Wow. Tesla outsells every other brand in the premium/luxuy sedan segment. Nice detail: Sharp decline for the Panamera. Tear drop: This ICE segment still grew in volume by 5%. So Tesla managed to secure the biggest piece of a still growing pie. I want to point out that we are still in a period where Model S is production limited.

This is the point that some people do not get. Other car manufacturers make the car, put it on the lot and then people buy it. With Tesla (other than a few loaners) the cars are sold then made. People look at the "sales" of the Model S and equate that to being the same as demand. As long as there is a waiting list then the demand is always more than the sales. That is the problem with Tesla, the reservation numbers are not visible any more so we do not actually know what the demand is.

Mercedes Benz(CLS & S Class combined) and BMW ( 6 & 7 Series combined) sell more full size four door cars than Tesla in the USA.

But as we all know that is demand for the German brands while for Tesla it is what Tesla chose to deliver in the USA out of the maximum 22,450 units it was able to build given the batteries Panasonic was able to deliver.

In 2014 Tesla should overtake MB and BMW in the full size four door luxury category and may sell more units than Volvo and Mitsubishi in the USA.

I know some of the German brands also try to have a "build to order" system for some models - especially in the luxury class. Then again, the most significant point of the stats is as follows: Two years ago Tesla was a 0. Last year it was in the "hundreds". This year they surpassed a number established brands. And with a (more) fully developed Supercharger system/resolved supply chain challenges, I'm sure that next year will be a huge year for Tesla.
