New (Republican) Minnesota House energy chief drives a Tesla

*cough*

The leanings of the *grassroots* (50/50 party split among Tesla or Leaf buyers, probably similar among those who put solar panels on their houses) do not seem to reflect the attitudes of the *elected officials* (where there are very, very clear partisan splits). This is true on a lot of issues.

There are several possible conclusions from this. You could conclude that most elected officials in a party are not representing their own grassroots. You could conclude that the grassroots is not properly vetting the candidates before voting for them. You could conclude that big money interests are inducing certain elected officials to disagree with their constituents. Far be it from me to make a conclusion for you, but I would recommend that everyone examine their candidates carefully before voting for them -- and keep an eye on the primaries, too.

It's nice to see that Garofalo is not toeing the party line on electric cars, though his statements about solar and energy production in general are a bit eye-rolling and sound regurgitated from non-renewable-energy-industry propaganda. (Capturing carbon dioxide from smokestacks while generating net energy from burning carbon is pure fantasy material which violates principles of physics.) Maybe he's open to being educated about the real situation with solar.
