Whelp, I finally bit the bullet and ordered a Model 3 Performance. I mistakenly ordered the Black paint before realizing that it prices me out of the tax credit. 
I had an EDD of 4 April-2 May, but found a Deep Blue one in inventory. I confirmed the change to that one and instantly had a VIN and EDD of 25-31 March.
Not very thrilled about the blue paint, but it allowed me to keep the tax credit and have delivery in the next 2 weeks.
Looking forward to engaging and learning from the community going forward.
