But the receiver that has the chain loops is not directly connected to the vehicle either.Looks more convenient, but definitely not legal where I live (i.e. chains cannot legally be connected to the ball or receiver insert -- must be connected directly to vehicle or the receiver).
I’ll just shorten the chain. You can twist the chain to take up the slack (Is this even legal though)
Good point -- I forgot about that. But the receiver that has the chain loops is not directly connected to the vehicle either.
Sitting on 3 ball bearings
Some might, some might not.Just wondering, when you all are calling/contacting Tesla for the parts what are you specifically asking for? I noticed there are like 5 different parts on the receipt, can I just say I want a model x hitch and they'll know to include all that stuff automatically?
Can the original washers and nuts from the rear bumper reinforcing bar be reused for the model x hitch? Some might, some might not.
My invoice has one duplicate part number that was already included with the hitch.
Bare minimum you need the hitch and the adapter.
Nuts and washers were not really needed.
Carrying case for adapter is optional.
I reused mine. Can the original washers and nuts from the rear bumper reinforcing bar be reused for the model x hitch?
That’s what I did.Can the original washers and nuts from the rear bumper reinforcing bar be reused for the model x hitch?

Yes and no. It’s not an issue. It beeps to remind you the bikes are back there when you back up. And you will see it detected going forward with no alarm. For those just using the hitch for a bike rack, how's the experience been lately for you? I assume backing up still an issue with the sensors.
Thanks. While pulling forward, how does the detection look on the screen?Yes and no. It’s not an issue. It beeps to remind you the bikes are back there when you back up. And you will see it detected going forward with no alarm.
Same as my Model X did.
Same as when you see a guard rail close to the car.Thanks. While pulling forward, how does the detection look on the screen?
Great! I have a Thule Easyfold XT.. works great. I do have the backup sensor issues but I don’t mind it.For those just using the hitch for a bike rack, how's the experience been lately for you? I assume backing up still an issue with the sensors.
