Where's my midgate? 😃 The Silverado is looking better every day, not to mention it's roughly the same cost!

Class action for Model S drive unit failure?

That solves for a bigger problem but misses the root cause. In my case, I did as you suggested but to my surprise, no coolant drained from my inverter drain. Only after dropping the ldu and pulling the stator cover did I see that my windings were bathing in an inch of liquid. My inverter is...

    DIY Tesla Drive Unit Repair

Thanks @asavage for some tips that helped and also kept my attitude positive. Even though my stator windings were irreparable, my salvage ldu is in good shape. Just finished installing the qc bypass to keep it that way. Car drives like new! My inverter and gear box are still good, in case...

    Under the skin

I am right there with you. Part of me is waiting for "cbt v2" with all the lessons learned fixed... somehow I think this run of "trucks" is one and done. Tesla will either double down or abandon this experiment.

Thoughts about selling a clean title car with battery issues at a salvage auction?

This thread brings back nostalgia from back in the day... does this car have halogen headlights by chance?

    DIY Tesla Drive Unit Repair

So.. just bought a salvage reman Rev q ldu to replace my utterly damaged non reman Rev q ldu. The reman one is clean , but I noticed this one had a hole in the speed sensor area where the non reman Rev q does not. What's that all about?

    DIY Tesla Drive Unit Repair

Good luck! I dropped the whole motor before performing the coolant delete and pulled it apart and a surprising amount of brown mucky liquid drained out. 😥

    DIY Tesla Drive Unit Repair

Thanks again, was able to follow your suggestion and managed to test the resistance. Inverter Checks out fine, but the stator - oh boy is that shot. Pulled it apart and it was flooded :(

    DIY Tesla Drive Unit Repair

Thanks for the tip - I'll give that a go since what you did is exactly what I am tying to accomplish - test the stator resistance while disconnected from the inverter.

    DIY Tesla Drive Unit Repair

Sadly, I'm all too familiar with the HVIL loop diagrams :) But I do thank you for the hope on the stator windings - If it were crystalized coolant, I'd expect to see some resistance, I'm registering a dead short (less than 2 ohms yikes!). [using AMPROBE AMB-25 Mega-ohmeter set to 500V] But...

    DIY Tesla Drive Unit Repair

Incredibly stupid question - in the middle of a rebuild due to HVIL fault on a Rev Q Unit installed by Tesla. Thought I found my culprit - as I had low impedance between ground and B+ on the input lead (~400Kohm vs > 2Mohm). Replaced the B+/B- harness and impedance checks out. No sign of...

I am frankly shocked by how stunningly ugly the Cybertruck is

Not a hater, but.. I think it would look better as a CyberVan. The front has a nice aesthetic going on - modern, futuristic, big glass. That appeal starts to fall apart when you look past the front passenger doors and glance by the truck bed. It's like they started at the front, got half...

Air suspension not working, sporadic errors.

Finding your post saved me - I filled up my reservoir tank with 140PSI and got my cars ass off the ground high enough to jack it. Thanks for the hint!

Is buying a 2013 Tesla S Performance with 225,000 miles worth buying at $11,000 and the possible issues?

11k is a bit steep. But if you're willing to do the coolant bypass to the motor, and the battery is in good shape, go for it!

Switching from BMW X7 to CyberTruck

OP: It's clear to me at least, that the MB EQS or Rivian SUV are a better all around fit for your person capacity as well as luxury requirements. I could not imagine a car that is a bigger mismatch for you than the CT.

Model S Technical / Mechanical Issues

Exactly - Forget about the service texts. My car is not even on file with the local SC. I went in to for a scheduled appointment - and they were like "why are you here?" - they did not see the appointment I made with the app. Worse, they had no record of my car existing in my account until I...

    Car died. BMS errors f123, w123, w073, w035, w142, w158

Might be coolant in the drive unit - checkout the LDU seal fail thread. Either way, not a great scenario.
  22. Hank42

My 12V battery & high voltage battery pack died on the same day at the same damn time?

It sounds like bad luck right? The 12V needs a constant supply from the DCDC converter driven off the main pack to survive. If there is a HV isolation fault - from the drivetrain, or main battery, or coolant heater, the power to the 12V is cut off and the MCU and other 12V systems draws thier...

TESLA MODEL S stopped working... CAR MAY NOT RESTART

I just tried sending the above 0x602 CAN message to clear a HVIL fault after replacing my coolant heater to bus3 on 2012 MS (low resistance from and to b+ on the connector). Code did not clear, but I got a BMS_f011_HW_Illegal_ctr_Req back - I'm guessing my CAN message is corrupt somehow?

Color-coding locations on the supercharge.info map between V1, V2 and V3 superchargers (versus just a red dot)

Necroing an old thread, but it would be useful for the filters to be more specific - for example, I want to filter out V3 chargers, but can't because >150KW includes the V3's... How about a <250KW and <150KW option, or just multiselects?

    Model S Software/Firmware wishlist

In 2014 they released that and removed it a short time later. It worked well. It might be baked in under the covers now, with no user adjustment, but rather automatic. Would be interesting to test it with a meter.

Cybertruck Steer By Wire Safety Concerns and Details

Say what you will about Tesla's iterative approach to cost reduction, but they tend to go in the opposite direction when launching a new (unproven)technology - they go a little overkill in the engineering aspects to bolster confidence in the beginning. I would probably be a little more...

Original 2012 S Owner considering trade in for 2023 model - questions

A front camera would be cool. You know what'd be cooler? A telescopic camera that would extend a foot or so behind the bumper when shifting into reverse so I could see left and right when pulling out of a tight parking spot - especially if both vehicles next to me were trucks or other large...

The blind-spot camera, appearing on the screen(to the right of the driver) when making a left turn is counter-intuitive for me. I much prefer the warning indicator in the direction I am looking in. I know that these are all stepping stones to the ultimate vision(no pun intended) of doing...

Has anyone done wheel alignment at Tesla?

    2012 MS85. I chew through tires, lets's see - 5 sets, 120Kmiles 120/5 = 24K miles per set - give or take.
  42. Hank42

Has anyone done wheel alignment at Tesla?

I asked them.... They said it was all within spec. They did not give me a hardcopy from the machine, just on the invoice. I won't spend my alignment money there ever again, that's for sure - feel like I was taken. But that was 2 years and one car ago.
  43. Hank42

Has anyone done wheel alignment at Tesla?

I had my wheels aligned at Tesla. I don't think they did anything. Still had tire wear and felt no difference, except my wallet was a little lighter.
  44. Hank42

    Cyber Squat?

Cool. Yeah, with the deletion of the ramps, it would be useful if it could at least still squat.
  45. Hank42

$3k repair bill, is this legitimate?

I would not say the cost is REASONABLE. As others pointed out the labor RATES are what makes it unreasonable. It is about on par for a Tesla SC. $250 an hour for labor is insane.
  46. Hank42

    Cyber Squat?

I've read a bunch of things that were depicted in the initial reveal of the truck that have been since deleted, such as the built in bed ramps. Does that mean the ability to squat the rear is also gone?

Is it worth getting an M3P over the LR at basically the same price?

The end of year discounts on demo's are really good. I just took delivery of the same combo as you, except white interior ay my Kisco sc. It was a complete zoo with all the cars they were delivering that day - not thier brightest moment for sure. Anyway, For the savings, pick up a set of tires...
