a single phase charger for 70A 240V is much bulkier then 3 phase charger with 32A because you need more inductive and capacitive elements to smooth the current on the DC side. The best solution for tesla were to use 3 smaller charger instead a big one.
Is one 70A capacitor really bigger than three 32A capacitors? Seems to me like 3 smaller chargers would actually take more physical volume than a single large charger.

first you have to rectify the current instead 4 diods for 70A you need 6 diods for 32A. After that you have sinuswave DC needed to be smoothed by caps and coils for a near ripplefree DC to charge the batterie. with 3phase AC and 120degree phaseshift the outcome already has less ripple which need less caps and coils to be smooth. nowadays instead of diods IGBT os Mosfects are used but the methode is the same
