Tesla Motor tenth-best car brand.

My personal ranking would be:

1. Tesla.
2. Honda.
3. Toyota...

But for a car company that so far has sold exactly one car model, with two others announced but not yet available, tenth is darn good! FWIW, I gather that this is the results of CU's annual car survey, and not the results of their own ratings based on their testing. Thus it measures how satisfied people are with their cars, rather than the objective quality. I took the car survey, and it asked me about my cars, not about my perception of other cars. Thus this number-ten rating might be based solely on owners' opinions, rather than general public perception.

Edit. Now I see it was a phone survey, not the annual car survey that I took. So may be general public perception after all.

I hope Tesla is taking advantage of this in marketing materials.
As kgb pointed out, CU does not permit any of their material to be used in advertising. It's all part of their strictly-non-commercial policy. if they allowed it, there would be accusations that they were being paid for it. I believe they are fairly agressive against companies that quote them in advertising.

Hmmm, Since this was a phone pole and not a test of a Tesla Product I would wonder if there would be ground to say "A leading (or alt, "recent") consumer survey rated Tesla one of the top 10 car brands."

OR . . . "A leading consumer survey of the top ten automotive brands ranked Tesla next to Lexus on measures of quality, innovation, technology, safety, design, performance, and eco-friendliness." On the other hand, Tesla wouldn't want to infuriate CR if they want to be rated when the S comes out. I can't imagine that CR would skew the ratings, but they could simply elect not to review the car.

^ Or they could sue for using copyrighted proprietary information without permission. Legitimate companies (which Tesla is) respect CU's policy that their information not be used in advertising.

In any case, since this is a poll, not test data, it's purely subjective and though it's interesting to us to see good public perception, it's pretty much worthless as a selling point for the car.
