"You are able to get into the March build..." - for real?

First Post. I ordered my Tesla this weekend, and the sales guy told me "we still can get you into the March build for end of March delivery", even though the website says orders right now are slated for May. Did I get fooled here in order to push me to make the order more quickly?

I just perused the Order/Delivery spreadsheet, and it looks like there is typically a 3 month timeframe or more from order to delivery. Should I get over my hopes of getting this bad boy for the spring?

I don't have an estimated date yet, and no call from the delivery specialist. I am not sure if that will happen Monday, or if they wait until the 7 day "change" period.

That depends on what you ordered.

If it's a P100D then it's doable.

If it's a plain 100D then be aware that the EPA website has not even listed such creature yet.

In theory, if everything goes so well then of course it's possible.

Otherwise, I can't rely on Tesla's timeline. You have to rely on lots of patience on your end

Congrats on your new Tesla. What did you order? It will be interesting to see if they can do so. They are currently processing Calif orders so who knows. We have a 75D being finished up. Also know there is a third shift now and saw today that people were being told their car went out of production today so sounds like round the clock work. Will also mention we ordered our car last day of the 4th quarter last year and took 54 days for it to go into production.

I live near the Fremont plant. I was also told this by sales, and ordered Feb 8th. I believe it's a lie. Shady sales tactic.

There are definitely examples in the past where the order to delivery time on Model S for some customers has been very fast.

For example, if you look at the spreadsheet for July-Sept. 2016 deliveries, Tesla was able to deliver by Sept. 30 cars with orders that were not confirmed until Sept. 14, 17 and 21. Model S Order & Delivery 2017. So Tesla has delivered on this sort of timetable in the past for some cars.

Thanks for the info... I guess I will just have to see. Good to know it is possible, but also bad to know that others were told this and it appears to be a sales tactic. I did in fact order a 100d, so that is concerning too if it isn't even a known car to the EPA. Hmmm....

A fast delivery is not always a good thing. My '2nd' car went from production to delivery under five days (to Texas). The open transport used messed up the windshield. The car clearly left the factory too fast for proper QC checks and in turn the paint was a mess. So Tesla is now building me a third car. I am in no rush for this one and they are shipping it in a closed container (aka train).

Be very careful when listening to Tesla sales staff, particularly when they tell you something you want to hear that is not on -- or that contradicts something on -- the order page.

Same story for me. Was told if I hurry, I can possibly get my Model S 100D by the end of March to make their quarterly sales numbers. Placed order 2/23. After reading through TMC, I hope they don't rush it and spend proper time doing QC on mine. But I think they will be churning out as many orders as they can regardless....

I am mostly concerned about the build... I will be picking it up directly from the factory in Fremont, so no transport involved. I would presume that if my car is built in a rush, that would apply for all the cars in my build (it is an assembly line afterall).

I did notice even the cars at the sales center had fit & polish issues, like trunks not adjusted properly, etc.

We're in the Bay area as well. We looked at it another way and are picking up ours at a local SC instead of the factory. Could have gone either way (and will do a factory tour later). Naturally there is the possibility of damage during transport; however we figure picking up at the SC will get another set of eyes on the minor issues in addition to what they do at the factory and they hopefully will adjust obvious things they see. Guess a lot depends on the SC and how busy they are. As much as we will want to drive it home right then and enjoy, ours will be going for wrap, etc.

You're in CA - they can simply push any external non-CA car out a bit to shoe-horn more deliveries into Q1 End of March. We've seen this for years where 3rd month-of-orders in California are built ahead of others' orders because they can surely be delivered in that quarter.

I order my P100D on 1/15/2017 and i was completed and ready for pickup in southern CA on 2/17. I would assume that if i had wanted to get it at the factory it would have been able to be picked up 4-5 days sooner.

So with it being the end of the quarter and a factory pickup, i think its possible, if the EPA thing is worked out

I got a note from the sales guy saying the EPA thing is not an issue, they are just slow to update their site.
Well gee, I hate to think others are getting pushed out to squeeze mine in here CA... well... ok, maybe I don't hate to think that. ;-) (sorry!)

Obsoletion.. Have you drag-raced your wife yet? I'd think she has the advantage weight-wise assuming both have Ludicrious!

Just thought I'd provide an update. Ordered the car in early March (around March 5/6), and I am picking it up on Sunday (March 24). I will be picking it up directly at the factory in Fremont.

100d midnight silver, 21" grey turbine, sunroof, black, prem upgrades, air susp, UHFS.

I will christen the car with a trip to L.A. on Thursday to get a REUS audio system installed. Can't wait!
Only real mistake was paying $2500 for UHFS only to have Cliff rip it out and replace most of it except the Sub -- which will get purposed as an additional low-midrange boost. That's not worth $2500, but I initially thought I'd be going with LHR, but got totally sold on the premium Reus system.

How many SC stops do you anticipate to drive down to LA? The midnight silver cars with gray wheels look really sharp. Let us know how the drive to LA is.

Pro tip: hit up Santa Ana, as Buena Park has fewer Superchargers and they get used up by sales staff and the service center.
EDIT: Unless it's during weekend mall primetime hours, then Buena Park might be better.
