Broke the steering axle of my M3P hitting a curb that was hard to see due to the sun

Unfortunately I hit the curb in an extremely bad angle and broke the steering axle. In my defence, it was nearly impossible to see:

Had to be towed as the car did not drive anymore (obviously, after a broken axle)..

Currently waiting on a quote for repairs.

well the only positive thing in this unfortunate accident is -- that you are safe --- we have insurance so the car will be repaired , but your health and safety is priceless...

Those designs are pretty common in California (and probably the rest of the U.S.) ... lots of tire marks on them too.

What actually broke? Control arm? At first I thought a hit like that would just break a tie rod but it looks like your wheel is moved back into the car. That's normally a control arm.

The placement of that curb is BS. The dotted line already started before the curb and continued past it. I don't see why the curb needed to be that fat right there. Along with the shadow, anyone could have done that. Man, that suck. I feel for you.

[EDIT] Honestly, I would complain to the city's road engineers and send them this video. No, it won't have any material impact on your situation but it might make them take out some of that island.

Ouch. Like above, I'd contact the roads dept. They need to paint that curb or remove it.

The dotted line gives the impression that there should be driveable space where the curb you hit is located. What an awful design!

As others have said, road design is terrible and the dotted lanes makes it very misleading with the curb. Would this be possible to sue the city/state for bad road conditions?

I had to watch it at least 3 times to see that curb. That is a needlessly poor design.
