OT: When will they put in the CCS chargers in Strangeville and Kamiah? I saw no evidence of any work this weekend.
Super 8 has a Tesla plug. I have one at my home a block away in Grangeville…slow but an option if you need it.
Several discussions at city meetings have not approved Superchargers yet.
Only four Teslas in Idaho county when i registered mine in 2020.

I am aware of the chargers that the good folks at the Super 8 make available. And thanks for your offer as well!

Public DC chargers are approved and funded in Kamiah, Grangeville and my town as well. It's a shame they are being held up. Possibly the good side will be that by the time they are approved, they will be NACS.

Hi all. I never go through here but will be going from Nampa south to Winemucca…. Will I get stuck as it seems this supercharger bank won’t be open by July 6 when I go through… or will I be OK at the shell recharge stations?

I wish this was open for the holiday weekend!

This all depends. Those existing stations only have CHAdeMO and CCS plugs. Do you have an adapter for either of those plug types, and is your car CCS enabled?
Yes it’s a new model 3 RWD and I have every adaptor and charger made. Including a TT30! I guess I’ll stop at the shell recharge station.

Tesla supercharger map still says Q2 on this site. Could it actually be operational by Friday?

OK, then yep, it should probably work, although I would not expect it to work on the first try. That station has been difficult. So you may have to try one cable or the other, one station or the other, go through a couple of credit card read failures, app activation communication errors, etc. etc.

Probably not.

Also does anyone know if the say when casino is open or closed and do their level 2 chargers work?
The casino I think is open, but they shut off access to their level 2 chargers on the back of the building quite a while ago--don't know why. Backup option is that there is another Shell Recharge station farther South in Orovada.

I would just add, download the Shell Recharge App and complete the account initiation before you leave Idaho. That way you don't have to deal with it in the charger parking lot.

You’ll be fine as long as you download the Shell Recharge app and create a login profile before leaving for your road-trip. Cell service in McDermitt (Option #1) is poor. I can’t remember for sure, but I believe cell service is also poor in Orovada, NV (Option #2) at the second Shell Recharge station. I agree—it would be nice if the SC in McDermitt will be up-and-running by July 6th, but it doesn’t sound likely.

ATTACHED are screenshots of my recent charges in McDermitt…

Be sure to use Connector 2 (Station ID: 52318). The other charging station (there are two) wasn’t working when I passed through 5wks ago.

Good luck!

FYI both stations worked when we were there on June 8th. We used the left-hand station while a Rivian pickup used the right-hand one. The QR code on the left-hand station works for both (there wasn't one on the right).

Best

Thank you all. I’m looking forward to this. Quick question, I’m assuming going north to south (toward Winnemucca) you lose more range from going up in elevation… is that right?
Yes. I would count on it.

Interestingly, the range at arrival estimate the car had during our trip varied mightily. It went up at first and then dropped by 19 percent as we drove. Stayed at the speed limit uniI saw it falling off a cliff, then I slowed down to be sure. It wasn't a problem, but it reinforced how far off that it can be. There's no cell service for a significant portion of the trip, and maybe that's why the estimate wasn't accurate.

Not sure about that. What I can tell you is that it is 254mi from my home to the SC in Winnemucca, and I could not make it there without charging at the end of March. It was obviously colder then. Even when I went back through at the end of May, I was unable to make it the full way, as I had to stop and charge for a bit in McDermitt. I drive a 2023 Model Y (LR/AWD).

I feel even more amazed at actually meeting the legend who did that entire drive in an old Model S P85. Arrived with 9 rated miles showing. They did have to charge a bit doing it in the uphill direction though.
