

Is there an alternative to Modern Spare?

That's exactly what I did. Unused Vredestein SpaceMaster off a Levante, got lucky: $400. No regrets, everything is tucked nicely in the deep well: HarborFrieght jack, breaker bar, socket, collapsed spare. I just recently secured the wheel/etc. with a ratcheted strap, attaching it to pre-existing...

    Amtrak Auto Train

    Tire/Battery Life in Arizona

For many cars, like you, I've just waited until failure to replace failed batteries, occurring anywhere between 3 and 8 years, various brands of cars and batteries. QTownTaxiGreg: "I gather the lifting puck hole is a fair way in under so an extended handle for the jack so you can wind it from afar seems a good idea." Nope. The "lifting puck" jack placement is right under the door sill. No extended handle needed. Scissor jack? For a 4600lb vehicle? Nope...

    Tire/Battery Life in Arizona

weiner-bus: I've seen this map at Ford dealers, Firestone dealers, and elsewhere. It's based on averages. Modern cars give no indication of a weak battery, so it's impossible to tell when it's going to fail. Quality control of battery manufacture is inconsistent. I prefer to proactively...

Strange sound during regen braking and feels like brakes are catching and releasing at speeds between >20mph. Randomly started yesterday. Ideas?

Hojoooo: 80 k miles, and you rarely use my brakes? Have you done a visual check? Since EVs don't use the hydraulic brakes very much, it's possible there's enough oxidation on the rotors to cause this problem. If you see a lot of discoloration, I'd ask Tesla about doing what I think they call...

Anyone else having issue with rear quarter glass exploding?

ssumit: Statistics? infinitesimally small number. Considering the gazillion cars being manufactured, it's surprising that defective glass doesn't show up more often. IMHO, it's similar to aircraft "failures." Considering the millions of miles flown, failures are exceptionally rare. Of course...
