Hey everyone, kind of an odd question, or maybe not! Sorry for the length.....bear with me here.
My wife and I live in Maine. I'm taking delivery of my X100D in late June in Oregon. Due to work/scheduling issues, my wife and I are then flying back out on July 7 and driving it back home to Maine as part of a road trip vacation over the next 3 weeks. True coast to coast, and a total of about 35+ days without permanent registration.
I found on the Oregon BMVs site that they issue up to 2 temporary "trip permits" good for 21 days each, but I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with this. Will they issue 2 at once, so I can use them back to back? Since they last for 21 days, and the first one will run out half way home, I would need to make sure they can be used back to back. My home state of Maine only offers 10 day permits, so that's not an option. Anyone ever crossed into Canada with a temporary registration, did they give you any hassle?
My DS has been awesome about it so far and is, but I thought I'd ask to see if anyone had some insight. I'm one of those OCD people that likes to have all my bases covered so there are no surprises along the way.
My other option, and one that is looking more likely, is just taking delivery a bit sooner, and registering at home before we even go on the trip. In this case I'm assuming I can get all the paperwork and plates in time for the trip....I don't think this will be a problem, but weird things happen. In the event that I couldn't get the plates in time, I'd have to fall back to the temp Oregon reg option above.
Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks in advance for the help!
