Another supplier wants to lose their business.. I'm having hard time understanding this swedish way of doing business..
Sympathy strikes in the past have been successful. This time it seems like Tesla is not overly bothered by them. Tesla are agile and can quickly adapt, when older companies would have struggled and risked their entire business by the chaos created. The Unions are very upset about this, they say that Tesla ignoring their attempts is "threatening the Swedish model". Imo this shows that they know that their model is fragile and cannot stand on its own merits. They try to frame it as "there is only benefits to collective agreements" but the companies doing the sympathy strike losing business highlights that there is at least one clear negative to signing these agreements.

IF Metall: Members who do not strike must be excluded

November 15, 2023 - 08:28
Members of IF Metall who, despite the strike, continue to work at Tesla's workshops will be excluded.
- Strike-breaking is incompatible with the statutes, says Tomas With, vice chairman of IF Metall.
According to IF Metall, there are members of the union who still work at Tesla's workshops, even though the union has gone on strike. In a post on Facebook, IF Metall's chief legal officer Darko Davidovic writes that: "those members who do not respect their organization" will be "excluded from IF Metall".
Darko Davidovic tells Dagens Arbete that no decision has yet been made. But members who do not participate in the strike violate the union's bylaws.
- Then we have to act. We don't want that, but it's not sustainable, he says.
He himself has received information about members breaking the strike, but he has no idea how many there may be.
- We think it is troublesome that Tesla is bringing in strike breakers, which no one has done since the beginning of the 20th century. Then it won't be better if we also have members who work. Now I have understood that there are not that many, but the whole point of a conflict is that the work must stand still until an agreement has been signed, he says.
Any decisions on exclusion are made by IF Metall's union board, where Tomas With, vice chairman of the union, is one of the decision makers. He confirms that the association has now begun to map which members it may be about.
- We try to talk to each of them. We need to get a more accurate picture before we can make any decision. That work has begun this week. We'll see how long it takes, he says.
Tomas With does not want to speculate on how many of the union's members have not yet joined the strike.
- We need to get in touch with everyone it may be about so we have a basis that we can relate to, he says.
In the talks, the union representatives will inform about the statutes and all other issues related to the conflict. Primarily, the purpose of the talks is to get the members to join the strike.
- The primary aim is of course to get these people to see the situation and want to participate in the fight to get a collective agreement, he says.
If a member continues to go to work despite this, he will be expelled from the union.
- Yes, strike-breaking is incompatible with the statutes. It's not possible. Once we have information on what it looks like for each person, we can take a position on it then. But it is clear that you have both rights and obligations as a member. That's how it is, he says.
What is the duty of a union member in this situation?
- If the federal board has decided on a conflict, you have an obligation to participate in it. If you don't stand up for it, there is the ultimate possibility of exclusion, says Tomas With.

Does Hydro Extrusions think they’re the only supplier of that part to Tesla? That Tesla can’t simply call up the Chinese supplier that supplies GigaShanghai, or the supplier that supplies GigaAustin? Or bring the mfging in house that they have done time and time again over the years?

Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.

You know the supplier blacklist Tesla has is simply growing.

The building union has now joined.

Byggnads announces today sympathy measures in support of IF Metall's endeavor to sign a collective agreement with Tesla. The notice applies to all of Byggnad's collective agreement areas and means that future service work and construction in Tesla's service workshops will be blocked.
Johan Lindholm, union chairman Byggnads
For several years, Tesla has refused to sign a collective agreement with IF Metall, which ultimately forced IF Metall to go on strike. In connection with the ongoing conflict, IF Metall has requested sympathy measures from Byggnads.
- For Byggnads, it is obvious to support IF Metall in this matter. We can never accept that some companies consider themselves above the system that guarantees both the conditions of the employees and competitive neutrality between the companies. It's all very simple, in Sweden we operate with a collective agreement, says Johan Lindholm, union chairman Byggnads.
The sympathy measure covers the refusal to carry out service work, repair work, new construction and remodeling, which is carried out by companies bound by the HVAC & Cooling Technology Installation Agreement, the Building Agreement, the Construction Machine Agreement, the Glasmästeri Agreement or the Sheet Metal and Ventilation Agreement, for TM Sweden AB, Tesla's service workshops.
The sympathy measures apply from and including November 28, 2023, at 06:00 and until IF Metall and Tesla sign a collective agreement or Byggnads revokes the sympathy measure in whole or in part.

Am more concerned about this than any social media right now.

Anyone here have a good read on what happening? Wired has hated Tesla for a while. I don’t trust them.

How is this even allowed? The Tesla employees should be he ones deciding their fate. But we all know how that would go, so these tactics are the only option for these union clowns

Yeah, standard mafia tactics. "Nice car you got over there. It would be a shame if something happened to it...."

Good thing is Elon has the same low opinion of unions, and the megaballs to confront them, as did Thatcher and Reagan - in many ways the last two great leaders of the West.
