Wheels to replace the 20" OEMs

What would you do if you were to replace the 20" sports with 19" wheels

  • Buy used 19" OEM sport wheels. Save couple of pounds for each corner for $1600-$1800

  • Buy 19" after market flow forged wheels (VMR710FF). Save 7lbs each corner, spend $1500+ tires

So here are some facts.
  • I want to go from the heavy, factory 20" stilettos to a 19" lighter and more comfortable wheels
  • I don't race or track my car
  • My P3D+ is lowered with UP moderate springs
I have a dilemma... Leaving the taste part of this question aside. Please only vote on weight vs. cost

VS forged aren't that light.

I got myself some signature wheels using this config

20x9 ET30 20.0lbs
20.10.5 ET40 21.1lbs

But they're $5k a set.......

Are you sure VS forged is going to save you 10lbs per wheel?

My titan 7's are only saving me about 6lbs per wheel vs OEM 20s.

I didn't see VS forged listing weights for their various styles.

I am actually ignoring the tire weights in this equation, which I shouldn’t. VS forged I am looking at is 20-21lbs. I am not going wider then 8.5” that might be a factor also. Not sure what your configuration is.

Why not the option of an 18”? Even Lighter, better ride, more tire options, tires will cost less? The only advantage a 19 will have over an 18 is subjective, that is styling.
The one catch with 18" rims is selection is relatively limited since they are going on a P+, and not all 18" rims will fit over the P+ calipers. Going up the price scale helps with that but you still have to watch carefully for the issue.

So that said I would go middle Or bottom choice in an 18”
If I actually could find an 18” that I like the looks off, I would do it. But the ratio of wheel to car is kinda off in my view with most 18” wheels.

Enkei 18” in our LR AWD. Under 20 lbs each.

Wait so these are 19" or 18"? Finally I see the gun metal titan-7 on the right color car :) I was tired of photoshopping cars to see how the wheels look...
I went with 19's but I hear 18's will fit P3D+ brakes. I think the tires are going to make the most difference as far as range. Also the PS4S tires I got don't have foam in them (not available in 19's, but I think they do make them for 18s ). They seem to like to pick up gravel and fling it into my wheel wells. Never had that issue with MXM4s.

The Tesla spec PS4S w/acoustic foam are indeed now available in 18". For over $40/tire more I didn't bother with them, though. I've, subjectively, found the PS4S sound close enough to the MXM4 that I don't regret that.

<edit> Interesting tidbit about the Tesla spec PS4S, Michelin lists them as TW 340 rather than TW 300 of the standard PS4S.

I've not noticed a difference, like I did notice with my 200 TW tires. Maybe I'm numb to it? Although my MXM4 did toss stones. I've only gotten rock chips in two places so far, the lower lip below the cooling intake and the rear of the rocker panel. The rocker panel chipped first and took it a LOT worse. So bad that when I got he vehicle wrapped I had them put a PPF layer on top of the wrap along the rocker panel.

I got the 19x8.5" VS Forged 06 wheels and they were just under 21 lbs according to my bathroom scale. The weight will vary a little between designs/models.

I think 19's have the best balance of looks, performance, and comfort.

I saved about 8lbs per corner with the change.
