Officially part of the Model S family! (and tips for those who are looking at CPO/USED models)

First, a big thank you to all the contributors in this forum. I have been lurking a good while as I was deciding.

The forums helped a lot in understanding a lot of my questions and concerns.

For all those on the fence about a Model S - go for it!

I got a used/CPO 2015 Model S 85 last Friday. It had some good options that included Autopilot with convenience features, High Fidelity Sound, Black Alcantara headliners, next gen seats, and premium interior and lighting.

I had the choice between a new Model 3 with AP2 ($50,000 + tax/fees - Tax credits) or this low mileage S for $42,000. Almost the same pricepoints.

Test drove both and both are great cars. The S won for the following reasons - (a) Storage space. Hatchbacks are great for carrying c-stands/pelican cases when we have a shoot. (b) Aesthetics. This is subjective, but I just love the look of the S. (c) Second screen. It feels more intuitive.

The biggest positive for the 3 was AP2. While it is nice and has the option for FSD someday, the way I see it, when it comes out, it will be time for a new Tesla anyway.

After 1 weekend, I put about 200 miles on the car. Between driving in DTLA traffic and taking it our for a fall surfing session in El Porto and cruising in Long Beach, it has been quite the experience.

I have been averaging a decent 285wh/mile - which I think is not the best, but right in the middle of the pack from what I am reading.

As far as buying experience - it was top notch! Easiest car I have ever bought.

1st email gets your questions answered and a dropbox/google drive of car pictures. Second email is to confirm deposit. A second tesla rep from financing then contacts you. Once this is done, a third Tesla rep emails you about delivery details. Worry free and hassle free. All documents submitted through your my tesla account (including trade-in!).

I do have some questions from the community experts:

1. Any luck using the tesla paint repair kit (mine had a scrape or 2)? I have seen some online reviews, but none that are too positive. Any tips/tricks?
2. Looking at either the Tesla all weather floor mats or an amazon third party (3Dmax spider -well reviewed and recommended here). Any drawbacks to either?
3. Leather care - The next gen seats are nice! I would like to protect them - do I go the standard leather cleaning/conditioning or invest in a seat cover?

Thanks all! Excited to be part of the community!

Man, good for you. My CPO purchase experience could not have been more different. I just bought a 2016 S P90DL with 22K miles. The whole experience screamed, "You're lucky that we are allowing you to buy one of our cars."

I'm trusting that the ownership experience will be better than the buying experience because I've wanted a Tesla for more than 10 years and can finally get one.

Congratulations! Awesome price! Was there anything wrong with the body? How many miles does your have? 2) - I spent hours last night researching mats online and ordered 3Dmax spider even though Tesla OEM were finally in stock yesterday.

Man! Sorry to hear that. Reading the comments here, it seems like a hit or miss. Hopefully you love the car for years to come! (3 days in to ownership, I feel like I would!)

I see that brand too. Only $20 cheaper than the Tesla OEM, but looks good with great reviews! Might jump on it too. Let us know how it is when you get them!

About the S, yes. There were 2 cosmetic defects in the body (1 on passenger side front bumper, 1 by passenger rear door). Nothing major that can't be fixed via the paint kit. Not noticeable from afar, but defintely can be seen up close. Aside from that, 2 rims have some curb rash and the next gen seats had normal wear (looked good!) This was actually my second choice. I put the $2500 deposit on a different car (same everything except with glass roof, cleaner body, but had 70,000 miles for only 2k cheaper). This came to the site the next day and called my sales advisor to transfer to this car. The cosmetic dings for me were more minor than 50k more miles for the same year car.

without the photo, I don't trust this :p

j/k

Congrat! I'm so happy for you:)

Haha! I'm still pinching myself that I'm part of the Tesla family now. and I did post a picture ;)

To be really honest though, I think I did get a car that most people will back out of due to cosmetics.
I'm always more concerned about longevity and lower use (cosmetic damages are part of cars and are the most easily fixed).

In the below, you see a close up of the cosmetic damage (rim and passenger side front bumper). Looks bad up close, but barely noticeable from afar (see other pic).

I can live with it given that the rest of the car is in pristine condition! :D

Conrats on the purchase! I'm waiting on my used 2015 Model S 70. I ordered it a week ago and still waiting on the transfer to the local delivery center. The process has been a little frustrating, not sure why it takes a week for it get moved a few miles and I'm having to follow up with the "Delivery Specialist" to get updates. I guess they don't get paid by commission because they are so slow to respond and not in a hurry to off load their inventory. I was so excited to get my first Tesla but this waiting and not knowing is putting a big damper on the whole experience : (

I just got my Tesla all weather mats and to my surprise they are made by Weather tech. The only difference between both is the branding on the mats and the Tesla branded are $60 more .I ended up finding a amazon seller selling official Tesla all season mats for half the price. And to even more of my surprise they got shipped to me directly from Tesla.

Good luck! Did you ever get your Tesla?

I had the opposite experience - my SA and DS was fast to respond - usually within 24-48 hours.

Hope you are now driving your Model S!

Very nice! I love the color! My dad just purchased a Model 3 and he brought it over for me (huge car guy) to check out and I was very impressed. I was so impressed that I now want one!
You should definitely test drive both. We took the 3, S, and X for a spin and found all 3 were wonderful cars!

3 had the positive side of AP2 and nice (cool looking) vents going for it.

X had the coolest windshield + Falcon Wing Door going for it.

But the S just hits most of the needs - at least 5 seats, storage space for Pelican cases/c-stands, and at least AP1.

You can't go wrong either way though!

Nice! Mine just came with the regular carpeting. Might spring for the Tesla one's from the factory website, but a lot of people on here swear by the 3DMax Spiders so I am looking at that as well.
