After a visit to car wash for cleaning discovered the black finish peeling off the drivers door switch panel.
After a little research it seems to be a common problem. I ordered a new one from Amazon (also fits Mercedes).
Removed the door panel and replaced the switch panel. Total time, 1/2 hour and $20.
