Volkswagen Says No To Plug-In Hybrids In North America

I have mixed feelings on this, at least for the short-term. Since, if you want everyone to have a low-carbon vehicle, PHEVs are about the only good way to address the $25K-and-under market for the next few years (i.e. until battery costs become low enough to compete directly with ICE vehicles on price).

Unless you want to do short-range BEVs, which a very significant percentage of consumers will not buy. :(

Federal EV tax incentives can help, but we don't even know if those are going to survive in the GOP tax bill yet, and they run out after 200K EVs are produced per company in any case (and the US has approx 250 million cars and trucks on the road).
