Tesla Model 3 in Australia

I probably feel a bit like you. I would never go as far as saying that I can actually "afford" a Model 3.

Just a little Dr Cooper type "fun fact" in this context:

I read some time ago that I think it was 88% of Model S drivers own their own houses, while only around 55% of Model 3 drivers do.

Given the still not insignificant cost of a Model 3, the implication is that some Model 3 owner prioritise EV ownership above owning a roof above their heads.

So you are not alone when you note that you have "different priorities"... and I too squirm when other people find out how much the Model 3 is (most recently my mother, after I had managed to keep it quiet from her for the last 3.5 years...).

So...I'm in the 45% that don't!

We have a neighbour who was probably more excited than me at some point when she found out we're getting a model 3. Her poor hubby copped a bit of it when I mentioned how much the SR+ is as he very recently bought a Merc A-Class. Now they're both looking forward to going for a drive so much they keep mentioning it every time we see them.

Anyone had any luck asking if they can pay with credit card?
Wouldn't mind getting some points off such a large purchase.

Very little luck getting through to sales number in the past few days.
Left a message with no call back after two days.
There was a guy who was organising to pay with his Amex, although there was a 1.5% fee for this, so it can be done.

Seriously jaymo89?!?

I get a bit upset reading your post.

There has been an inordinate amount of discussion about credit card payments on this Forum, so you could do a bit of homework instead of wasting Tesla staff time having to answer inane questions.

I suspect they will not answer your call at all, but even just having to listen to your voice mail prevents them from doing more productive work.

I have just been advised of a 4628xx NZ invoice - 31 July build. It is a Brotonne range. It went on ANL Warrnambool. It arrived this week in Auckland, and he already has his invoice - quick. So that proves there is some late production on Brotonne ranges. The production just missed it. I would now expect others to move back as well now we know of a July 31 build date, as we normally see more than 1 range on a build day.

That guy was me :)

In my experience, the sales people do not really know much about paying the final payment with credit card. They told me the surcharge rate was 2.5% and you need to pay in the store before your delivery date (i.e., visit the store twice).

It is completely wrong.

The delivery specialist gave me more accurate information.

Here is a short summary:
  • Different credit card has different surcharge rate. For AMEX, it is 1.5%.
  • You can pay the final payment with your physical credit card on delivery (i.e., visit the store once)
  • Paying with credit card won't slow down or delay your delivery
I did pay the final payment with my AMEX card last Friday and thus I can confirm the rate is 1.5%.

If anyone's interested in the regional delivery process I just had a call from Tesla employee who confirmed next weeks delivery day and mentioned the car goes via Tesla Sydney for a final check before loading on a truck. I'll get a further update once the truck is on the road and has a firm ETA to my location so I know when to be home.

Great way to end the week! It's beer o-clock now. :)

I have been thinking, we all now have posted info on orders, have seen a real invoice and bank details etc, it would be somewhat trivial for a scammer to lookup usernames and get emails (from other hacked sites if anyone shares a username.)

If you receive an invoice please check where it came from etc. Tesla doesn't use DKIM on their emails, has no enforcing dmarc but does have SPF.

We know that the BSB for AU are all the same, can someone post the BSB so we can cross check to ensure its the same ?

for someone to fake an email/invoice with fake bank details and easily get transferred 100k from a keen mode 3 buyer wouldn't be that difficult. I have seen similar things many times in my day job.

Just a PSA, please be really careful and double check before paying that its really a tesla invoice in the email. I assume it will show up on the account page soon anyway so we could verify it ?

Woohoo...another white interior...Whereabouts are you @meowsers ? What colour/model? I'm blue P+

Red P+ / white. ACT. Had a call a few weeks back to confirm the final delivery details, but they said they would call again within a couple weeks and get me an invoice. No promise of delivery date but they did say second half of september. I'm not holding out that much hope. But Rob's 26th date does give me some.

The people on the ground here in Oz are doing really good work, just wish the corporate folk in the US would give them all the support they might need to avoid pulling their hair out.

Agree with you on that last part. I think people are getting frustrated because of the lack of info rather than the actual process. I think even if they rang people and told them delivery would be 6 weeks after they were expecting they would be understanding for the most part.

I wasn't expecting delivery till November. I haven't had any calls whatsoever. The hidden VIN popped up 3 days ago so it will be interesting to see what happens.

How did it drive? Have you driven other Teslas for a comparison?
I'm thinking about getting one, but still like my Model S.

Very nice. I also test drove the Performance model. Haven’t driven S or X.
The regen is pretty natural for the driver, but my wife found it disconcerting as a passenger with the car slowing as soon as I took my foot off the accelerator and then putting my foot back on the accelerator with the acceleration.
As a driver I knew what the car was doing so had no issue with it. Changing the regen option fixed that.

Did I like it? Yes. I put my order to in for one.

I see on the web page source that my birthdate is wrong. But it doesn't show anywhere else unhidden. Should I call to correct? Does it even matter? I have a hidden VIN, but no "The Call'.
Just send a message from the ‘Request a change’ on your ‘Manage’ page, worked for me... although it may have been a fix the implemented. Not sure as I didn’t get any response, just noticed the hidden data became correct.
