Perforated plate on back deck

Anyone know why the Model 3 has a perforated metal plate on the back deck that opens into the trunk?

I am wondering if blocking it off could reduce the noise level in the cabin.

Don't know if this is the reason, but it will provide conditioned air to the trunk area.

Many sedans have these. Probable purposes:

- exit vent for the cabin HVAC
- pressure relief to make closing the trunk lid and/or car doors easier
- air duct for the subwoofer in the trunk

Yup, it's fur the sub'.
Blocking it might help to diminish road noise somewhat, but it would also significantly reduce bass response.

Yeah, that's probably part of it. But I think the primary function is exit vent for the cabin air. Some other cars have vents in the C pillar or somewhere around the rear seats, but I haven't found any on the Model 3. There must be some way tfor the air that is sucked in by the A/C fans to escape (otherwise the glass roof would pop out from the pressure at some point ). My previous car (a BMW) had a similar vent.

Oh, and there are also two speakers under the grill on both sides of the opening to the trunk.
